I got the keypad corrected from acting as 6 button to 8 button, but when I click restore it says it can't communicate with it. Thoughts?

I thought I had my problem solved connecting with my Macbook Pro by using Firefox. But this evening I am getting an error when trying to connect. The admin window comes up but 2 errors pop up and no login window. First error is an XML Parse Error http://(location number here)/desc. Under that is another window error with Socket Open Failed java.net.SocketTimeoutException. What in the world are these? I was able to connect just 5 hours ago. Ugh!

After a recent power outage, I have slowly been working thru issues this caused with some of our switches. We have an 8 button KPL (2486D v.29) that seemed dead after the outage. However, after shutting down power to the switch and turning back on seems to have brought power back to the switch. Now though it is acting as a 6 button switch instead of an 8 button switch and none of the buttons seem to control anything. How can I restore it to an 8 button switch and restore all the buttons to control what they were previously linked to? Thanks!

I don't think I am understanding. There is a button on the keypad that is linked to the mbath.fan and mbath.shower if I understand the scenario below correctly. If I am wanting to take out the mbath.shower switch and replace it with a new switch I have added (can't just use replace as old was dimmer and new is not), how do I do this? Probably this is simple but this newbie to programming is confused! main:mbath.kpd.shwrlite/fan Is Controller for Link:main.mbath.shwer/fan main:mbath.fan.L main.mbath.shower.L

That seems pretty easy from what I can see. The old switch is also in a link for a button a 6 button pad. How do I remove the old switch from that link and add the new switch into it? And am still wondering if that old switch(2876DB vs 12) is known defective and if Smarthome would replace it. They have replaced defective switches before for me.

I have replaced switches before with the ISY99i and now have the ISY994i. I am replacing an old 2876DB v12 switch(and by the way - is this a know defective one that could be under warranty) with a 2477S rev 6.7 switch. The switch works, and shows up in ISY as new switch, but can't find it in list when I go to replace old switch. Is the old one a dimmer switch and the new one not? If so, does this mean I would have to reprogram any links or scenes since I can't easily swap? This system was in place with the home we purchased and successfully replaced under warranty many, many switches in 2011 from original installation that were known to be defective, but I have not done much with links or scenes. Any advice is much appreciated! Hate to have to go out and buy another new dimmer switch as I don't really need the dimmer on this one.

Any chance of getting my question answered re how to add a switchlinc to a button on the 8 button pad that already has some others linked to it? I assume this is a "scene?" Several switches control different lights in the kitchen and that one button should be set up to turn on all kitchen lights. However, the switch that went bad and is replaced is now not in the scene. How do I add it?

I am not going to touch anything else until I get some input. I had one old switch that was not working the way it should. I just clicked on the switch and then clicked restore device. Once again, the system is now rewriting to all devices. Praying everything is still working after this! Not sure at all what is going on. Update: Really weird! The system did rewrite the 8 button switch correctly so now that is working! I did not tell it to do anything other than trying to restore a completely different switch. The other new switchlinc I added that controls 2 bar lights in the kitchen though still did not get links copied to it. It works, but it was linked to a button on our 8 button kitchen that turned on all the kitchen lights. Maybe someone can explain how to link this switchlinc so it also operates when the button on the 8 button pad is pressed to turn on all kitchen lights.

]I am just now getting back to this and really hope I can get things up and running the way they were before. I am still not familiar at all with some of the lingo used here, so please tell me what KPL stands for. I clicked on the 8 button old switch and selected Replace with the new 8 button switch. Both switches showed up immediately after, but now I am only seeing the new switch. The buttons in the programming are named correctly so it appears that switched over, but the buttons are not functioning except for the load, and it is not linked with the slave. Also, I had not added a second switchlinc because the ISY99i wouldn't let me. However, after attempting to replace the old 8 button switch and the system did something weird and acted like it was rewriting every switch in the system, the new switchlinc now shows up and I have lost the old links now. Not sure what to do. I still have the backup file from when we just switched over from ISY99i to ISY994i. Do I need to resort to clicking Restore ISY from this backup file to get everything back and then try again to add the new switches? When it is trying to restore, will it recognize there are new switches without me adding them because that is what is appears it did? The about displays Firware Insteon_UD994 v.4.0.5 and the UI is Insteon_UD v.4.0.11 Thanks for any assistance you can give me. Julie

We recently upgraded from ISY99i to ISY994i with the great help from tech support here. I had an 8 button switch(keypadlinc dimmer v.29) in the old system that went bad. I replaced it with a new switch (8 button keypadlinc dimmer 8 button v.43) and did the usual....added the new switch and then clicked replace with on the old one with new one. Perhaps I did something wrong, but the replacement process did not work. It appeared to be making the change, and the program shut down as expected when finished, but nada. The old switch still shows in the list with appropriate button links, and the new switch also shows up but no button links working. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? Also, I got really worried as one the system attempted to write the links to the new switch it also went through the whole system rewriting links to all switches. Everything appears to be working with other switches so not sure what happened!

