  1. Michel, I won't rule out a power outage, but I have no other signs in my house that it did occur. I guess the part that is hard to understand is this. If From Sunset To 10:00:00PM (same day) Then Set Scene 'XMas Lights' On Else Set Scene 'XMas Lights' Off If the ISY reboots at 9 minutes after midnight, shouldn't the code above run that same day? I don't understand why it would need to wait until the next day to run. As for run at start up, I don't have any of my programs set to do that. Maybe I need to be pointed to the right location to understand what that feature will do for me. Thanks for the help. Steve

    Log question

Yesterday I had an issue where my Xmas light program did not run. I looked in the log file to see if I could figure out what happened. Here is what showed up in the log file. I am running 2.6.8 in my ISY. What you will see is that on the 19th the system shut down my XMas light scene. Then at 12:09 it ran into a time server issue, then who knows what happened. 3. 2.6.11 seemed to hose my system up. I have a remotelinc that failed to work after the update. I tried to restore it. I tried removing it from the system and then putting it back in. It would put it back in the system but I couldn't manage to get it to link to the scenes I was previously using. My motion detector also stopped reporting. I didn't fool with that though. I downgraded back to 2.6.8 and restored by ISY and devices. My remotelinc was still hosed up. So I had to remove the buttons from each scene and put them back in. And they are working now. The install of 2.6.11 wend flawlessly, just that the motion sensor and the remotelinc stopped working. I didn't write it down, but I think the motion sensor reported at a V.00 unsupported device.
  4. This is what I get when going to the devices tab. The webpage at http://192.168.168.98/devices might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. More information on this error Below is the original error message Error 320 (net::ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE): Unknown error. This is what I get when going to the scenes tab. More information on this error Below is the original error message Error 320 (net::ERR_INVALID_RESPONSE): Unknown error. And the same thing from the programs tab. The admin console does work though. I have seen it work when going directly to the webpage http://192.168.168.98/pgms And it did work on Google Chrome at 2.6.6.
  5. 2.6.6 worked in Google Chrome, and have not had luck in 2.6.7 with Google Chrome. Just a question about the new adjust scene level feature. If I understand it correctly, the sample program is writing parameters to the actual device. Isn't this a bad thing to keep doing? All of these devices have their info stored in EEPROM. And isn't there a write limit on the EEPROM's in these devices? I work in the energy management field, and this was an important thing to remember about particular points in our controllers. An errant program could actually wipe out an EEPROM with excessive writes. These newer EEPROM's are probably much better than the stuff we used in these older controllers, but just thought I'd check anyway.
  6. Michel, after the upgrade I can save/update programs as well as backup the ISY with everything turned back on.
  7. Michel, Turned off Windows Firewall. Turned off NOD32. Tried it again and everything was OK this time. Thanks for the help.
  8. My home computer only uses the Windows firewall, nothing else. When you use the http://www.universal-devices.com/27 does it do anything different than when you access the system internally? Also, does it make any difference if the device has a static IP address? I can try the update from my laptop if you think that makes a difference. It is using NOD32 Smart Security.
  9. Michel, I did that as well. It did not help. The strange thing, I was worried that the upgrade might have hosed the ISY. So I downloaded 2.6.4 again and tried to update it. I got the same error at the same time. The last thing I tried was to clear out the temp files of Firefox. Then I cleared the Java cache. And tried it again. I even tried clearing out Java and Firefox and using IE7 instead. Still no luck.
  10. ISY-99 IR Pro does not updgrade. I followed you sequence, and when I get to the favicon.ico, it fails and says Upgrade Failed: Invalid Length.

    WLAN?

aLF, when your WLAN light goes out that means that your DSL modem/router is not seeing the Internet, or Wide Area LAN. It could also mean that its locked up. Hence the reason you can't get anything to work on your internal network. And the reason that you have to reboot your ISY. My power is supplied by Florida Flicker and Flash, better known as FP&L, and we have lots of storms here. I was having a problem with my ISY falling off of the network. The ISY would look for a DHCP server to get an address from, and after a few attempts it would give up. I believe this was changed in one of the beta releases to where it would look forever. I also wanted to see my lights from the outside world, and with my router I had to assign an IP address to the ISY so that I could forward from the outside world to it. It sounds like your routers is your culprit. It sounds like you have enough time before you get your fiber optic cable. You need to contact your ISP and get them to replace your modem/router. If you DSL goes down, that would be another time when your WLAN light would not be lit. And even under these circumstances everything on your internal network should still work.
