Insteon noise maker

I have a very bad habit of walking out the back door in the mornings to let the dog out while the alarm (Elk M1G) is armed. I have to walk out the back door into the screened in porch so I can open the screen door to let him into the back yard. I stand at the screened door until he is finished. While I stand there the alarm goes off and the call center calls me.

I need an Insteon device on the screened in porch to let me know the back door sensor was violated so I can go back in and enter my code during the 30 second delay thus preventing an alarm. I have thought about blinking the lights on the screened in porch but sometimes it's after the sun comes up and I don't think I would notice the lights blinking with the ceiling of the screened in porch being 10 feet. So I need something to produce a subtle tone or low volume buzzer. I could then write a program to enable the tone or buzzer if the back door sensor is violated and the system is armed.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks for your help!

Does the switch controlling the back porch lights support the beep function? If so, send a beep every 5 seconds or so.

There is a lot of property crime where I live so it is important to be to be notified if I leave a garage door opened. Some of this may be overkill for your application but for me, this solution works perfectly and is nearly 100% reliable:

I am using two remote doorbell chimes and an IOLinc to notify me when a garage door has been open longer than 15-minutes.

There are less expensive remote chimes out there but I know that this one works:

- I use two receivers triggered by the same transmitter. One chime is in the garage and the other in the house. The chime in the garage is to let me know that I am bothering family members by having the door open and to bypass the system (see below).

- The 15-minute timer in an ISY program is triggered by the DSC alarm zone being violated. ISY is notified of this through DSCLink.

- If I double-click on a garage light switch (send fast-on to ISY), a program will disable the 15-minute timer and the chime. This also sends a signal to an EZIO2x4 relay in the garage to light a LED and let me know that the chime is disabled.

- The chime warning system will automatically re-arm itself either when the garage light is switched off or after 2-hours.

- If the door has been left open and once the 15-minutes has elapsed, the chime rings every 10-seconds and I get one text message sent to my cell phone to notify me of the problem.

I hope some of this may be useful to you.

Thanks for the reply! Not sure but the back French doors are in the middle of an 18 feet wide section of windows so the switch is about 7 feet away and by the time I walk out the door I'm not sure I would hear it. The keypad is at another door about 25 feet away and I don't hear it either.

I'm thinking along the lines of a very small radio set to on and medium volume on the screened in porch. I don't think Insteon makes an outdoor switchlinc so maybe a micro relay module would work.

Or if I could get a wireless siren/intercom that works with Elk set to med volume and programmed to do what I need.

Any other ideas?

This may work for me...thanks! I'll have to study your bulleted list as it's not very clear what you mean but I think I could easily write a program to solve my issue. Thanks again!

How about an X10 universal module? It's like an IO Linc but with a "sounder" option. You can just use it as a sounder (chime) either in a momentary or steady on/off configuration. I put one in my daughter's room set to momentary as part of her alarm clock "system" that starts by brightening her light slowly then ISY sends 3 X10 ON commands 3 secs apart.

You say a beep is a problem due to distances involved. So instead, use a light.

Flash the light. 1 single red Xmas bulb plugged into an applicancelinc.

You could dim it by 50% or more if a bright red flashing thing is annoying.

Insteon does an outdoor appliancelinc if weather might be an issue.

I use one on my coffeemaker for remote on/off when I forget to turn it off.

Really kool little square plastic box, not zactly totally waterproof, but then it

does not need to be.

And put a different screen door on with a pet opening so you do not have

to actually go to the door to let Bowser in.
