How do I set my ELK in correct Away mode?

I’m struggling with how to set up my garage doors in my ELK so I can arm the system in the ‘Away’ mode.

I’ve had an ‘Exit’ button set up by my interior garage door access that (using ISY programs) puts the house in an away mode. I’ve semi-successfully added the ELK M1 to arm but not like I’d like. I’ve discovered 2 things: 1) If any door is open the Elk system is not ‘Ready’ and cannot be armed when the Exit button is pushed.

2) If a ‘exit’ door (e.g. garage door) is not opened after the Exit button is set (remotely by the ISY), then the Arm status is in Stay mode, not Away.

I like the convenience of my garage access exit button, but it would be nice if the Elk would set in the Away mode. I find it not practical to make sure the garage doors are closed at the time I’m leaving. So rule #1 applies. I can’t arm the Elk at the time I push the button.

So I set my system up with a 1:30 minute delay from the time the button is pushed and the Elk gets armed. This delay allows time to get in car, back out and close the garage doors. With doors closed, the Elk gets armed but rule #2 applies.

Is there any way the garage door zones can be setup in the Elk that provide a workaround for #2 and will arm the Elk in the Away mode?

I'm having a bit of a hard time following your situation.

However,

You might be best served to set your garage doors as "force arm" in Elk. The doors can then stay open as long as you like. The elk only puts them into the proctected circuit once they become secure.
