Polisy loses Credentials to ISY with Power Outage
LarryCRetired replied to LarryCRetired's topic in Polisy
Michel What I can do later this week is simulate a total power outage. That means having the ISY reboot and have it energize the switch that tuns on the Polisy 20 minutes later I know my solution works with the ISY running and the Polisy turned on and off but I have not tried with both units having to reboot. Would this be helpful? -
Polisy loses Credentials to ISY with Power Outage
LarryCRetired replied to LarryCRetired's topic in Polisy
Michel I have had this issue with the loss of my credentials with three different ISY's so it has to be something in my setup. I have tried a number of things including slowing down the startup process with the ISY, but the Polisy always loses my credentials. I just happened to have the ISY running and I unplugged the Polisy to move it, when I started it up, I did not have to reenter my credentials and the node servers were connected. After that experience, I bought the switch and delayed the energizing of the switch until the ISY stabilized. This just works but I have no idea why. Hopefully once everything is in one box, it won't matter any more. -
@techman. No problem. I owed you for a previous favor!

@Techman just tuned in to this discussion so apologize if this is something you already know. I checked an old Serial PLM box and a new USB PLM box and my cables are inside one of the sleeves in the boxes. When everyone was saying they received cables, I also thought I did not get any. But I looked a second time and, as I said, they are hidden in the sleeve. Hope you find them

Polisy loses Credentials to ISY with Power Outage
LarryCRetired replied to LarryCRetired's topic in Polisy
Thought I would close this issue with a solution that I implemented in case anyone else ever has this issue. I bought an Aeotec Zwave Smart Switch 7 which has the ability to set a parameter to have the device in the off position when power is restored after a power outage. I put this device on my Polisy and 20 minutes after the ISY reboots and stabilizes, I have the ISY energize this Smart Switch. With this procedure, I do not lose my credentials and my node servers do not need to be restarted. This will be a short-term solution since I am looking forward to having my ISY on the Polisy. Hope this is useful to someone else. -
I currently have 5 node servers running on my Polisy. They are as follows: Tags OpenWeather Notifcation Node Server ISY Inventory TimeData For the most part I do not like subscription based pricing and would probably stir clear of a node server priced that way My experience only, is that I don't see that much value in updates unless there is a feature that makes my life easier. Maybe I am biased because I hate (strong word) the constant updates from Apple which sometimes made a well used and user friendly process more difficult. Of the 5 node servers I use, I would rather pay upfront for them and if there were updates, other than major bug related making the server unusable, let me decide if the update has value, and if so, pay for that update. These 5 node servers have a lot of value for me and I honestly feel like I should have paid something for their use.

Not sure how much experience there is with my issue. I had a 5 minute power outage this morning. After both my ISY and Polisy stabilized after power was restored, I found that my node servers were not working and, after logging into the Polisy, it asked me to re-enter my ISY credentials. I have these node servers on the Polisy. After adding my credentials, I had to restart all of them to get data back into the ISY. Tags Notification Node Server OpenWeatherMap ISY Inventory Just wonder if anyone has experienced this problem and if they had, how they were able to fix it. Running Firmware and UI 5.3.0 Polyglot Version 2.2.13 Windows 10 CenturyLink Modem/Router I replaced my ISY recently but both of them responded this way with a Power Outage I have 8 programs that run at start-up. A Leak Detector Program that took 16 seconds to run for 4 insteon leak detectors (program from WIKI), a calendar program that checks the day of the week - no seconds recorded for these checks and the ISY Start Up program that sends messages that the ISY was restarted - 7 minutes and 24 seconds. Thanks to anyone having any ideas on how to fix.