  12. Tracy, did you get this to work to your satisfaction? Or do you still have problems with it? If you still have problems with it, can you explain a little bit more about what switches you are using to control your drape motor. It looks like you are using the switches from a keypadlinc. Are these keypadlincs in different locations? Or, maybe a better way to ask this, are they different keypadlincs?
  13. tcster, If you could give a little bit more info on how your drape motor works, maybe I can take what IndyMike has said and head you off in a direction that might work. If the drapes were half way open, and you were to apply power to the appliancelinc for, let's say 2 minutes. What would happen? Would they continue to open fully, then start to close? Or is there some sort of switch that stops them once they have gone the full direction one way? And once that happens, the next time power is applied they go the other way? In the industry I am in, some people use something called incremental control. It is 2 motors stacked together to open and close something. It's a cheap way to perform analog control. The control doesn't really know exactly where to device is, it just calculates it by time. It knows it takes 90 seconds to open or close what ever you are controlling. The things we use work from 0-100%. So controls calculate where a device should be, and if you tell it to go full open, or full closed, it will drive the amount of time it thinks it needs to go to open of close the device, and then it adds about 10% extra time. Depending on how you tell us these drape motors work, maybe this is something that we could use to make your situation work. You wouldn't have status, but you could program the system to control the drapes and take this into account.
  14. One of mine reports at v.2c and the other reports as v.31. This feature does not work on either of them. I had tried the one in my master bedroom (v.31 relay keypad) last night. I just tried the one in my family room (v.2c dimming keypad) and it didn't work there either. On both keypads, when I check the brightness level the first time, it reports as 63. Smarthome literature shows 32 available levels. I try a level of 10 so that I should be well within the value capable. I do this only to the On/Off button. I see that the brightness can be set on each button. Should I try each button to the same level? I have not tried setting it locally on the switch yet.
  15. I am running 2.6.4 in an ISY-99. I see that the keypadlinc has a setting for variable brightness. And I see that the Smarthome site has info about this as well. I have tried changing the brightness and do not see it working. Is this a feature that has yet to be implemented? Or do I have a problem with my keypad? I have only tried this on one of my keypads, and it is one that I just had to restore, so not sure what to expect out of it.
  16. Sweeet. Thanks for the update on that one.
  17. I have had a few things not work recently and was trying to trouble shoot from the log. I found a switch that was reporting X10 activity, but shouldn't have been. So I used the set button to factory reset it and then used the ISY to restore that device. And the X10 activity in the log file disappeared. I then started having problems with a nighttime fan program. And in the log file I show where it tried to turn on my keypad and it did not seem to work. This is what the log filed showed. (It doesn't show up very well in the posting) INSTEON Device Control Value Time User Log Type MBR KPL Off/On On 255 Sun 06/01/2008 10:00:01 PM Program Log MBR KPL Off/On Sun 06/01/2008 10:00:05 PM System -2 What do the negative numbers in the log type mean? I have a few of these in my log?
  18. d_l, I had to change my setup slightly to get it to work. I tried using port X443 from the outside world and had my router forward it to 443 on the inside. I couldn't get this to work that way. I made the router forward X443 TCP from the outside to 443 on the inside. I also had to have it forward UDP (my ISY port) from the outside directly to the inside. And then it worked. Strange. My router has a setup for Virtual Servers, so you have to tell it exactly what incoming port or port range in TCP or UDP, and where you want it to go. And by that I mean what IP address inside and what port number or range. The only way I would be able to get mine to work with out having the router map port X443 to 443 is to put my ISY in the DMZ. And we don't want to do that.
  19. In this program. If Program 'Pool Pump Schedule' is False And Control 'FR KPL Button C' is switched Fast On Then Wait 30 minutes Run Program 'Pool Pump Override On' (Else Path) Else Set Scene 'FR KPL Button C Scene' Off My 'Pool Pump Schedule' becomes True at 9 am. If, at 9 am when the schedule becomes True, would this program run its Else path?
