Venstar T1800 v2 not linking with ISY99i ver 2.8.4

I just installed a new Venstar T1800 with Insteon adapter. I tested heat/cool from t-stat and that works properly. I also upgraded my ISY99i from ver 2.7.15 to 2.8.4. All my devices seem to work and report properly. There are 106 links in my PLM table.

 

Following the WIKI instructions, I turned the t-stat OFF and tried to link it. But nothing happened. I also noticed that when I press the set button, the indicator flashes but indicators on my Access points or PLM do not flash. Is this a communication problem?

 

I tried to manually link the device but the Event Code shows it failed and was not added. Is there a way to test the adapter on the t-stat?

can you temporarily relocate one access point...nearest the thermostat?

Both APs were already within 18 feet of the t-stat, so I don't think that is the issue. Moving one AP did not help. Pressing the set button on the t-stat adapter will make the indicator led on the adapter flash. But there is no activity indicated on the AP, even when located in an outlet just across the hallway (e.g. 4 feet).

Is it possible to test the adapter by linking it to some other Insteon device? For example, could I check a signal with a RemoteLinc 2440 I have?

Thanks for your response. Following those instructions, I was able to link a button to the furnace fan and now I can turn the fan on and off (auto) from my RemoteLinc. So it appears the adapter is working to some degree.

 

However, the process for linking that device is different than linking to my ISY. It's my understanding that for this to work, holding the set button on the t-stat should register (flash) with an Access Point. I see the flash when I use the RemoteLinc. But the adapter set button does not register and I still can't link to the ISY.

Thanks so much for your post. Moving the AP allowed me to link the t-stat with my ISY!

 

Unfortunately, moving my AP back to it's 'home' created communication issues with the t-stat. I found I could control the functions on the t-stat, but error messages from my ISY interface would pop up. I could leave the AP in the PLM but I don't know if by doing so, I'm chopping off one electrical branch in the house or effecting communications with other Insteon devices located in 3 separate buildings at my site.

 

Would you suggest leaving the AP in the PLM and monitor communication with other devices? I would assume if there are none, I could just leave it plugged into the PLM. (If there are issues, well I guess I'll cross that bridge if I get there.)

 

BTW: This could be a separate post, but the t-stat icons on the ISY interface are the same as those for a SwitchLinc paddle switch. I would suggest UD use different icons. Perhaps a thermometer, red for heat, blue for cool, fan blades for fan. This link shows some samples:

The solution suggests that there are some comm issues between the current placement of the APs and the PLM.

 

I would suggest leaving the AP in the PLM. Use the AP setup to be sure the other AP is on the other power leg and place it where it is near most of your other devices.

 

If you do still have comm issues it might be best to add a third AP.