@jpoje and @asbril or others i am looking for a module that, after a power outage, will come back in the off position when the power is restored. Could either of you let me know if it is possible with a zwave module to set this parameter. I have not found a way with insteon but I am far from being an expert Much appreciated and thank you

Javi I know am late to the party. Just loaded the IOS version on my iPhone. What a great job you have done. Loading a few favorites now. It used to take me minutes using the dashboard on my iPad, to find a variable and a program so I could start my irrigation system manually. Thank you so much Javi and UDI for this application. After I upgraded to version 5 a year ago and the opportunity to use node servers, I thought that was the cat's meow, but this app takes it up one more level. With the ISY moving to Polisy some time in the future, UDI in my opinion, is the only system I would recommend to anyone. Thank you

Bill Although I have noting concrete to tell you, my notification from a text was pretty close to 7 minutes when I was using text for notification. I really cannot use email as a gauge because they vary a lot. Tomorrow, I am going to change my time to 20 minutes and power down both devices, and see if that makes a difference. I will keep track of the times when I do that.

Bill Wanted to give you a break but I appreciate your help. I had to reset the credentials in the Polisy using the Polisy screen and then restart the node servers. Here is my startup program. aNotification On Startup - [ID 00A4][Parent 009D][Run At Startup] If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Wait 7 minutes $i_Power_Outage_Variable = 1 Wait 3 seconds Send Notification to 'Home Email' content 'Start_Up' Wait 3 seconds Resource 'Push_ISY_Restarted' Wait 3 seconds Run Program 'Shut Off Lights at Startup - Daytime' (If) Wait 3 seconds Run Program 'Shut Off Lights at Startup - Normally Off' (If) Wait 3 seconds Send Notification to 'Home Gmail' content 'Start_Up' Wait 3 seconds $i_Power_Outage_Variable = 0 Resource 'Push_Power_Outage_Variable' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') I like to use a lot of waits where I probably don't need to. I have some insteon bulbs when they still made them, that with a power outage, turn on. So that is the reason for the light programs. My 7 minute wait seems right for me prior to the Polisy but I wonder if I bumped it up, my problem would go away. The lost credential issue is something that I had with the Pi with newer versions of Polyglot. UDI and I suspect it is me not using the default HTTPs port. I don't know if powering down the ISY is hard on it, but maybe I should try bumping up my 7 minutes to 20 minutes to see if that solves the problem. When we are away, if that every happens again with this virus, I would hate to not have the node servers. Notification and Tags are integral to what I am doing now as I suspect they are with you too. I will look at delaying some programs through a folder variable. Lots of stuff that don't need to run right away.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question. I had a power outage yesterday. The ISY restarted but the Polisy did not connect to the ISY. I had to re-enter my credentials and restart my node servers. I sent a Ticket to Michel and based on his analysis, my ISY was busy so the Polisy could not connect. Don't want to add to Michel's workload, so I thought I would post this issue here. I experimented this morning and just powered down the Polisy and it came back up fine. My node servers connected. So if anyone have some thoughts on how I can delay everything that is done at startup of the ISY, so the Polisy can connect first would be appreciated. On my ISY config screen, I have Query at restart checked Wait while busy reading checked I don't want to experiment powering down the ISY if I don't have to, so I thought I would ask the Forum the consequences of unchecking either of these two boxes. One thought I had was put all my folders with programs into one Main Folder with an If on the Folder that has variable that is switched in a few minutes by a program outside of this Main Folder. Not sure if this would help because of the query box checked above. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Note: I have 900 programs and folders, 171 insteon nodes/addresses and 4 node servers based on the ISY Inventory Node Server. Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts

Teken i started down the path this afternoon of exporting a folder with programs that I had already redesigned. As I started to delete programs a folder at a time, I realized I had probably 25 to 30 integer variables that I will probably not use again. So best laid plans, I figured what I have today in new programs is way better than the old so I deleted all the old variables and will not look back. sorry I took up your time with this.

Teken I am bumping up on the 1000 program/folder limitation with the ISY. Since I moved over my x10 devices 7 years ago and since then migrated to Insteon, I have vastly improved my programing skills due to this forum and especially lately from Mr. Bill. What I want to do is rewrite/start over and was considering how I might do that and still remain under the program limitations of the ISY. That was the purpose of my question regarding the export and import options. Basically to give me some room to reprogram, should I export a folder from the ISY and then delete that folder. But if I should run into a problem, I could import that folder back into the ISY if I needed to. Mr. Bill, over the past month, has taught me how to optimize the use of State Variables which greatly reduced the number of programs I had written using integer variables to perform the same logic. So hopefully this provides some clarity as to the reason for my question. Thanks again.

