Slave/Load and keypad linc switch questions

Featured Replies

We have replaced many defective switches recently using the ISY-99 system and have run across a couple of issues and hope someone can give some input. Do the load and slave switches control the designated light simply due to the wiring, or does the slave only control the light when it is linked to the load? I have one slave switch that appears to operate correctly but is not turning the light on or off. It appears to be linked to the load (links created by previous homeowner). What can we do? Have double checked all wiring though these switches were never replaced and don't see a wiring issue.

Also, we have a keypad linc switch that had all the buttons working correctly before replacing some switches that were linked to to the buttons. The programming appears to still have those links, but they are not operating. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Insteon devices control other Insteon devices by being linked together, not wired together as in standard switch multi-way configurations.

When one switch stops controlling the linked switch it is normally a link problem or possibility interference on the powerline. The links for each device can be verified by a right click on the switch in the My Lighting tree and select Diagnostics | Show Device Links Table. When the display completes there is a Compare button along the bottom of the display that directs the ISY to compare the links retrieved against what it thinks should be in the device.

Did you add the new switches to My Lighting and then use the replace function to remove the old switches and add the new ones?

If not the old links are still in the KeypadLinc and not the replacement ones.

Yes, we did add the new switches and then replaced the old ones with new ones carrying over all links. We did this with 40 switches with success, and this just happened to be involved with the last one we replaced. Must be Murphy's Law!
