  1. I have the ISY 99i IR which is mounted in my structured wiring cabinet at the back of my theater and I have the theater's URC remote system hooked into the IR receiver and it works like a dream. So the other night I was thinking how great it would be to be able to run Scenes from my bedroom URC remote. The problem is, the bedroom is too far from the ISY to make an IR run and besides, I think it would be tricky to have two IR blasters stuck to the IR receiver of the ISY. Is there another way to have an IR blaster run an Insteon Scene? Is there a stand alone IR receiver that I can either plug into a wall receptor or maybe an IR receiver that sends an RF command that one of the Insteon RF devices would receive? Maybe UD could make a stand alone IR receiver that communicates with the ISY through networking (which would be the most stable). That way, I could use all my house remotes as Scene controllers!!
  2. There are two devices in the 2 gang box. One is a KPL Relay v3.6 and the other is a Switchlinc Relay v3.8. It's always those two devices that give me trouble. Is there a way to trouble shoot the wiring in the box? I'm certain that's where the problem is because the remaining 60 devices are very stable. I know I have a whole house full of CFL's but I've got the system rock solid with very few issues.
  3. I've done some further investigation and this is what I'm finding. When I run a Scene from the Mobilinc, it will transmit the request and then it seems that all of the Devices in the Scene will respond correctly except two. The KPL and a Switchlinc Relay. Its interesting that both Devices are in the same gang box. What I learned is that the Mobilinc thinks all the Devices have responded (even the ones that didn't). When I query the Device (from the Mobilinc) that didn't respond, I get an error that the request has timed out. Once I cycle the Scene from the KPL, everything straightens out again. I did test out running Scenes from my remote computer using the Admin panel of the ISY and I don't experience any errors, for the most part. It seems to be centered around the Mobilinc. I tried increasing the HTTPS timeout and the ACK retries but that didn't help. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
  4. It took over 6 hours in the attic but now I have the 1000w load split into 3 circuits controlled with 3 Switchlinc dimmers. So far, there haven't been any more issues. When I removed the 1000w dimmer (before I changed the wiring), it was so hot, I couldn't hold it in my hand! I had it mounted in a 3 gang box on one end with a blank in the middle. I know I was running max wattage but I don't think it should get that hot!! Now that I've reduced the load of the Switchlinc to about 300w each, they don't get too hot. And I can do all sorts of interesting lighting Scenes that impressed even my wife (who isn't in to all this sort of thing)!!
  5. My ISP is AT&T DSL My router is Netgear DGND3300 router/modem
  6. Thanks. Maybe that will help my internet command (slight) issue!!
  7. Thanks to both of you. I read Wes' response as well. Thinking along the lines that both of you propose, the main difference then would be local infrastructure (either my local network or hard wired controllers like KPL's) vs. remote connections via the internet. I haven't tried using my remote computer at work to see if the lighting is not as responsive as my local network. I will have to investigate that. If I find that the reason for Mobilinc not being as reliable as local sources, how would I go about resolving internet issues?
  8. Actually, it now gets a little more confusing. I decided to delete and then re-add the Scenes (and of course I had to update the programs) and everything works again! Maybe the switch overheating caused a corruption of its internal memory? Last night, I tried to Restore the device but that didn't work but re-writing the Scenes did. Very strange indeed!
  9. "Socket Open Failed javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake" I am doing some programming from a remote computer over the internet using the Admin console. I am behind a firewall but I made sure to open the ports I use for the ISY.
  10. I thought I finally had my system completely error free when I ran into this problem. To be fair, I have to give some backround. I am currently running two switchlincs for my theater scenes so it is very basic. One of the devices is a standard Switchlinc dimmer, the other is a 1000w Switchlinc dimmer. The 1000w dimmer controls 1000w total so it is at max wattage. I have the two Switchlincs mounted in a 3 gang box with a blank plate in the middle to get a little more heat dissipation. Last night, none of my theater Scenes would run so I started trouble shooting. I trigger the Scenes with my URC remote's ir blaster. The ISY is getting the command because the front lights show activity. Then I checked the Scene programming in the Admin console and found the 1000w Switchlinc set to 9m ramp rate on all of the Scenes. When I tried to change it to a different rate, I got an error message, "Request Failed". The device works fine locally (at the switch) and uses the specified ramp rate that I programmed initially but all of the Scenes have the same ramp rate (9m) and can't be changed and won't run. I fear that I've overheated the Switchlinc even though I was very careful to ventilate the switch and not exceed its rating. Any thoughts?
  11. I know this doesn't really belong here but maybe someone else has experience with this iPhone app and can help. When I control my Scenes from local devices or my computer's Admin console, my Scenes run flawlessly. When I run my Scenes from my iPhone app, I get mixed results. If I send the same command three or four times, it eventually gets all the devices but the first time I send a command, most but not all of the devices respond. Is there a difference in how the Mobilinc sends commands? I can't figure out why it is so different. The way I understand the app, it merely sends a command to change the Scene's status and the ISY does the rest but why is it so error prone? I plan on posting this to the Mobilinc forum as well, hopefully I will get a full understanding of the differences between using a direct computer interface (the Admin console) and using a 3rd party app.
  12. Sorry, I meant to say, I'm using the Switchlinc Relay!!!
  13. Since I'm not an electrician, I have to ask. Wouldn't it be nice if there were an inline filter for CFL circuits? I have one outdoor circuit that is controlled by a Switchlinc dimmer. When the circuit is On, I have some occasional reliability issues. When the circuit is Off, my system is completely stable. Is it worthwile to figure out to put a filter inline?

