Did really old LampLinc wall warts also have issues?

Featured Replies

I have over 100 insteon devices, mostly all in the last 10 years and dual band. Everyhting is very reliable,

Except for this one wallwart lamplinc we setup for a changing table. It's from my first Insteon setup in an apartment. It responds to the remote in the room and whole house schemes, but the IOX almost always says it's unable to communicate. I messed around with old access points and nothing appears to really resolve issues with it. I know this is not a dual band device,

I don't have any other lamp lincs and was trying to avoid as this is a only for a few years things but it bugs me.

This device is probably 15 years old, is it just dead? Did those devices have bad caps like the PLMs did? (my PLM from that erra that I moved from Mr. House to ISY also failed still have it, never re-capped). More curious, I can solder so would be willing to sacrifice it.

I have 2 of these, used this time of year for Christmas lights which they do fine. They are single band so their location closer to our electrical panel is helpful.

If you're using them with a remote, the signal trip is from the closest dualband device and then powerline from there to the old lamplinc.

they can be used like my example where you can be sure of how signals will reach it, unlike dual band devices that can go almost anywhere.

Also note that Insteon things that old can use a factory reset and restore device every so oftern

The 2456D LampLinc is power line only and the command has to get from the PLM connected to the ISY controller to the LampLinc by power line. Did you try a dual band module plugged into the pass through outlet on its front as a test? Could it be failing maybe. I will check one of mine. I kind of a power supply capacitor that was an issue.

Now as for the Access Point. Check the sticker on the back If it is an revision 2.0 or above They are built on the base 2413 PLM main board and have the same failing capacitors as the 2413 PLM has.
