  3. paulbates, Thanks for the quick reply and programming. In order to use two separate garage doors in my system to turn on the garage lights I thought I'd have to use two IOLincs (Insteon 2450) which represented a problem to find a nearby receptacle to plug in another device. I was thinking since the EZIO2X4 had multiple inputs and outputs that it would've been the solution (only need one device receiving two separate garage door signals) however what was holding me back from using the EZIO2X4 was the NO state for the outputs. Now I can run both garage doors into the the one device (EZIO2X4) istead of separate 2450's. Thanks again.
  4. LeeG, So if I wish to trigger my garage ceiling lighting to go on when the garage door opens (contacts are NC) I can do so using the Smartenit EZIO2S4 instead of the Insteon 2450 via software? I thought the EZIO2X4 relays are NO?
  5. elvisimprsntr, Are you sure the NTP server you are trying to use is: time.nost.gov? If so, then you have a typo. It should be time.nist.gov which may have been the reason for the timeouts. Hope that helps. Gerard

  7. tunaman, Are you using a KeypadLinc to control the 120VAC to FanLinc/Fan? Before being put on the right track by LeeG in a previous post, I had tried to setup my FanLinc / KeypadLinc with KPL red "load" wire as the line wire going to the FanLinc. As it turns out the KPL red "load" wire is to be terminated in the J-box and the black wire from the KPL is connected to the line (120VAC) wire at the FanLinc. Because of the way I was wireing the KPL, when the load button was "Off", no current was going to the FanLinc and therefore it was not recognized during the ISY linking process. Once I changed the wiring, I was able to correctly link with the ISY.

    RichTJ99, Replacing a 30-years old GFCI breaker in a load centre should be part of this troubleshooting process, if for no other reason than as ELA pointed out: breaker technology has improved over the years (and is superior to 30 years ago). You should have it changed out in addition to checking the wiring (for nicks, faulty connections and incorrect wiring etc.), and then monitor the performance of your electrical system. If you are not comfortable with electrical work, have it done by a licensed electrician. Consider LeeG's and ELA's comments regarding the source of the issue. As much as it is nice to have easy remedies for "Nuisance tripping" like changing out components, often the source of the problem is more obscure (like in older homes) and requires a great deal of time to search out the culprit. Since this is a matter of safety, don't assume anything, especially for a GFCI circuit.
  9. LeeG, My plan was to use a single KeypadLinc which will, as you pointed out, limit fan control to a single KeypadLinc. I applied your posted solution to my problem and it worked without a hitch! Thank you again for your generous assistance.
  10. I've finally installed my fan and corrected problems with the FanLinc and KeypadLinc wiring and linking problems. Now I am trying to set up the fan to be controlled by the KPL. I've created scenes in My Lighting for the Fan Light, Fan Off, Fan Low, Fan Med and Fan High. I've added the Fan Motor to the various fan speed scenes as well as the appropriate KPL button I've set the fan speed for each scene as well. I've created a program for each fan speed which ensures that pressing a KPL button will turn off a previously set KPL button (so two buttons are not on at the same time). I have also included in the "Then" statement that the scene is adjusted and the fan motor is set to a certain speed. Having done all of that, I am still not able to control the fan speeds. From the Admin Console, if I select a Fan Speed scene and twice click on the "On" button the fan will usually start. Pressing once causes the fan blades to spin very slowly a couple of times before stopping. When it starts, it sounds like something is going to happen, then nothing. Selecting the Fan Motor in My Lighting and adjusting the slilder to Low, Med or High works so I know the fan is operational. Pressing any of the speed buttons on the KPL doesn't work except for buttons being mutually exclusive with respect to a button LED turning off when another is turned on. I've spent the last almost 3-1/2 hours trying to figure where I have messed up and I can't put my finger on it. I thought the solution to the issue was the "Adjust Scene" action statement in the program, but that hasn't appeared to help (or so it seems). I've searched on the forum for posts with the proper FanLinc/KPL setup, but they only illustrate configurations which use a KPL with v.40 firmware whereas my KPL is v.36 which requires programing to resolve the issue (according to the posts). Has anyone encountered the same issues with similar equipment?
