Changing from a 6 key pad to an 8 key pad

I have a bunch of controls that were initially configured as 6 key. I put the 8 key keypad set on. I have tried multiple times and with some variations in technique, and I just can't get them to be recognized on the ISY as 8 key.

I have pulled out the the little pin that powers off the keypad. Then pressed in the pin while holding keys main and H. It just is not working for me.

Can anyone supply the correct process steps?

Since this is something we don't do often, it's hard to remember the exact steps necessary to make the change. When I needed to change a keypad, I called SH. I don't recall how long I had to wait for help, but once I got someone, they were very helpful and walked me though the process and key presses plus answer other questions I had about the switch. I'd suggest you try that route.

Is the problem the KeypadLinc is not changing to 8 button mode or the ISY is not recognizing the change. If the later it is not automatic. The KeypadLinc has to be Deleted and added again to pick up the additional nodes. If the KeypadLinc is not changing, cycle the Main button after making the change with Main and H held On.

What ISY firmware is being used. I changed a KeypadLinc from 6 to 8 button which the ISY recognized when I added it back at 3.2.6.

You actually have to hold the buttons and air gap longer than you think you would. Hold them in until the MAIN and load turns on.

The buttons are not changing to 8. ISY firmware current. I have left the reset tab out for minutes. In for a long time with upper left and lower right buttons depressed before and during pressing in the reset tab.

No matter how long I keep the reset depressed the switch does nothing apparent. When I release the reset, in a couple of seconds it turns on the load and lights the top two buttons. Cycling makes no difference. It is still operating as a 6 button. Toggling alternately activates the top and bottom two button lights.

Are you pressing the air gap switch only flush with the frame and not pushing it into its active position below the level of the frame while holding the Main and H buttons pressed.

Add the KeypadLinc with the Auto Discover option. That way the KeypadLinc firmware level will be listed and there should be 8 nodes when the device add completes.

I have a keypad I need to do this with, too, but forget the steps. Would someone mind posting a summary of the steps here.

Thanks!

1 - Replace the keys and install switch.

2 - Pull out the disconnect tab at the bottom (it will stay out - go have a beer) for maybe 5 seconds - more is OK.

3 - Hold keys main and H, push the tab back in. Don't depress it. Just put it back where it was. Wait for noises. If you had a lot of these and followed the beer step, find a sober assistant.

4 - Set Admin console to "Start Linking".

5 - Depress the same tab into the switch. Hold it for 5 seconds or until it makes a funny noise.

6 - Finish the linking task in Admin.

7 - Rejoice. You just bypassed a day of exasperating work.

Thanks! Are these the same steps for a switch that has already been installed and programmed? We are the second homeowners. I did something like this with 2 other switches that seemed to have regressed to thinking they were 6 button switches before. Are the two buttons you say to hold the top left and bottom right. Am thinking I remember pressing restore device instead of start linking as these already have links to all 8 buttons.
