Speaker Control

Featured Replies

Looking for a device that will allow me to run a speaker wire to it and then based on me by a kpl if it continues to run to the speaker or not.

Joe

If simple On/Off is all that is needed (not some form of balanced resistance) the I/O Linc Relay contacts should work. If more than one location will be controlled then one of the Simplehomenet devices that have multiple relays in the same device (EZIO4O has 4 relays as one example).

There is also an IP controlled card that has relays which can be controlled through the Network Module. I have not used that card but there are several posts on this forum about it. Search for WebControl.

While I have not attempted this, would not an EZIO40 suffice?

From Smarthome

[scott] Hello joseph. Thank you for contacting Smarthome. My name is Scott. I will be assisting you today.

[joseph] can i use EZIO40 to relay speaker sound?

[scott] technically yes, BUT... you can get popping noises when it cycles. How many watts are being fed thru>?

[joseph] 20 watts, but I don't want popping noises

[scott] I would suggest a proper speaker switch ( http://www.smarthome.com/8855/ATON-DLA4 ... rol/p.aspx

) and if you get one with IR remote capabilities, you could use a 2411T to integrate with INSTEON

That looks like a nice solution, if a bit pricey. Plus, it adds volume control. I may have to consider for my own use.

If you are buying or upgrading equipment you may want to consider a Sonos system. Using Network Resources you can control volume and other functions. This is a "deluxe" solution and is not inexpensive, but what you end up with is a multi-zone, internet-enabled music system that you can control (at least in a rudimentary way) from your ISY.
