sanders2222 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I just now connected up my Russound to my network with an IP-232 adapter. Do I need the Network Module to communicate to it from the ISY? If so, do I also need to learn REST to send commands to turn zones on/off? Can the ELK control the Russound? Are announcements from the ELK suppose to broadcast in the Russound zones?
MstrD Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Yes you need the network module. In the isy-99i wiki there is a downloadable file with many of the network resources already setup (zones on/off) etc. You don't need to learn REST. It is one way only - isy99i to the Russound. There isn't any information back. If you have an iPhone/iPad there is also an app called Llama Panel Pro. It uses the same RS232 connection and you can control a lot that way as well. Which model Russound do you have?
sanders2222 Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 I have an older CAA66 model. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=caa66+russound&view=detail&id=F51DFC36B4F8DA3C9EE1B810C5C4A8EABDC1DC21&first=0 How does the Elk M1 work with the Russound?
MstrD Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I have two CAV66's (I also have a CAA66 but I'm selling it). The CAV has a source for paging, in addition to the 6 source inputs. To make the CAA connect with an audio source for paging / audio alerts, you would have to connect it to one of your 6 sources, and then turn on a zone to the source. I don't have the ELK, but I don't believe there is any specific integration with a Russound unit with the isy-99i. You could incorporate commands into your isy-99i to control the Russound, but I don't know how all 3 can work together. At least not automatically.
sanders2222 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 The CAV66 has some features (as you mentioned) I could use. Would you know if the CAA66 keypads would work with the CAV66? It would be nice not to have to replace those. Does the unit have a LAN input or does it still require the IP-232 adapter?
MstrD Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Which keypads do you have? I have a couple KPL with the CAA. I know that the keypads for the CAV work with the CAA (the Uno S1/S2). I can try the KPL on the CAV and see if that works. I'm guessing that they do, but maybe with less functionality. I'll let you know. The CAV also does video swithcing, but it's composite only. The other big difference is the paging. It works in two different ways. If you plug in an audio source, it has auto-sensing when something is broadcast. There is a delay though, so the first part sounds cropped off. If the the message is "The forecast for...", you hear "cast for". There is also a trigger input. If it senses 12v, it turns on the paging, and then you don't have the delay. It doesn't have a LAN input. You still need the RS232. I'm using the Global Cache GC-100.
sanders2222 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 I have the CAS44 LCD Keypads. I would assume they would not handle the video but my home is only wired for audio. Maybe Russound could answer that one. I do like the features you mentioned and they more or less do what I thought my unit could do. Theoretically, an ELK output can send the 12V to the unit for announcements, door bell or whatever, all controlled with the ISY! Hmmmm
MstrD Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I hooked up one of the KPL LCD keypads to my CAV66 (the ones that I used with a CAA66). They seem to work ol Turned on the zone, picked the source, etc. The "normal" functions. My guess is that they would work, but they wouldn't be able to take 100% advantage of the features that the UNO keypads can.
