Browser support

I have been looking over the ISY-26 and tried to view the demo page from universal-devices.com.

I noticed in the setup for the ISY-26 that the browser they mention is Internet Explorer 7.

Are no other browsers supported?

My primary browser is Firefox, and I use Internet Explorer 6 for support of an older product. (It is just about done in the changes needed to use 7 without problems.)

Is this the reason I can not look at the demo site?

I see on the Wiki they have a link to the My Insteon ISY http://www.universal-devices.com/MyInsteonISY/

This is what I was referring to on a previous posting. What is this for? To me it appears that it should be a demo site, but that is not the case.

If I use it, and try to close the ISY interface with the Exit command from the menu, it hoses up Firefox every time. Wasssuuuppp with that?

Thanks for any insight.

Steve

Rand,

Thanks for the info. I guess it seemed weird to me. I work in commercial HVAC automation for a living, and when I see a link like that, I assume it is taking you someplace where there is a device. When I saw a page that looked like the stuff in the ISY literature, I "assumed" it was a ISY somewhere that was not functioning properly.

I guess to me, it seems weird that you would have to go to the Universal Devices site to view your own ISY. Why wouldn't you just log into it locally?

Maybe this is weird to me because I do it for a living, and I am guessing they are doing some of this to make it more user friendly for the average Joe.

Waiting for my Insteon started kit to get here. Once I start swapping out some X-10 stuff, I am sure more Insteon will follow.

Waiting to see what the ISY-99 is like before I purchase a controller. I also see Smarthome is revamping their stuff.

I had some conversations with them over the last year or so and they were supposed to have a Insteon replacement for the 1132cu, which for all reality would be something like the ISY-26.

I think I'll wait until the ISY-99 is out, and maybe the new Smarthome stuff is out before I go that route. I hope it happens quickly though.

I was just out figuring how I was going to swap out my pool pump timer and go Insteon. I think a inlinelinc controlling a 110volt coil contactor is going to be my cheapest route.

Thanks for the info all.

The nice thing about the ISY is it is accessable from muitiple locations; the weblink (which you can drag and drop an icon to your desktop so you don't have to go to the website), My Network Places, and direct IP address.

That would be good for a demo. OurInsteonISY. UDI could link a handful of devices to it.

Most times you would log in locally. MyInsteonISY is an alternative.

By all means take your time to evaluate Insteon before you make a large commitment.
