Scene Test Failures

Featured Replies

Posted

I originally posted this in a different thread, but it was a little off topic, so I am reposting. I have several scenes that when I run a scene test a significant number of devices fail. I disable all of my programs before running the scene test. If I run the scene test five times in a row, different devices fail each time.

What are my best means of troubleshooting? I have an X-10 meter (which I know is not necessarily the same for Insteon), but when I originally set up my house, I was able to use that to detect noise on the lines generated from my PCs.

All but two of my 40+ devices are dimmers/switches/keypads, so it is not necessarily easy to just disconnect them.

Any suggestions as a starting point?

With no regard to anything specific to your installation there are a set of things to consider in all cases.

ISY PLM plugged into a surge suppressing power strip.

PC/UPS power supplies attenuating the Insteon signals at the source (ISY PLM). Test for this is to change the plug point of the PLM with an extension cord.

Noisy appliances. Unplug (not turn Off) as many as can be.

CFLs, LEDs, fluorescence’s can create interference. Insure none are On.

Wired Insteon devices can be easily isolated by pulling the air gap switch. This removes the device and any associated load from the powerline.
