If you launch the SONOS Controller program on your PC and go to HELP - ABOUT MY SONOS SYSTEM - you will get a listing of all your equipment with it's MAC addresses and ip addresses. This is the easiest way to get the info you need! Dwight

I also use Sonos exclusively in my home. I have figured out enought to control my Sonos the way that I want with the limited 'one-way' communication of the ISY network module. Out of curiosity I did some googling and it looks like with a Mac and iTunes and some Apache web stuff that you can do what you want to do. Please do not ask me more info about it as I do not know but I think these websites explain exactly what you want to do. That is start iTunes playing or stopping a playlist by sending a URL to your Mac while it is on and running the web server software. This is what I found for iTunes on the MAC: http://search.cpan.org/~bdfoy/Apache-iTunes-0.11/lib/iTunes.pm http://www.myths.com/pub/doc/oreilly/other/Mac_OS_X_Hacks/mcosxhks-chp-3-sect-12.html http://www.markburgess.us/browserTunes/ And this one: http://www.whatsmyip.org/lib/itunes-web-remote/ Some of this seems really old but who knows ... Maybe it is still relevant. Please post back if you try any of these ideas and if anything works for you. I do not have a MAC (yet) but that does not mean I am not interested in the results. If your iTunes is on a PC then maybe something like this would help: http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/13/how-to-control-itunes-from-any-web-browser/ Good luck and HAVE FUN! Dwight

Although I do not have any of the Rogers Home Monitoring Equipment, I found this on the web: Hope this helps your decision - personally I would convince my wife that I certainly WAS HANDY and do it yourself with an ELK System - HA! As a side note - I do not have an ELK System either but from what I understand the Elk Gold System is the way to go ... Dwight

My thread I started is here: http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=8634 My needs at the time are explained in the post. It took me a year but I finally got it sorted to do what I wanted it to do. The biggest hurdle I think is the one-way communication of the ISY - you can send out network commands but it cannot receive any replies. For what I needed to do this limitation did not really affect me. But if you have more complicated Sonos needs then this type of communication is not enough. I would like to play with voice announcements but because I have eight Sonos zones in my house the logistics of which ones are grouped and which ones are controllers and what media is queued or playing that would need to be interrupted - well - that is just too much for the ISY as it now stands. You can search for Sonos in the forums and there are a few old threads that supplied me with 'clues' as to what to look for and if you have a defined need then it may be possible to accomplish a task. If you have a simple Sonos setup without numerous zones then automation may be slightly easier. Although this is not my thread it might be all you need to get started: http://forum.universal-devices.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=12758&p=108068&hilit=Sonos#p108068 If there is anything I can do to help you figure something out then please ask away. I am not saying I will have an answer or even be much help but I would still be interested in any outcome you have - positive or not! Dwight

My home experienced its second ALL ON event this morning. It was triggered by me pressing a single wired simple button that activates one of my garage door openers. This caused my second door to open and all of the devices in the house turn on. I have every light and fan in my home installed with an Insteon product so you can imagine the surprise! Steve had called me to mention that it was a PLM event and it appears that way as there is nothing unusual in the ISY logs ... just the 100% events for every device. This is a relatively new PLM as my original suffered the 'dim led' syndrome. Not sure what to do at this point. If this event could happen undetected twice the odds are good it could happen again. The cost to replace a PLM is not cheap either but I guess that is something I am going to have to do AGAIN. Needless to say this is very disappointing for me ... Dwight

