we need more information. If your away, why would you care if a light bulb blew unless they are exterior security lights?
-
Good question but why? If you have access to e-mail, don't you have access to your admin page?

A customer asked me a question that I don't have the answer... He said that Charter changes his router IP address from time to time. He feels that it will mess up remote access to the ISY. I was thinking that it didn't matter if the Charter modem IP address changed. Whats the right answer???

My response is: Why do it? If the electrician is running a new 220v circuit just to add a phase coupler and then running a new 110v downstream off of one leg of the 220, why not just put the phase coupler on the 220 breaker in the panel and run a fresh 110 circuit for the PLM on it's OWN 15 amp breaker? BTW - licensed electrician here - I guess "Safe" is a matter of opinion.

I would NOT put a 120 outlet downstream of a 220 outlet. It is dangerous and the two pole breaker would not necessarily trip if the 120 outlet shorts out. My house has two sub panels. Regardless of how many sub panels you have, you still only have two phases, A & B. I put my PLM and one access point on a circuit from one panel and the second access point on the other phase on a circuit from the other panel. No issues. I wouldn't buy a phase coupler until you try two access points first.

hmmm, I suppose it would work if you could read the current setpoint and add one degree each time you trigger the program.

I control mine with one weekend and two weekday programs. They are all the following structure: If time of day is between x and y On a b c d e days then set temp to a else set temp to b At my business, I linked the t-stat to the light switch, lights on = heat, lights off = setback. My next step at home is to do the same at my entry KPL.

I would rather see it modified to allow us to enter a wattage value for each device. I could them poll for the kilowatts each device is using. I know it would be some what a guess on watts for some circuits, like dimmers.

Correct me if I am wrong but they ALL require the networking module if you are intending to access them from afar. The difference is the speed that the commands come back. From outside your local network, there is a longer latency with the web based products. One other thing to consider is a common look and feel. With the web based products the user has a consistent interface via web or iphone.

Thanks. I guess I would rather have them accept the certificate than open up port 80.

As an installer of ISY systems, I would like to set up a link on my website to allow customers to access our shop's system. I have it running now but it requires the certificate and a username/password. Has anyone else done this and are there any tricks to avoid the certificate message? Is there a trick to giving them access to the isyajax web page but NOT the admin?

After adding UPS freight, it's $111 vs $118 for a T1800 significant? (your choice of words) not to me considering the possible hassle of returns and unknown support BTW - the adapter you refer to is not the insteon adapter

I messed around and discovered that I can add exactly two lines of e-mail notifications. The third will not stick as reported above. T-stats - I didn't delete and reinstall mine. They seem to be responding fine. Should I leave them alone? I was running 2.7.7 beta when i added them a few weeks ago.

I'm in the same boat. Where is the link?
-
my notes say to air gap it for 15 sec and then hold down set button for 10 sec.
-
You don't have to hold it in 3 seconds to power it back up. Just push in the airgap button and it will come back to life after a couple of seconds. Then, you can do a link one of two ways, push in the set button for 3 seconds or hold the paddle for 10 seconds.

As requested, here is a quick tutorial to have notifications from your devices post to your Facebook wall. Step 1 - From your facebook page, click on "Settings" Step 2 - Click on the "Mobile" tab Step 3 - Ignore the instructions to activate a phone and simply click on "Go to Facebook Mobile" in the upper right corner of the page. Step 4 - On the mobile page click on the page to send your facebook email to your regular email box (or just write it down). Step 5 - Add your facebook email to you notifications list in your ISY and create programs to send notifications. See instructions elsewhere to create notifications if you haven't done so already. The optional network module is also required. I played with the name of my program that sends the message. The name of your program in your ISY becomes the subject and message in your facebook post. Have fun.

That's great news. Do you have a guesstimate date for 2.8? Can you comment on the validity of my proposed program to switch it off after switching it on to test if it is responsive? Will it work?

Thanks for all the replies! Yes, we melt a lot of snow and ice up here. I regularly install multiple 220v 20 amp circuits on a single house. It's like running your dryer and over around the clock but the alternative roof damage and leaks are much worse. Now I've given away my secret as to why this circuit will be popular for vacation home owners. Last year, I installed 14 systems on the roof of a condo complex in Kirkwood. The resort is so remote they run on generator power year round and charge the residents 50 cents a kw/hour for power! It's easy being green when you pay 5o cents for power. kclark, The ezswitch30 is an insteon device so I can already tell that it's not responding but that's not good enough for customers. Is there a way to write better code like I noted above? Is there a way to write a set of programs such that once it's turned ON, a sub program runs to turn it off and check status. Then, notify me if the off command returns an ON status. If the off status returns an OFF status, turn it back on. It's clunky but at least it would be a test of response. I could repeat that OFF ON subprogram every hour to test it. I know it runs the ezswitch contacts over and over but it's better than no heat tape. TJF, Thanks for the idea. However, I have an IOlinc and some ct's from brultech but when I put all of those items together, the cost is too high and it seems too complicated. Michel, "Condition test for communications errors is on our list". Does that mean it's available now or it's on the list of future enhancements? Thanks again everyone. I could use some help quickly on the programming.

I just tried it at home and you're right, it reports the last state before failure. I tried to write a query program to start queries if the switch is on and repeat every 30 minutes. I added a second program to notify all if a query reported back as OFF but it's the same issue - no response at all so it is still reporting ON even though the breaker is tripped. I'm stuck - anyone have a solution?
-
I am planning to use the ezswitch30 to control roof heat tape to melt ice. The problem is that heat tape will sometimes trip the GFI breaker when energized due to the initial power surge. If I install the ezswitch30 downstream of the breaker, is there a way to have it send a notification if it loses power? Would a query return "OFF" when it was called to be "ON". Now that I think about it, could I test this on almost any insteon device by pulling the power and then sending a "ON" command? hmmm...

Swap is free IF you purchased them within 90 days. Sorry, forgot that catch.

The swap is free. I called today and swapped mine out for no charge.
