Newbie/Question on Remot linked to a dimmer & update in ISY

Hi there. Brand new user of ISY and a bit confused.

 

I have a remoteLinc linked to a dimmer switch (2476D). This works well, the remote turn on/off/dim the lights. However the status of the light is not reflected in ISY admin console. Should this be done automatically ? The only way I found to have the status of the light reflected in ISY is to create a scene with the remoteLinc (cotroller) and the switch as a controller/responder. I did add the remote as a linked device in ISY through Link Management/Link a remoteLinc.

 

Do I have to create scene for every light I wish to control with a remote to see the status of the light updated in ISY ?

Manual Set button links should not be done. The ISY is not aware of them and will eventually erase or overlay the Set button link records.

 

With a Set button link the ISY is not notified of the button press so it is not aware of responder state changes.

 

The correct way is to define an ISY Scene, adding the appropriate Controllers and Responder. More than one Controller can be added to an ISY Scene. Controllers are normally added as Scene Controllers so the ISY will cross link them as appropriate so that all Controllers are in sync regarding their status LEDs.

 

It is normal to have a different ISY Scene for each Controller button unless the responders are all the same and only On Level and/or Ramp Rates are different. For example, button A turns On a set of responders to some On Level and Ramp Rate. If button B Is turning on the same set of responder but to a different set of On Level and/or Ramp Rate values, the same ISY Scene can be used for button A and button B. Each Controller in an ISY Scene can have different On Level and/or Ramp Rate values for its responders.

Thanks. So I guess the same is true for slave switch in a 3-way circuit, they should not be linked manually but rather be part of an ISY Scene where the slave switch is just a controller and the master is a controller/responder. Right ?

That is correct. With very few exceptions associated with devices with special needs, no links should be established outside of the ISY. Both switches should be Controllers of the same ISY Scene. The ISY assumes a Controller is also a Responder and establishes the cross links necessary to allow both devices to control the load and keep both in sync with their respective status LEDs.