Wow snowtech ... That is harsh. If I had a Mac (I don't) and if I used iTunes (I don't) and I knew how to setup and program a webserver on a Mac (I don't) then I would have been more than happy to help you figure out how to get your music to play off a KeypadLinc. That is exactly what I wanted to do with my whole house Sonos almost four years ago ... I waited over a year hoping for someone to help me. Then I just dove into it and read everything I could get my hands on and tried to learn as much as I could. Then I would sit down and I would try and try and try again until I got something that worked for me. I was extremely lucky that people had pieces of my puzzle scattered around the internet that helped me pull my needs all together. Was I disappointed that I did not get much help here? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Not everyone has my setup or is interested in what I did. Did I say I would not share my results because no one helped me? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I was more than happy to share everything that I learned with the board here. This board is a community and it is all built on sharing. I could not have accomplished anything without this board. I frequent this board daily and I learn something every day. I do not post a lot. I don't feel I have much to say. I read your original post. I thought your attempt was great. Unfortunately I had nothing to offer you for help. That does not mean that I would not be interested in your results. There is a lot of information here that although I may never use it I find it very interesting to learn. I guess that is why I enjoy this site and this 'hobby' - there is always so much to learn. This board is 'blessed' with many members that help users over and over again out the the shear pleasure of seeing them learn. I certainly hope that you rethink some of your statements and become another sharing member of this community. Wishing you all the best. Dwight

Got a call from Steve (thanks!) although it seems that it is a very rare set of events in the universe colliding to cause this problem - ha! I am wondering since a garage opening event triggered it for another user as well as me - perhaps there is something to do with 'noise' from the motors that is causing this unlikely event to happen!? I suppose the only way to really know would be to put FilterLincs on the two openers I use and see if there are any strange events happen again (although quite expensive) I did notice a strange thing happen this morning with my opener even with a new SwitchLinc installed last night. The IOLinc and Garage Opener are in the same Duplex Receptacle in the Garage Ceiling (and I have two setups). I have used this setup for quite a while now but only lately experienced problems which I thought was a SwitchLinc Timer I had for the garage ceiling light load. This is my SCENE to turn on my Garage Ceiling Lights: New Garage SwitchLinc (Load) - as Controller (replaced SwitchLinc TIMER that I thought was defective.) Foyer KPL8 Button F (LED) - as Controller Bedroom KPL6 Button D (LED) - as Responder only Then I have a program that activates this scene when the Garage IOLinc detects the door(s) opening. This morning when I opened the Garage Door #1 - the total scene came on and functioned properly (Timed to turn off in 5 minutes) Then when I opened garage Door #2 - only the SwitchLinc of the scene turned on - the KPL's did not turn on. I do not understand how only part of a scene can turn on (and only sometimes). So perhaps that is telling me that the Garage Door Opener Motor is indeed a 'noise maker'? Does anyone have an issue like that? These are your basic Chamberlain Openers from Sears. This is my Garage Ceiling Programs: Garage 1 Light Switch If Control 'Garage / Garage Door #1-Sensor' is switched On And Status 'Garage / Garage Lightswitch' is not On Then Run Program 'Garage Light Timer' (Then Path) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') SAME AS ABOVE FOR DOOR #2 Garage Light Timer - dual purpose use through program or manual activation If Control 'Foyer / Foyer KPL8 / Foyer KPL8.F' is switched On Or Control 'Garage / Garage Lightswitch' is switched On Then Set Scene 'Garage / Garage Ceiling' On Wait 5 minutes Repeat 3 times Set 'Garage / Garage Lightswitch' 50 (Beep Duration) Wait 1 second Repeat 1 times Wait 15 seconds Set Scene 'Garage / Garage Ceiling' Off Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Using this program as a trigger for the scene - how is it possible that the 'load' came on but the KPL's didn't!? Thanks for any help! Dwight

I put in a request with support. Included my contact information and the post here. Thanks for your help! Dwight

I have had my first ALL ON event the other day. Every light on and every fan running. It seemed to be triggered with my one garage door opening. My second garage door opened at the same time which was weird and when I came into the house everything was on and running. Logs on ISY did not show anything strange so I feel it was a PLM event that triggered it. Hopefully this won't occur too often. Dwight

Thanks to all for your input! Dwight

Not trying to hijack this thread but can a CFL cause a problem with communication even if it is not lit (not turned on)!? I am having a few issues where I notice that sometimes 'status' lights are lit on keypads as responders when the main controller did not turn on via a timer/program properly. Dwight

Hmmm .... moved access point closer to the PLM and it linked the problem device on the first try. I will leave the access point there and see what happens to the rest of the system. Will have to read some more to try to understand the role of these access points - I know they bridge the two phases but there has to be more to it than that. I don't quite get something ... I have two Access points and the new PLM is dual-band - nay suggestions for me to make sure I have them setup the best they can be? Dwight Edit: the device is added but the communication is flakey - ISY will say the device is on when it isn't. Have to click it a few times in the Admin Console to get it to respond. More testing needed I guess ...

