Help decoding event viewer log

I'm trying to track down issues with my system. New construction, adding groups of Insteon as budget allows. The 20% discount helped to get a big box of stuff. I'm having some intermittent operations all over the house that I'm trying to track down.

I started on the hall, a 4-way scene with 3 other responders. One of the dummy SwitchLincs keeps giving me failed comm errors. I did a factory reset, device link table request fails too. This is (was) part of a larger scene that went crazy after I added the 3th responder.

This is a log from a query, query, ON (failed), query. Not sure what to make of it?

Do a Show Device Links Table followed with a Compare button click when all the link records have been read.

Device 1D.B8.20 is NAKing the On request with a response that looks like an I2CS device is being commanded from a PLM that is not authorized to talk to it. This can happen if the authorization link did not get established when the device was added to the ISY or perhaps the device was factory reset which would wipe out the authorization link record.

Thanks Lee, the device fails a link table request, and I did do a factory reset.

It was either a "write updates to device" or "query Insteon engine" that fixed the issue.

I have a 2477S on a remote fan that has a few unwanted links left from manual linking. Is there a better way to clear the link table than a factory reset?

Either a Factory Reset followed by a Restore Device or a Restore Device by itself. The advantage of a factory reset first is it clears the link database to all 00's before doing a restore device. The factory reset is not required, just creates a clean environment for the restore device. The restore device alone will eliminate the manual Set button links.

Thanks Lee, my remote fan's SwitchLinc still behaves like there is a manual link to the shower light SwitchLinc?

The local link will often (not always) override my ISY fan program.

The device link table still contains the address of the shower light [1F.A7.5A], 0FF0:AA 01 1F.A7.5A FF 1C 01

Is the data in the Device link table the same as shown in the ISY membership tree?

A compare shows the link entries (4) as identical, so I'm confused by this.

I've read that 02 & 22 are deleted entries, is AA also a deleted entry?

The link record Flag byte (first byte) is bit oriented.

The left most bit (0x80) indicates an active record. The 0x62, 0x22 and 0x02 entries do not have the 0x80 bit On so they are inactive records, logically deleted.

I have to do some research for an 0xAA entry. The Ax indicates an active Responder link record. The x2 bit is the high water mark which only means the record has been active at some point. I don't know what the x8 bit indicates. Don't think I have ever seen that combination of Flag byte in a link record.

Do a Show ISY Links Table for the device. That will show what links the ISY thinks should be in the device versus the Show Device Links Table which is what is actually in the device.

Thanks Lee, I checked the ISY link table AND the device link table (and did a compare too), it seems to be real.

Is the ISY membership tree a representation of this data?

Both of the bathroom fan/lights that are intermittent are all on the same GFCI protected circuit. I don't know if that is an issue, or I have problems everywhere and these are just the devices I play with the most?

Thanks for your help Lee,

Now that I'm learning what to look for, I dug a bit deeper and made a list of devices with more than 1 hop. The all seemed to be on that one GFCI circuit. I removed the GFCI, no difference. I moved my PLM to the wall, (I think my plug strip got swapped in the move) and that made a big improvement. doh, rookie mistake!

I still couldn't get rid of the AA in the link table, I decided to do the painful attic factory reset. Now I'm down to just low signal on an upstairs bathroom, everything up there functions but it takes 3 hops.

Is it normal to see random IR events?

Does the Show ISY Links Table display have the AA in the first byte of one of the link records? If so can you post an image of the Show ISY Links Table display.

It is not normal to see random IR events. Put a piece of opaque tape over the IR receiver hole. If the IR events go away there is something in the field of view of the ISY generating IR. If the IR events continue even with the IR receiver covered contact UDI support directly. That would indicate an issue with the IR card.

Correct, the first byte after the address is AA. Unfortunately I didn't get a screen grab before I reset the devices. I do have the XML file from the save. I tried to attach the file, no dice.

I've had that piece of black electrical tape covering every orifice on the front of the ISY all day. I still get a random IR Press every few seconds.

Thanks,

Paul

I do not think that is a valid link record Flag byte.

0FF8 : A2 00 19.75.92 FF 1F 01

0FF0 : AA 01 1F.A7.5A FF 1C 01

0FE8 : E2 01 19.75.92 FF 1F 01

0FE0 : 00 00 00.00.00 00 00 00

Device Record Count : 4

Since the ISY is only going to reset the Active bit if that link is deleted the only way I know to clean it up is to Delete the device from the ISY, do a factory reset of the device and add it back to the ISY.
