mrxmas Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I have some older Appliancelincs, V23 and one V28. For some reason the dont want to communicate with the ISY! They all link up, and respond to the manual on off on the Main Console. They also respond to timed events. Is there a reason why them show as "Can't Communicate" Is there some thing I need to do different?
LeeG Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 mrxmas Some ApplianceLincs respond with a NAK when there is no load attached. Try plugging something into the ApplianceLinc Lee
mrxmas Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Thank you Lee, That seemed to do the trick!!!!
Teken Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 mrxmas Some ApplianceLincs respond with a NAK when there is no load attached. Try plugging something into the ApplianceLinc Lee Lee, Could you provide some more insight as to why this is?
LeeG Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I believe it was considered a feature at the time. If the load was physically turned Off or unplugged the NAK signaled a problem with the load. Of course when starting out with the device it is common not to have anything plugged into the ApplianceLinc so the NAK is presented by the ISY as a communications error which is one of the things a NAK can indicate.
Brian H Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I don't think my hardware 1.3, firmware v.28 ApplianceLincs NAK with no load.
Teken Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Good info once again. Brian, could you confirm if the NAK is present in the older units you have for us? I ask because I do believe there are one or two of these in my back up drawer. It would be great to know if this device does operate as stated above so I could deploy them for specific duties and know the expected outcome during a power outage. Teken . . .
Brian H Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Teken, I should be able to see how my hw 1.3, fw v.28 ApplianceLincs act. You may also find my Obscure Bug find in the old ApplianceLinc interesting. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2752 LeeG, If I do a query or maybe a read device links with no load on them. Would that be enough to test for a NAK response? Event Viewer would be open with device communications events chosen. I don't remember any error messages when I added them or swapped a few for failed units. They didn't have loads on them if memory serves me.
LeeG Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Brian I think the command has to turn the ApplianceLinc On to get the NAK. The device is responding with an indication that the load did not turn On even though the On command was successfully received. That is from memory. Have not had a chance to dig out an old ApplianceLinc to verify that first hand. Been trying to clear up a problem with HL so I can run a test for IM. Lee
Brian H Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Monitor Logs from InHomeFre. On and Off Commands with a load, then no load. Factory Reset modules. Not linked to anything. Except the ApplianceLinc 4.2 that is my kitchen under cabinet module. Note log times start at bottom of each group and latest time is at the top of each group. It does look like early version will send an NAK while later ones do not. Brian H Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 More tests as through my ISY99i, I could turn off a load on my older ApplianceLincs and not get the NAK or Can't Communicate with a Device Message. If there is an X10 Primary Address in them. You do not get a NAK. My computer room ApplianceLinc. Factory Reset and restored links but no X10 Address. Then added an X10 address back. LeeG Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Brian Great job of covering all the variations. Even an On command to 0% On Level returned a NAK on the older devices. I did not know the effect an X10 address assignment had on the question. Lee