I have recieved a new PowerLinc Modem (#2413S) Dual Band and I have it installed in my system. Time will tell if I have corrected by intermittent issues. However, I have another problem now - I can't seem to link to one of my units that previously worked!? I deleted the device and I am trying to re-discover it but it won't work. Tried AutoDiscover and model name forced - no luck. Enclosed is the log from the addition attempt - it is an Icon 2876SB (17.CE.EB) - it was in my old sysem and it worked then - hmmmm - any suggestions? is it possible that I am not bridging my power legs? I have tried the four-click set from my two access points and the new PLM and they all glow bright green when I do that ... Thanks for all the help, Dwight Icon SwitchLinc Add Failure.txt

Thank you ... I will post back when I get the new PLM and have it running! Dwight

I am still having issues where things are not happening reliably so I have ordered a new PLM (mine is two years old). Can the forum please direct me to the best way to replace my current PLM? I am not sure if I should do a 'delete PLM' and before I do a 'restore PLM'? Would this be the process? 1. 'Delete PLM' 2. Shut down ISY994i (unplug) 3. Install new PLM 4. Start up ISY994i (plug in) 5. Set 'linking mode' on Motion Sensor, RemoteLincs, MiniRemote, Wireless Open/Close Sensor 5. 'Restore PLM' Thanks for all your help! Dwight

Right - that is what I have now - the PLM is plugged on top of the Filterlinc in the ALWAYS ON plug and the UPS is plugged into the bottom of it ...
-
I was under the impression that if the PLM was plugged into a FilterLinc then that could eliminate any issues with a nearby UPS unit!? If the end result is that the PLM will ONLY communicate by RF then I will certainly remove it - that was NOT what I thought it would do - I thought it would 'clean-up' any powerline noise that may be caused by a UPS - and I have several UPS units in my home for my audio equipment, computer and server.

I will try this log test at various time throughout the day ... doing the test remotely while no one is home reveals that most of the log says Hops Left=2 with a few devices that say Hops Left=1. Once of these devices that gives the Hops Left=1 is my outside Waterfall that is an Appliancelinc on a GFI Outlet and a temporary extension cord so I expect a bit of trouble there. When my two anomalies occurred recently there was basically nothing else running in the house so I am not too sure where any interference could come from? I do have a new small Samsung Refrigerator that I got early January - could that cause an issue? I have the PLM plugged into FilterLinc but I could move the FilterLinc to the fridge if it is a suspect ...

Thanks for the help Lee! I will check the Access Points when I get home tonight - but they have been in the same place for just over two years. The only recent addition was a brand new INSTEON Dual Band Keypad Dimmer 6 Button 2334-232 on the weekend. The ISY could not autodetect this one but when I chose it from the list at discovery it worked fine. My 'issues' were present before this addition though so I do not believe this to be any problem. Other than that nothing changed much except for the new ISY to replace my old ISY. Also - on the failures - these are NOT consistent failures - almost all of the time the switches and programs work properly. It just seems to be a few rare occurences with multiple scenes/devices/programs. The logs to me suggest that the ISY is doing what it is supposed to do - but some things are not responding properly - that is why I was wondering about the PLM.

