Is it possible to have an 8 button KPL with button 7 set to toggle off and yet still show the status (in other words, light up) when the linked light is turned on?

Depends on the firmware level of the KPL (I do not know the exact firmware level where it changed).

 

Older KPLs used the On/Off state of the LED to control whether the button press resulted in non-toggle On mode or non-toggle Off mode. Later KPLs maintain the non-toggle mode state in internal memory which is not affected by whether the LED is On or not.

 

If you have newer KPLs it will likely work.

I do this. I have a KPL button set to non-toggle off, but make it a responder in a scene with another device who's status I want to know. It turns on and off, based on the status of the other device.

 

I assume, based on LeeG's response, that mine is a newer KPL.

I had just replaced this KPL with V.36 because thr older one could not do this.

After about an hour, the new KPL started responding as I expected.
