windrockwater
I have two old Access Points (v1.2 or so) and two newer Access Points (v2.5). I also have two SignalLinc RFs (v 1.0). I have a whole house full of insteon devices. Most are newer models and a few old ones. Does it make sense to plug in all four of the access points (both the newer and the older) and to also plug in the signallincs? Or does that create more harm than good? I am doing one more round of troubleshooting my whole house insteon (since Sandy has forced me to replace to many devices) and I am looking to the best suggested practices of using my devices. Any advice would be appreciated...
LeeG
The RF SignaLincs (with black external antenna) do not repeat/couple Extended commands. They work on a different frequency than the Access Points so there is no RF conflict but with 4 Access Points I think the RF SignaLincs can be removed. I still have my old SignaLincs plugged in but I think they are just taking up plug space considering all the Dual Band devices that are now in use. Two correctly positioned Access Points are all that is needed for phase coupling. The other Access Points can provide additional RF coverage for RF only devices such as Motion Sensors, TriggerLincs, RemoteLinc(2)s, etc.
Brian H
LeeG pointed out the differences. I personally will never use my two SignaLinc RFs is my house.