Teken thank you. You have given me something to think about

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the export and import commands in the ISY. In particular, if I exported a folder with a large number of programs, deleted those programs from the ISY and imported them back into the ISY in say 6 months, would I have any issues. I will make some assumptions below to help with an answer if anyone has had this experience. I am trying to clean up and improve upon what I have learned in the past 7 years. Most likely, I would never import the programs back, but I thought I would use this option if it does not cause more issues than it helps. Thanks in advance if anyone can let me know their experience. Assumptions: I do not delete any variables I do not delete any devices but I may use the ISY replace command to replace a failed device. I add new devices I do add more programs and more variables, more customized emails, network resource screens, node servers and anything else one could do in that 6 month period. Thank You

A little more explanation. I removed my SD card from the ISY and copied the files to my PC. I then formatted a new and larger SD card on my PC and then copied the previously copied files to this larger card. I have been running like this for 3 years or so. My backups after doing this were in the range of 5MB. Based on what I have learned recently, backup files sizes should be measured in KB rather than MB. I am running just fine now after Michel fixed my card. He removed some Windows files that were written to the card when I formatted and copied the files back to the new card. My backup now is 310kb rather than 5MB. My question to the Teken, if he was able to remember, was how large his backups were, since as I understand what he did, he could not follow the Wiki Process for replacing a corrupted SD card. More curiosity than anything since I running fine now. Lesson Learned: Follow the Wiki when you want to replace your SD card on the ISY. Just copying your old SD card to your PC and then copying those files back to a new card will just cause you problems in the future. Can't say enough about the support I got from Michel. I was responsible for Customer Service in my past life and he understands exceeding Customer Expectations.

Teken i recently had an issue with a corrupt backup. I know this is an old post but if you see this could you let me know how big your new backup file is after you copied the files to your new sd card. I ended up with a corrupt backup with a file size of 5MB but what I did may not have been the same process you followed. Thanks Note. I did not follow the Wiki and got myself in trouble.

Exiting Insteon ISY User looking for Z-wave recommendation
LarryCRetired replied to Zippy's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
I have a Zerox box overflowing with x10 devices. I am hoping that some home automation museum will want to display sometime. ? Whenever I run across that box it reminders me of a Star Trek moviie where Bones and crew go back in time and he is in a hospital. Sees this lady going into surgery and heals her with his tricorder. How barbaric he mutters. -
larryllix Mr Bill has been helping me directly. I am using the value of two because I was trying to limit my notifications. Mr Bill worked out an elegant process to use a state variable which increments and the when it reaches two, resets my counters after an hours wait. My previous experience has been mainly with integers. I think I saw where you have upwards of five hundred. I just have half as many.
-
Mr. Bill. Thank you. I never thought of using a state variable. The variable will not change once it reaches two so the simplest method works. I will start fresh in the morning and change my variable to a state variable. Sometimes you get so involved in thinking one way that you miss other alternatives. As I am writing this I see how easy and effective this will be. Thank you.

I have Spent a good part of this afternoon trying to see if this is possible. This is my problem. I have 10 programs that can update the same integer variable. What I want to do is reset this integer variable back to 0, one hour after this variable equals 2. So I was thinking I could accomplish this one of two ways. I am running Firmware 5.3 A. Reset the variable with a program that runs based on the last time one of these ten programs have run, or B. Reset the variable back to 0 with a program that runs every hour. This is easily done but puts some error in the purpose but I may have to do it this way. Or C. Reset the variable based on the last time it was equal to 2. I don't think it is possible to do it with option C. I have searched the drop downs and I cannot find a way to do this checking when the last time a program has run. I thought I had done something like this in the past. Background, I have 10 motion detectors that each have a program that updates this variable. These programs send an email notification that there is motion but I only want two emails for any activity around these 10 motion detectors. But after a time delay I want to set the variable back to 0. Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions Thanks Note: I am always feeling like I am always asking but unfortunately my technical skills and programming is pretty limited to provide much help to others