Recently I have been noticing a few 'odd happenings' program triggers seem to be failing - such as not turning on or off scenes or devices. I have had two incidents just last night and this morning - Last night programmed outside lights did not turn off - however status lights in keypadlincs appeared to be off. I had to use the keypadlinc to 'turn on' the already on lights and then push it again to turn them off. This morning a fan timer program failed to turn off the fan after the programmed 5 minutes. Again the kepadlinc was off but the fan was still running. I have to say that these programs have worked flawless for well over a year - the only difference now is that I have replaced my ISY99i with the ISY994 (4.05) - May 1, 2013 When I looked at the logs for these two events - the ISY shows that both of these items were turned off (according to it) but in fact they were still on. Could I please get some suggestions as to what I should try to improve the reliability of my system? Does it sound like my PLM may be dieing? It is just over two years old (MAY 4, 2011) ... I am wondering if it is just not communicating properly with the devices? The led seems real faint on the side of it .... Thank you so much for any help! Dwight ISY LOG.txt

This may not be the most elegant program but this is what I use for my purpose. This program is NOT ENABLED and it is called through other programs that monitor my remote control/keypad that I use at bedtime and another program that triggers in the morning to turn them back on. Program: BACKLIGHT LEVELS (Not Enabled) If - No Conditions - (To add one, press 'Schedule' or 'Condition') Then Set 'Master Bedroom / KPL / MBedroom KPL.1' On 1 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bedroom / Bedroom Hall' On 15 / Off 1 (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bath / VAN KPL / VAN KPL.A' On 7 / Off 2 (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bath / Bathtub SLD' 100% (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bath / Shower SLD' 100% (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / KIT KPL Ceiling' On 7 / Off 2 (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / Penninsula SLD' 100% (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / Upper Hall-3Way' 100% (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / Upper Hall-Load' 25% (Backlight Level) Set 'Living Room / LIV KPL / LIV KPL.A' On 7 / Off 2 (Backlight Level) Set 'Rec Room / REC Lamps' On 7 / Off 2 (Backlight Level) Set 'Rec Room / Ceiling Lower SLD' 25% (Backlight Level) Set 'Rec Room / Ceiling Upper SLD' 25% (Backlight Level) Else Set 'Master Bedroom / KPL / MBedroom KPL.1' On 0 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bedroom / Bedroom Hall' On 0 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bath / VAN KPL / VAN KPL.A' On 0 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bath / Bathtub SLD' 1% (Backlight Level) Set 'Master Bath / Shower SLD' 1% (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / KIT KPL Ceiling' On 0 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / Penninsula SLD' 1% (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / Upper Hall-3Way' 1% (Backlight Level) Set 'Kitchen / Upper Hall-Load' 1% (Backlight Level) Set 'Living Room / LIV KPL / LIV KPL.A' On 0 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Rec Room / REC Lamps' On 0 / Off 0 (Backlight Level) Set 'Rec Room / Ceiling Lower SLD' 1% (Backlight Level) Set 'Rec Room / Ceiling Upper SLD' 1% (Backlight Level) Turn off KeypadLinc Backlights through the night and reset them in the daytime I call THEN to set the Brightness Levels ON and call the ELSE to set them OFF I have the backlights restore to various levels to try to keep my LED's at similar brightness (some models are different in a 3-gang box) and some of the Keypad levels are different for different rooms. Hope this helps! Dwight

I only have one Motion Sensor and I had problems with it recently - My battery was low so I changed it out - started having all kinds of issues with it not working properly. I removed it from my devices and then had problems even adding it back in - finally got it to add back in but could not auto detect the type and I had to move it right near an access point to do that. Put it back in it's original position and it was quite 'flakey' - sometimes it would trigger my program and sometimes not. I do not know if it was a coincidence but when I upgraded from 3.3.8 to 3.3.9 the motion sensor started to work just fine ... weird!? Dwight

Thank you for posting your FLIP programs ... Gives me a good starting point! Dwight

I would be thrilled to see examples of your programs - this is a project that I need to work on as well. I already have a Insteon Doorbell and Telephone Ring Kit with the I/O Linc sitting here in a box waiting for me to get the time to put it all together. Your 'Flip' program is exactly what I am looking for - I have a few select lights that I would like to flash - basement utility room, laundry, table lamp and shower light. I am thinking of having it maybe double flash on door bell and triple flash on telephone ring - something like that. Thanks, Dwight
