mdyod Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I had a remote controling 6 sceens perferctly yesterday ( had been working for months)- today it wont communicate - "ALL OFF/ON" still works and the sceens can be controled from the admin console and my iphone app so im pretty sure its the RL. I tried doing a "restore device" and "Write Updates" but no no avail.. Batteries are good. my 3 other remote lincs are still working fine Please help D

Try moving this RL to a location where another one works and try again. When was the last charge ? -Xathros

I'm thinking the RL has gone bad or needs resetting or something..

I'm thinking the RL has gone bad or needs resetting or something.. Unplug and replug the access point. I have had one stop working for no apparent reason and a power cycle corrected it. On one other occasion, one of my kids moved an AP to the switched portion of an outlet. This made for some intermittent communication issues till I located that error. I assume the RL led is blinks on button presses right ? -Xathros

mdyod Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 BTW - There are " ! " marks beside all the RL buttons in the admin console - not suprisingly
Xathros Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 BTW - There are " ! " marks beside all the RL buttons in the admin console - not suprisingly Try putting the RL in linking mode and Write Updates from the admin console. If that does not help, put it back in linking mode and do a restore device from the admin console. -Xathros
LeeG Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 The suggestions by Xathros should provide the solution. When the All On/Off buttons work and the individual RemoteLinc buttons do not it indicates a link record problem in the RemoteLinc. The All On/Off buttons do not depend on link records in the RemoteLinc where individual buttons do require valid link records. The Red ! indicates the ISY tried to write to the RemoteLinc, perhaps trying to do the Restore Device but the RemoteLinc was not in linking mode (to wake it up) or was temporarily out of RF range. I read comment about the batteries being good. If there is any question about this use new batteries. Doing a Restore Device where the RemoteLinc RF circuitry will be powered for several minutes will drain marginal batteries. If a Restore Device does not resolve the problem run a Show Device Links Table for the RemoteLinc and click the Compare button to insure the link records in the RemoteLinc actually match what the ISY thinks should be there. As with all activities that read or write the RemoteLinc be sure it is in linking mode with the RemoteLinc LED blinking before running the Restore or Show.

Xathros Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 YOU ARE Da MAN!!! that fixed it!!! Wonder why this was necessary? Hard to say for sure. I know I ran into something similar when I accidentally dragged a RL button to a scene thinking it was a KPL button. I saw my mistake and removed it but even though the end result was no change, the ISY wanted to write to the RL to do the updates. It was unhappy about that until I woke up the RL and allowed the ISY to to do its writes. I didn't test to see if the were functional issues with the RL during that brief time so can't say that this is what happened in your case or not. In any event, I'd guess the ISY saw a change to a scene that the RL was involved in and needed to update the links in the RL as a result. I'm sure LeeG's explanation of what was wrong is dead on and I'm glad this fixed the problem for you. -Xathros
