G W Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Hmmm....a Mega Tree. I have a 75' ham radio tower in the back yard which is visible for miles. (I have pre-installed a pulley system on it...) The Mega Tree is the PERFECT Christmas Project. Joe Dang, yet another reason to by a Rohn 25G tower.

G W Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Gary: Rohn 25G it is.. Here's a picture: http://www.swodxa.com/n1zp.htm Joe Very nice. Back in 1978 I put up two 50 foot towers for my father (k5div) and built him a 2-meter array consisting of 4 antennas. Talk about a huge foot print. I ended up having to use two thrust bearings just to keep the weight of the rotor. It was fun putting all the stuff together and watching him use it. He loved moon-bounce. Okay, I just ordered a Light-0-Rama CTB16PC Kit and software package. Now I just need to get all the parts to build a 12 foot tree.
G W Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 ... Light Show Master ... of the same speed as pro lighting stuff used for TV and Theater. The Insteon network is not built for this kind of speed so you will not get the quickness from it. I'm a little confused here. First you say LSM is fast, then you say Insteon is not fast. Since LSM talks to Insteon, how can LSM be fast? Now I use LSM with seven LampLincs and I do get very good results and at this point I am happy with it. I will be using LSM when and where I feel it will work the best but I'm not sure how much more I will put into buying LampLincs just for it.
MikeB Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I never used the previous LSM, but my understanding is that it's a lot slower than the version out there now. The previous LSM required a PLC, which works with the softwware layer "SDM" provided by SmartHome. LSM talked to the SDM, which in turn sent commands to the PLC. Now that LSM talks directly to the PLM, performance is much quicker. By default it uses a hop count of 0 for all commands, so performance is quicker (at the expense of reliability if you have communication issues between the PLM and devices). LSM also does not use clean up for scene commands.
MikeB Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 As for the cost of LampLincs and ApplianceLincs, yeah it can definitely add up. But I don't mind spending the cash because I know I have the versatility to use them for a variety of things down the road (indoor decorations, outdoor decorations, lamps, etc...). Of course, I'm using about 12 - not 50! Also remember if you have 2 lights you want to turn on simulatenously, as long as the load is within limits you can use a single LampLinc to control both as opposed to using 2 LampLincs and creating a scene.
Mark Sanctuary Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 I am at it again with another year of my crazy Christmas show, I have added more lights and another controller. I will have to upload the photos when I get a good evening to take some.
MikeB Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Please do! Cold weather stops me from doing much for xmas (I hate the cold), and a torn ACL and miniscus this year doesn't help much either! But I love seeing what others are doing.
