  1. Looks promising. I’ve got an odroid device laying around. It runs most RPI stuff, so it will probably run this. Does it have the compile commands built into the package like many programs do? Question: Will I be able to use Google Home to open/close the door and use the ISY/polygot to use IFTTT to send SMS messages letting me know my door has been opened for say 10 minutes?
  2. What is Polygot? Is that available through the ISY or some other hub?
  3. I just ordered this IoT window/door contact sensor which I’m going to use with a Sonoff WiFi switch to control my garage door. I got a new garage door opener with MyQ technology, but they don’t allow you to open the door with it, which is a downgrade over my Insteon setup. I probably could have use my Insteon device to control things, but I took it down after the new opener went in because it wasn’t working. I’m planning on using the WiFi switch (on order) with a remote control where I soldered wires to the contacts of a button on the remote. I tried hard wiring into the opener itself, but I couldn’t figure it out. This is a cheap and simple workaround. I’ll use it with the contact sensor to determine when the door is open/closed. The MyQ system does have this feature, but they charge you a fee for using IFTTT which annoys me.
  4. I have a Insteon garage door kit, but my old garage door opener broke. My new one is a LiftMaster with built in Wifi, the only problem with it is that it doesn’t work with Google Home, etc. to send “open” commands. I found some instructions on using a $6 ewelink switch which lets you use Google Home to send a signal to the garage door. They spliced in the ewelink to the button on the garage door to get it working. The ewelink switch uses inching, which I assume means it sends a brief signal, like pressing a doorbell. Since I already have the Insteon switch, does anyone know if this will work?
  5. I unlinked and linked again and my shortcuts stayed. Yay! Where is this download button you speak of? In the portal? I dumped my echos because I don’t like the AI. All in for google at this point.
  6. I added a new device in the portal. How do I add that to my google home account? Do I have to unlink then link again? Will that mess up my shortcuts or other settings?
  7. I’m trying to create an event log that will record the date/time a specific motion sensor is tripped, regardless of the sensor’s timeout setting. I’d like to know when an event “starts”, as determined by the first “on” event, when it is extended (by the next motion without an intervening “off” event) and the event ends (sensor goes off). Any ideas on how I could throw this together? Any technology is fine, including IFTTT.
  8. Can you share your program? I must admit, the ISY programming scheme is counterintuitive.
  9. Oh... is V5 stable? I looked for a link to install it but couldn’t find anything
  10. What’s V5? I just ordered a new on/off paddle switch for the fan, and the V2 motion sensor. I’ll try and do the same thing with writing a program for the ISY.
  11. Can the Insteon 2 motion sensor be configured with the ISY?
  12. We’ve got a problem in our house, and her name is Penny. Penny is the sweetest cat in the world, but there seems to be an inverse square ratio to sweetness to stink. Because when she takes a dump, the 1st floor of the house smells for hours, and I’m not exaggerating. Her litter box is in an unused bathroom on the first floor and I would like to have the fan turn on for 15 minutes after it senses motion to help make her perfume exit the house. But all of the motion sensors I see all claim they are pet immune, when I specifically want to detect the animal. I was hoping to find a switch with motion sensor that I could replace the fan switch with and have that work, but I fear it won’t pick her up. If I have to, I’ll go through the expense of installing an Insteon switch and use that with an external sensor, but I’m still having the issue of getting a sensor that works for 10lb cats. Any advice? It’s getting warm and the problem is only going to get worse.
  13. Michel, Could you please unpin some of the older update stickies from the forum? Ones from two years ago are probably stale by now
  14. I’ve looked, but didn’t see any examples of wire tape. Got lots of images of women in bras, so it wasn’t a wasted search.
  15. Wood floors with wood trim.
  16. I want to run some wire along the baseboard that will be connected to a low voltage Insteon relay (2450). Obviously I want it to make it look as hidden as possible. Any suggestions? Most of the stuff I’ve seen has white lettering on the cable and I’d prefer not to have to use a sharpie to black it out.
  17. My fireplace came with an RC remote control and receiver. I disconnected the two wires that went into the receiver and when I manually shorted them the fireplace turned on, and when separating them it turned off. So I plugged in an Insteon 2450 in an outlet near the fireplace and connected that to the two wires using a thin gauge pair of wires taped along the baseboard. Since I have the ISY portal running.... Hey Google, turn on the fireplace. FWOOOOMFFF! I think the cats are trying to learn how to speak now.
  18. Does anyone know if there is a wireless (low voltage) relay that will work with the ISY? Like an Insteon battery powered device that will latch on and off? I have an application where I don’t want to run wires.
  19. Everything was working up until yesterday, now the ISY says it is registered, but offline. Refresh and rebooting doesn't fix it. My network is working fine. Any suggestions? When I try to synch with the time server I'm getting the following popup
  20. I have an Insteon relay that can monitor and control my garage. In addition the ISY, I also have in my home network a Nest themostat and several google home speakers. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZZQY8I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_shAkAbN2F9ZWW I’d like a program that will trigger under the following conditons: The Nest thermostat is set to AWAY and the Garage relay just triggered “open” And the action would be to turn on some lights, and have Google Home start playing music on one of my google home speaker (or better yet, a Google Home “speaker group”) Is there a way of doing this? Can the ISY or IFTTT make music play on speakers? And the second program would be: The Nest thermostat is set to AWAY and the Garage relay just triggered “open” AND the temperature on the Nest thermostat is less than 67 degrees. The action would be the same as the one above (lights and music) but it will execute a scene I currently have (it turns on the fireplace for 10 mins) This is what a smarthome should be like.
  21. Does anyone know if this has ever worked (assigning ISY items on the portal to Google “rooms”) before? Michel says Benoit has answered this question, but I can’t find his response.
  22. I found this GH Mini mount and ordered some via a 3D printing service. I then used my alarm wiring to power the mini. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2576121 Ordering Google to open the garage with my arms full is a god-send.
  23. I’ll be honest that I’m very disappointed with Google with the portal. It’s much slower than Alexa. Especially if you are sending multiple commands. Like Alexa turn on lights <pause> Alexa turn off lights. Google seems to take longer to send the command, and then it requires a longer pause than Alexa does. I doubt this is has to do with the portal itself and how Google is sending commands to the portal. Also, Alexa picks up sounds better. I have one echo and google home mini right next to each other and the echo works about 90% of the time and the mini about 75%. What are your observations? Maybe it has to do with “Ok Google” is one more syllable than “Alexa”. I know “Hey Google” also works, but it doesn’t seem to work as well as “Ok Google”. The only reason I wanted to switch was the Google AI is “smarter”, but if it doesn’t listen to you as well, what’s the point? Hopefully Google will let you change the trigger phrase soon. What are your observations?
  24. Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? I was able to train GH for my voice, and for my wife I setup a google account for her and linked it to GH. She was able to train it to her voice. I also set her AI to use the “male” voice so that we can tell which account GH is responding too. However I noticed that I had train each device. I noticed this because one of the GH responded to her with the female voice instead. These seems counter-intuitive, as you should only have to train once for all devices. Perhaps there is a good reason why it’s on a per-device basis, but I’d like to know the reason why.
  25. Apparently this might have been a bug introduced in a September Google Home update. Does anyone know if assigning rooms from the ISY Portal ever set them on Google Home when linking?
