jmed999 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I just realized the 5 Amp filterlincs I bought are for X10...do they also work with INSTEON?
LeeG Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 FilterLincs that support Insteon come in 5 and 10 amp variants. I use the 5 amp variant on a TV and the small UPS devices scattered around the house. The 10 amp variant supports a large UPS and other PC and telecom equipment. What is the item number of the FilterLinc in question?
jmed999 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 The instructions don't say anything about Insteon just X10. http://www.amazon.com/Smarthome-1626-Filterlinc-Noise-Filter/dp/B0007N7288/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1346268266&sr=8-4&keywords=filterlinc
LeeG Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Who knows! They don't even provide a Smarthome item number. The FilterLinc function prevents noise from reaching the powerline at the X10 frequency and prevents the X10 signal from being attenuated. The Insteon and X10 frequencies are close enough that it probably works. Purchase at your own risk. A few months ago someone was selling the plugin SignaLincs with the black external antenna. They are the predecessor to Access Points. They do not work with any of the current RF devices and do not couple Extended messages. Useless in today’s Insteon but I’m sure someone purchased them.
Brian H Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 The FilterLinc sales page on the Smarthome site shows both X10 and Insteon. The 5 amp FilterLinc is basically a 10 amp one with a smaller internal fuse. From all I could determine comparing a 10 and 5 amp models insides. 1626 is the 5 amp version of the FilterLinc and is what is showing on the Amazon web page you linked to. 1626-10 is the 10 amp version and the only one Smarthome now sells.
jmed999 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 I don't see it on the smarthome website...does anyone have a link?
Brian H Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 The 1626 5 amp FilterLinc was discontinued months ago. Amazon must have some remaining stock. Use the 1626-10 web page. http://www.smarthome.com/1626-10/Filter ... ter/p.aspx Manual covers both the 1626 and 1626-10 versions and indicates it is Insteon Compatible. http://www.smarthome.com/manuals/1626.pdf
jmed999 Posted August 29, 2012 Author Posted August 29, 2012 I wonder why they discontinued a 5 Amp Filterlinc? All they sell is a 10 Amp?
jmed999 Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Just to follow up on the 5 amp filterlics. I think I'm going to return these. They have a pretty loud buzzing noise that I just can't live with. My 10 amp versions are quite but the 5 amp version is very loud.
Brian H Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Buzz is probably the heavy coils in the unit. Maybe the wire not wound tightly on the toroid bobbin. If it is buzzing I would return them also. The buzzing ones. Are they the ones giving you the problems you are having in your other thread?
