osurh18 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 So I've got a fanlinc that I recently installed and I think there is an issue. I'm controlling the fan speeds through a 6 button keypad. The keypad seems to be setup correctly. I am using a ISY-99i to control everything. Each button is set up to control the speeds via a scene. The issue is I think the fanlinc isn't switching from low to med to high speeds. It all seems to be high. Any suggestions? Thanks A separate issue is that my fan has no manual direction switch. I can only switch it using their remote and their IR receiver. Since Fanlinc doesn't have the direction control built in, has anyone figured out a way to get around this?
LeeG Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Each ISY Scene that has a KeypadLinc Secondary button as Controller and the FanLinc Motor as a Responder will have a different Responder On Level. Below the ISY Scene name is the name of the Controller Secondary KeypadLinc button. Click on the KPL button name and set the Responder On Level (for the FanLinc Motor) to the desired speed. This has to be done for each of the 3 or 4 Scenes being used for FanLinc Motor speed.

LeeG Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Run Diagnostics | Show Device Links Table against the FanLinc Light node and post the results including the Insteon address of a KeypadLinc that does not set the speed correctly. That will show whether the links have been set correctly.

Brian H Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 You may want to try saving the event viewer output in the text mode. Easier to read.
LeeG Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks Brian, that format is okay. I have a Java program that converts the XML into the equivalent link records.

osurh18 Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Does anyone have any suggestions about lack of a physical direction switch
oberkc Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Does anyone have any suggestions about lack of a physical direction switch Theoretically (I have not attempted), I believe one could come up with a solution based on an ISY program. It may require variables to define fan speeds, but I see this encompassing multiple programs with logic something like: if status fan is off and control switch set on then set fan to low if status fan is low and control switch is set to on then set fan to medium etc....
LeeG Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 oberkc The OP is asking how to reverse the rotation of the Fan Motor (Does anyone have any suggestions about lack of a physical direction switch).
oberkc Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 The OP is asking how to reverse the rotation of the Fan Motor. Well, then. Clearly I misunderstood. Ignore my suggestions. Thanks for pointing this out.
osurh18 Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 LeeG is correct I am trying to reverse the direction of the fan even using a fanlinc despite the fan itself not having a physical reverse button/switch. I called the fan manu as well and they suggested turning the fan on high and then flipping the breaker. The said to try this a few times and eventually the fan would change directions. Seemed weird but I tried it 5 times and the results did not change the fan direction. I stopped trying because it I was getting tired of walking up and down the 3 flights of stairs..... Anybody else have an idea?
LeeG Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 No direct experience with this. I saw a suggestion to use a sacrificed RF remote control, where an I/O Linc Relay would be connected in parallel with the RF remote button that would normally be used to reverse the Fan direction. I use the same principle with my garage doors as they are RF operated only. No normal wired button. Has worked well for the garage doors. The RF remote is already mounted on the wall so it was easy to connect a pair of wires to the door controller button that opens/closes the garage door. No idea if the same concept would work for the Fan Motor. Do not remember seeing any post back whether the suggestion worked for the other user.