Didn't have time to do much with this last evening and will be out of town over the weekend. May be next week before I get back to this. Will definitely keep you updated! Julie

I started with the old and right clicked to replace with the new one. It went through the motions but now still shows the old switch with the new one nowhere to be found.
-
Perfect! Check the address - that should be the new one - looks like the replace worked as it should have. -Xathros EDIT: The above reply was to your previous post. I suspect you have an ISY-99, in that case, you want Firmware version 3.3.10 as that is the latest and final version for the 99. At some point, you may need to upgrade to a ISY-994 for support of newer devices as the 99 has reached its end due to insufficent space for larger firmwares. Ver 3.3.10 should work with your new Switchlinc Dimmers but will not work with the latest Keypadlincs that are shipping now. What progress bar are you referring to? The download or the install ? -Xathros

?? No that's not perfect. I think you misunderstood me. The old one should be gone with the new one there. I was saying the old switch that doesn't work still shows up in the software with the old address. The software recognized the new switch but when told to replace it went through the motions but did not actually do it. The old switch is still listed and the NEW one disappeared!
-
It just shows the old one still and the new one I added disappeared. I'm trying to update the firmware now as I realize it is 2.7.0 so might be an issue. However, for an hour the status bar shows 0% progress. Thoughts?
-
No to all of the above. Never had an issue with slow responses. All was working fine. Just replacing 2 switches.
-
I just tried your advice and used your Start Linking steps. The new device did show up so I right clicked the old device and selected replace with the new device. It went through a bunch of steps showing progress being made, but it never replaced the switch! Advice?
-
But that is my issue is that the Add New Device does not seem to have the device showing up in the list anywhere when I right click the old one to replace with.... I am not seeing the device in the list so used Auto Discover as told to do before. I am replacing a Swithlinc dimmer and a Keypadlinc dimmer with the same devices I just ordered. I am guessing my version of the ISY firmware is an older one but not sure how to find which one it is. I don't think we have ever updated it nor do we know how. Julie

Thanks for the response. Is having to do the start linking from ISY menu different from before? If you read thru the posts above, when I replaced at least 40 switches before, I only had to choose Add New Insteon Device and didn't go thru the "Select Start Linking...." steps you are talking about. Julie

Hi, I am trying to replace a couple of switches with ISY 99 and had success doing this before with a huge batch that were defective. This time when I click to add New Insteon Device and type in the new device I am not getting it to show up anywhere with Auto Discover. Am I doing something wrong? Before I can't remember if I got a response from the software when I added the device but do remember when I went to the old device and right clicked "replace with" the device showed up. Thanks for the input! Julie

Thanks for the suggestions. It may be a few days before I have the chance to mess much with this but will certainly try and let you know what happens. I must say I am always fearful of disconnecting things as I have a great fear of losing all programming and having none of the lights in my house working. Should I not be worried about this by Remove power from both the XEP and the ISY? Thanks!

I forgot to add that when we access the ELK account through the computer there are rules that were set up by the original owner that among many other rules relate the motion sensor to the lighting. These rules are still active so nothing was changed there. We are able to see this programming and connect to the ELK system.
-
I am positive we have that module though it does not appear in the product section under help as you described. The communication between the hallway motion detector and lighting system was working when we moved in. That's why I suspect the two are not communicating as they were before. Here's what happens that better describes the "screen jumping: The ISY configuration screen is fine when I first open it with M1XEP info left blank or incorrect. When I type in the ElK IP address and port on that page and hit save another line appears below sunrise/sunset times with a spot for the security code, button for arm away, arm stay, disarm, and go to ELK console. This line though appears and disappears very rapidiy causing the screen to move up and down about a line thus "jumping." It only stops when I remove the M1EXP info. I know that there was ISY info in the M1EXP space before, but the M1EXP address changed at some point either when we replaced our router or during a couple of major power outages. Sorry if I am not communicating this information with the proper lingo. We still consider ourselves newbies with all of this, but are learning. We had a huge number of defective light switches we had to replace about a year ago and were thrilled to figure out all the programming to get those up and running in the ISY system. Now we are just hoping to get back some of the features we loved that don't work as they did when we moved in. Thanks for any advice you can give!
-
We purchased our home with both the ISY and ELK already installed and have worked to understand how these work. Upon moving in we loved the programming that had been done so that when an upstairs motion detector sensed a path of lights to the master bedroom came on. Somehow that seems to not be working now and am guessing the two systems are not communicating with each other. I can see in the ISY Admin Console configuration tab that there is a spot to enter the IP address, Port, and security code. However, once I enter the correct info and save, the ISY program begins to jump on the screen. Can anyone give me some advice to get these the ISY and ELK communicating again? Thanks!

Yes, the 40 that I replaced were due to switch failure. The majority were 2876DB switches REV 1.2 with some 2476 D 3.1 and some 2486D 1.4. We purchased the home with this system/switches already installed. We had no idea what was going on as switches gradually just started to randomly not work sometimes or failed completely. Found out about the extended warranty and Smarthome was very nice and replaced them all. It was not fun going around and putting them all in, but we made it!