  20. d_l, that's a good idea about changing the incoming port and sending it to 443 internally. I really didn't think that would work here. We used to do that for some sites that had an internal web server, but the DSL provider would block port 80. Might be a good idea to do that here as well. I have a Sprint card for my laptop. I used that to test the access from the outside world. I thought that https always used 443. It seemed to me at the time that using https://your_dyndns_address:whatever_SSL_port would make it choke. You don't have any problem doing it that way?
  21. I have a Belkin router that has automatic updates to dyndns.org so I decided to play with remote access a little bit. I went to dyndns.org and created a hostname. I setup my router to keep my IP address updated. I wasn't completely sure about the port forwarding. I forwarded the TCP port of my ISY-99 (rev 2.6.4) and this didn't work. So I tried port 80 and that worked, but I got some warnings from the admin console about this not being secure because I was not using SSL. So I tried to fumble through the stuff to manage a ssl certificate. What I saw was that I could no longer access the ISY from my internal network without using https. I was able to get in from the outside world without the ssl warning. I then turned off port 80 and forwarded UDP port (my ISY port) and I could get in without problems. My question is, is there some setup info on this? Should I just be forwarding the UDP port in my router? How secure is this from the outside world? Is the username password screen from the new rev 2.6 login secure? How about the admin console username and password, is that secure? Should I be using SSL? and if so, how about some setup help for that? If I use SSL, does that mean it has to be for inside and outside access? Is there a setup guide, or documentation on how to do this?
  22. Chris, thanks for the explanation of how the ISY handles those situations.
  23. I am looking for info on how the ISY handles program executions. If I have a particular action that I am watching. Let's say, the bedroom light switch is turned off. And I have multiple programs that all have that trigger in them. All of the programs perform multiple different actions on different Insteon devices. How does the ISY handle this? Lets say that when that light is turned off, I have 5 programs that all do something because that has happened. Is there a program execution que that these get put into, and then they execute once there is a chance for them to run? And lets follow that same line of thought. I have not read the Insteon protocol, but I think I have picked up from the forum that there is some sort of Insteon traffic clean up that is done after an Insteon command is sent. Ethernet has CSMA/CD, so this prevents communications from talking over another device talking on the network. The controls that I work on have token passing on the sub lan. The controls I worked on before had a supervisory device that controlled everything. Devices on the sub lan could not talk to each other, only the supervisory controller. And it would que up programs that needed to run. What I am trying to understand is how the ISY and Insteon fit together. I have two virtual 3 way switches that are right next to each other. And my kids love to play with them, and this is what got me started thinking about this. If two people were to turn on these switches at virtually the same time, how would Insteon handle this? Could it handle this? And then throw the ISY into the mix. When these switches get turned on, the ISY has programs that it wants to run based on these switches. Does it just try and jump into the mix and start throwing commands out on the the network? Or does it have the ability to wait its turn? Does the protocol even support this? I was changing one of my programs to do something, and I have seen people putting 1 or 2 second delays in things to make stuff work. It just seems fragile to me. If stuff all tries to talk at once, is there a retry? As I plan more devices, and more things to do, I am just trying to put the pieces together to understand the limitations of what I can do.
  24. I posted this over at the Smarthome forum, but thought the extra coverage wouldn't hurt. I am just trying to get a consensus here. I have togglelincs, so I am not sure if this is different with other switches. How quickly do you have to tap the switch to achieve a double tap, or fast on? Or maybe another question, how slow can you tap them to get a double tap, or fast on? I have two switches in my kitchen that are part of a virtual 3 way. I use the master switch to trigger a program in my ISY. I use this each morning. Sometimes I tap the heck out of the thing and just can't seem to get the double tap. If I turn it off and then try double tapping it back on, this usually works. I have another program for the slave switch. Just tonight my wife mentioned she was not able to get the program to run the last few nights. And of course it worked perfect for me. Just curious what others see, and what I should expect. It's hard to troubleshoot this from the ISY logs because the switches are both already turned on, and the double tap on is what triggers the program to run. And since th switch is already turned on, the ISY does not log a double tap.
  25. Michel, I have several devices on my network, and I don't seem to have any other problems, but like you say, if the ISY gives up trying after 5 minutes, my other devices may just be masking a problem that happens when I'm away. Before I upgrade to 2.6.5, I'll wait to see if this happens again, and then like you mentioned I'll try rebooting my router. But, that won't solve the problem either. If the ISY gives up after 5 tries, then rebooting my router won't correct it because the ISY would have already given up. I'll try going to 2.6.5 and see what happens.
