False Burglar Alarm

My ELK burglar alarm went off this morning at exactly 5:00 am. I am thinking it was a false alarm for several reasons.

1. Exactly 5:00 am.

2. The contact broken was a pair of windows wired in series (I think) and there was no indication of any kind of forced entry. There is an EOL resistor on this contact.

3. Very windy night could have caused some kind of pressure difference in the house(brief change in contact voltage? -reaching*)

4. I have my ELK linked in with my ISY via the new module.

5. After I turned the alarm off the contact still showed broken in my ISY but not on my ELK.

I've had the alarm for over 2 years now and this is my first false alarm. The ISY sent proper notification so I'm glad to know that works.

Any suggestions or ideas on what caused this how to prevent future false alarms?

*edit* As I sit here and type this the wind is ripping and howling. It's causing some creaking in the front of the house where the false alarm happened.

When you say "ISY still showed broken contact", are you referring to the voltage? Voltage reports in ISY must be querried, they do not update spontaneously. So you may have been looking at an old value. Status on the other hand will update spontaneously. Also, if you were looking at the ISY console and it had been open for a while, it may have lost its connection. You can still browse the ISY admin console but all the info is old.

I really don't think that there is any way that ISY could cause a false alarm or prevent a real alarm on an alarmed zone. Perhaps a programmatically activated alarm, but if your Elk log reports that a zone became not secure, I think it probably actually became not secure.

I was looking at my eK Pro app on my iphone. it showed violated for a long time. Disconnected and connected to my Elk and it was "Green" or good.

Are the window sensors magnetic or pressure?

magnetic

I'm going to review my ELK log tonight and pretend I know what I'm looking for.
