Illusion Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I use the Edge network quite a bit. Mobilinc still does not play super nice with this slower connection. I think a refresh button on the home page and maybe the favorites page would cure some of my issues. Sometimes Mobilinc complains about network time-outs or such and the status of my favorites remain as they were last time I looked at them. Because this version of Mobilinc (2.16.00) remains in stasis (multi-tasking) exiting and re-entering the program does not help. I am forced to exit the program and excise it from multi-tasking and then re-launch it. A cumbersome process that I believe could be eliminated by a "Query" button on a main page that would force a refresh of all info.
InsteonNut Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Hi Illusion, Thanks for the feedback. I'll see what I should do here to better communicate the status of the realtime connection and allow the user to reconnect when it fails to connect the first time. While it is true that MobiLinc is now iOS 4 compatible with keeping state, if you tap the iPhone home button to exit and then launch MobiLinc again, each time you start MobiLinc, MobiLinc will attempt to connect and get status. Do you have luck on EDGE if you quit and relaunch if it fails? Wes
Illusion Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 If I remember correctly, I think I was having to force close Mobilinc to get it to refresh. Or maybe I just am not a patient enough person. But without any status indicator, or progress indicator, I often find myself sitting on my favorites screen waiting for the statuses to update to what I know they are at the time. When that does not happen for a minute I have found the best thing is to go to the 'multi-task' bar and shut down Mobilinc. This usually resolves any issue, but is a pain. So much so that I have taken to using 3g primarily because of Mobilinc even though my voice calls suffer in my area as a result. Further, battery life is substantially reduced.
InsteonNut Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Did you ever receive any connection errors? IF MobiLinc can't connect over EDGE after 45 seconds it will push a pop-up to the screen, otherwise it's working on connecting and receiving data. Next time that happens, see if a connection error occurs due to a timeout and then close and restart MobiLinc using the single tap home button to minimize MobiLinc and restart. I will also add this to my feature request list so that I can determine the best path forward to communicate these connection issues. Wes
Illusion Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 Maybe Edge is just too slow? Tested yesterday. Looked at status of a program. Status showed 'Running Then' even though that was from last time I had Mobilinc open. I know for a fact at this point is should be showing 'True'. Waited 2 minutes. No error message, no update to incorrect current program status. Closed (minimized) Mobilinc using the single press of the home button. Opened Mobilinc back up, navigated to said program. Still showing incorrect status. Waited several minutes. No error message, no update to status. Closed (minimized) Mobilinc using the single press of the home button. Opened multi-tasking bar. Forced Mobilinc closed using the - key. Opened Mobilinc back up, navigated to said program. Now shows no status. Waited 45s. Status updates to reflect 'True' as it should be.
InsteonNut Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Hi Illusion, I just saw the top of your origional post that you are running 2.16.00. The current version is 2.17.00. 17 fixed several issues with the programs. Please try the upgrade and let me know if 2.17.00 works any better/different. Wes
Illusion Posted October 1, 2010 Author Posted October 1, 2010 Oh, sorry Wes. I saw the new version shortly after that post. I have been running .17 I for the past couple of weeks. I think I downloaded it that very night after posting.
RatRanch Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hi Wes, I'm also running 2.17 and experience the same refresh issues on Edge that Illusion reported. I routinely take the extra step of killing the app from multitasking in order to get a "reliable" status at launch. Also, one other feature request. It would be nice if there was an option to play a sound or vibrate whenever a button click is recognized. Cheers, -Jim
InsteonNut Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Hi Illusion and Jim, Thanks for the feedback. I'm in the middle of refactoring my code base to make it expandable with my MobiLinc iPad implementation. One of the activities I'm going through is rewriting the communication layer with the ISY. Before I release I will test EDGE and make sure that I can get a reliable refresh with the new code base. Jim, Are you looking for this feedback on all button presses (naviagtion, thermostat, on/off/dim) or just a particular subset? Wes
RatRanch Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Jim, Are you looking for this feedback on all button presses (naviagtion, thermostat, on/off/dim) or just a particular subset? Wes - I'd mainly like to have feedback confirming button presses on the Favorites panel.
mitch236 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I have been using 2.17 and would love a refresh button. Most of the time the program does refresh when I open it but at least once a week, I have to restart my phone just to get Mobilinc to work properly.
InsteonNut Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Hi Mitch, Will do. I'll add this into the next release. Wes
Illusion Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Hey Wes, I do not know if screen real estate is an issue, but I just got the new version of the eBay app, and they have done something really nice with their refresh button. They have removed it all together. Now for a refresh you pull down and release. So when you are at the top of a screen, you try to scroll even higher and a refresh bar comes down. It seems to work really well as a UI and it does not take up any screen space. Just a thought.
InsteonNut Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hi Illusion, The Facebook app does the same thing, and I like the effect of it. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll have to see what I can do to mimic that same feature as this would be a nice way to force a refresh to occur without impacting screen real-estate. Wes
