Another 3-Way Circuit Question

Recommended Posts

I am trying to setup a 3-way circuit using just Insteon scenes but can't get it configured via the ISY.

Components:

1) 2457 In-LineLinc Dimmable v.00 with some spots wired to it.

2) 2486DWH8 KeypadLinc Dimmer 8 Button v.2D

3) ISY 99i Pro (1040) v3.1.17

I want to be able to control the spots using either switch and have the current state (on/off) displayed on the "B" key of the KeypadLinc. Right now the KeypadLinc doesn't track the current status so I need to push the button twice to turn the spots off. First push turns them on again and the second turns them off.

I also need to be able to control the spots via an ISY program. Turn on the lights at dusk and off later in the evening. I have created an ISY scene with both switches included. I can add the KeypadLinc has both a Controller or Responder but the In-LineLinc can only be added as a Responder (doesn't give you an choice).

I thought I read about this in the forums but can't find the posts.

I look forward to your insight. Pointers to forum posts would be great.

Thanks,

/Tom

The KeypadLinc button is added to the ISY Scene as a Controller. The ISY assumes the Controller is also a Responder.

The InLineLinc was added to the ISY by specifying an actual Device Type. This is why the firmware says v.00. It was added as an InLineLinc without sense which is why it cannot be added to the Scene as a Controller.

Does the InLineLinc actually have w/sense?

Why was Auto Discover not used when adding the InLineLinc to the ISY?

How are the floods being turned On when the KeypadLinc button B does not indicate they are On?

Thanks for the quick response.

I don't remember how I added the In-LineLinc to the system. It was years ago. How do I remove from the ISY so I can add it back in with auto-discovery?

The In-LineLinc does not have sense.

The Keypad gets out of sync when the lights are turn on manually at the In-LineLinc or I control the device and not the scene on the ISY.

Thanks.

To use Auto Discover the InLineLinc has to be Deleted from the ISY and added back either using Start Linking or New INSTEON Device using Auto Discover. It will show the InLineLinc firmware level but will not change anything functionally from what you have now.

The InLineLinc without Sense is a Responder Only device. It does not have Controller capability so turning the InLineLinc on manually with the On/Off buttons on the InLineLinc does not signal that change to any other device. Thus neither the ISY nor the KeypadLinc will know the InLineLinc has changed state.

In Insteon turning an individual device On/Off (such as through the Admin Console) controls only that individual device. For the KeypadLinc to be aware of changes to the InLineLinc it is necessary to turn the Scene On or Off. That will turn the KeypadLinc button LED On/Off as well as the InLineLinc itself.

Good News. Got it all configured and working.

Once I removed the device and add it back into the ISY system via the auto discovery, it showed up as a 2476D SwitchLinc Dimmer v.27. Then I added it back into the scene as a controller.

The key thing I learned from this was to make sure all my devices are identified correctly and were added to the ISY via auto discovery. Most of the time it is the simple but key things to keep an eye on.

Time to go check on the rest of my devices.

Thanks for your assistance Lee !