    KPL response

I almost have my whole system figured out. I have one problem though. On my KPL 6 button relay v.36 when I change the status of the main group (the load) with my mobilinc app, the KPL button doesn't change to the on button. It stays on the Off button. Do I need to write a program to change the KPL button status?
  15. Mine installed fine from a remote computer. I didn't read the thread before I updated. I'm glad it worked though!
  16. I didn't know that! Is that because of heat? But other than that, I can't see any reason why I would use an Inlinelinc over a Switchlinc dimmer.
  17. I have six overhead fixtures in my theater and want to control them in three pairs, so I would use three devices. I plan on installing the devices in the attic above the theater. I thought I would just get three Inlinelincs but they are the same price as Switchlinc dimmer's and the dimmers can handle twice the wattage as the Inlinelincs. Is there a reason why I shouldn't use the dimmers instead of the inline units?
  18. Well, I have to say that since I've begun my migration from x-10 to Insteon, I am blown away by how good Insteon and the ISY is. With x-10 I had to come up with all these schemes (not Scenes) to get the lighting in my theater to just get to the levels that I wanted and half the time, it didn't work. With the ISY and Insteon, I just create a Scene, and it works every time! Also, I can just sit at my computer and figure out exactly what level works best! I use URC's MC 400 and MX 950 to run my theater and the ISY integrated seemlessly. I am officially a FANBOY!!! TWO BIG THUMBS UP FOR THE ISY99!!!!
  19. That absolutely worked!! And best, its much easier. I only have one additional question (for now!), if I create a Scene that turns lights On, do I have to write another Scene to turn them Off? Or can I just run a program that sets the Scene to Off?
  20. I am now starting to create Scenes to use in my home theater. I thought I could just write a simple program to control a Scene but it isn't working so maybe a little guidance will get me going. What I did was create a very simple Scene. It only has two devices and both are responders (since I plan on using my URC remote to trigger the Scene). So let's call the Devices Ceiling and Sconce. Then I created a program to dim the lights for movies. This is how I programmed it: Except when I try to run it, nothing happens. I've even tried to run it from the Admin console using the Run Then command. Nothing! I'm sure its a simple fix and once I understand how this programming works, I should be fine. Thanks!
  21. If I were to replace my ISY/PLM what steps and in which order would I proceed. I checked the Wiki but couldn't find a clear explanation. TIA!
  22. Thanks Michel. Most likely it was our firewall. We try to keep our exposure as small as possible.

    KPL question

Trouble shooting can be fun. I like it alot more than x-10 which used to drive me absolutely crazy! I think I am going to replace the PLM. Also, I am in the process of replacing six of my devices with current versions so I think I should wait until I do those changes before I keep trying to fix everything. However, for this question, I realized that the only issue I have with the KPL and Scenes is related to the Mobilinc iPhone app. Apparently, it doesn't list the KPL button in the Scene unless it is the Load switch. I will move this topic to the Mobilinc forum!
  24. Yes, I am connected. In fact, I was in a remote location when I got the message. But I am at home now, and did not get the message when I opened the Admin console. BTW, I am using 2.7.12.
  25. I now see this when I log into my ISY admin. Any clues?
