About a week ago I started getting errors in the ISY console (latest version) that it could not communicate with the device - but the device still responds to existing scene on/off commands just fine. LeeG Posted December 22, 2012 Share Posted December 22, 2012 That is unusual as Scene commands tend to be the least reliable when communications problems begin. Turning a Scene On/Off will not generate an error popup because the Scene command is not ACKed so the ISY has no idea if each Responder actually reacted. I'm hoping the conclusion that Scenes are working is from observation of the Responders, not what the ISY reports. Assuming the devices are reacting correctly to Scene On/Off commands, what was being done when the cannot communicate message was generated? If the condition can be recreated, run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3. Perform the task that generates the comm error message and post the event log. I have highlighted in Red all the cases where the OutletLinc failed to give a response to a command sent to it. The ISY will retry until the sequence fails in such a way as there is no retry. That is what happened here. A command failed to get a response from the OutletLinc, the ISY went into recovery mode and issued a command to reestablish the link database address being accessed. That command also failed to get a response for which there is not recovery. arw01 Posted December 22, 2012 Share Posted December 22, 2012 Time to do some troubleshooting. Today I was beating my head against the wall doing some scene updated. Moved the access point right into the outlet that the KPL get's it's power from and still c ommunications issues. I ended up using an extension cord to plug the plm into the same outlet as the access point and NO MORE PROBLEM programming it. I went from lots of hops left 1 and 0 to 2 hops left. Programmed it no problem. Then i did an controllinc across the room, same problems. Moved it to the same outlet and bam, instant programming. I also happen to have an ELK x10 signal meter and could see the voltage was under 1 before moving the access point to the same circuit as the control linc. Now it's over 5 volts and no problem. Tonight I will shutdown the linux machine, and put a filter on all the wall warts, pc supplies etc and see if that brings up the Elk meter where the PLM used to be plugged in before I move it back.
