CopyRon Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 My Isy is no longer found here, https://xxxxxxxx.dyndns-at-home.com/ How do I get it back? I can find it at either IP address.
CopyRon Posted August 27, 2012 Author Posted August 27, 2012 I guess my isp changed, tho I don't know why. Had to change it at dyndns. Is working now!
bsobel Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Do you have your router or another device setup to update dyndns automatically? If not when your IP changes (and for some ips that can be hourly for some it might only be every few months) you'll have this issue.
CopyRon Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 I probably don't have it set to update, don't know how, but will look into it. Thank you
bsobel Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Many routers today have the option somewhere in their config. You enter your dyndns username/pw and they will automatically update the host name with the current IP when it changes.
johnnyt Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Some routers (like the Linksys BEFVP41) send updates regularly, like every 10 mins, even if there has been no IP address change. If you have a free DynDNS account, that's considered abusive and you'll get cut off. If your router does this or doesn't have DDNS option, you can use this software http://www.kanasolution.com/products/dy ... -download/. Another reason to use this software is that it can be configured to send an email when the IP address changes. I have it send me an email at work so I have my latest IP address there because the corporate firewall blocks dyndns web addresses. Note that you do need a computer on your LAN to be running for this to work.
CopyRon Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks for all the replies. I'm looking into not having this happen again. Maybe it's time a real DynDNS account.