  11. LeeG, As it turns out, all three devices which were inadvertently and unintentionally being controlled by the KPL had the same issue and were evident in the Device Links Table comparison. After restoring the devices as you recommended, they are no longer linked to the KPL. This meant I did not have to delete and reinstall the devices which would've required removing them from scenes and then adding them again. This saved a lot of time. Thanks again for your help. This troubleshooting issue has really opened my eyes to some of the ISY tools that are available for correcting problems.
  12. LeeG, I thought the issue was possibly with the KPL and not with the other devices that were responding. I tried what you suggested with making a scene and deleting the device and the KPL from it. Unfortunately, it did not work. So I tried to see if one of the problem devices had any links to the KPL. For the problem device I did a "Show Device Links Table" scan and then did a compare. What you see below is the output. The first line is the ID Address for a ControLinc which controls the Wall Lamp. The second line has an ID Address of 18.5B.84 which belongs to the problematic KPL. What does "Record Mismatch" mean? Further down, "Record Mismatch" shows up again for the link to the PLM (18.CF.42). Should I just delete the device and reinstall, or, should I do something else?
  13. I have a 6-button KeypadLinc 2486S (v.36) which I am using to control a ceiling fan via FanLinc. When I performed the initial wiring install of the KPL I did a full reset to factory defaults (I normally do this with each device I install when it has been used elsewhere in the house). Using the Admin Console>> Link Management>> NEW Insteon Device I linked the KPL to the ISY. Once linked, when I pressed either the "On" or "Off" KPL buttons, some other lights in the house turned "Off" (it is always the same ones). Pressing the same button again or the opposite button does not turn the affected lights back "On". This all happens before performing any further linking or adding of scenes. None of the affected lights were prevously controlled by this KPL (as far as I recall). Interestingly, the devices under My Lighting in the Admin Console will still show the lights as "On" regardless of them being off. Also, this anomoly only occurs when using the KPL's "Off" and "On" buttons. It does not happen if I use the ISY Admin Console. This makes me think the issue is with the KPL. I've checked to see if there are any links that shouldn't be there but it all looks clean. Possibly I have not done a proper reset to factory defaults, but I've now done it 4 times following the instructions in the KPL manual. I do not have much experience troubleshooting Insteon devices and the ISY-99i and was wondering if anyone has encountered a similar situation? I could not find any posts on the forum which could help with troubleshooting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  15. LeeG, What you've written is logical and makes perfect sense. What was really making wonder what was going on was in the KPL 2486S manual there is a diagram that shows the Red wire as being connected to the load (see image below). I thought if Smarthome is specifying the Red wire to be connected to the load then the Black wire (coming from the J-box which was connected to the Red "Load" wire) must be the only wire delivering 120V AC to the ceiling fan. But, as you pointed out, by linking (and scenes) the ceiling fan can be controlled vs. an actual fully hardwired configuration. Too bad Smarthome hasn't written anything into their manuals (KPL or FanLinc) to help better understand the correct setup. So to summarize the wiring as it should be: J-box: - 4 Wires. Black line-in from load centre (pig-tail connected to KPL Black line wire and to Black Load wire going to load/ceiling fan); KPL Red wire (terminated with marrette); White (pig-tailed with Neutral wires including KPL); and ground. FanLinc at Ceiling Fan (Electrical Box): This portion remains unchanged from the wiring configuration in my previous post. 1) 2 Wires. Black (Black from J-box Line connected to FanLinc Black wire); White (from J-box pigtailed with FanLinc Neutral wire and ceiling fan (White) Neutral wire) 2) Blue (Blue from FanLinc connected to ceiling fan Blue light wire); Red (Red from FanLinc connected to Ceiling fan motor wire (Black). Do I have it right?
  16. LeeG, My wiring appears to be normal and in accordance with the Smarthome 2475F and 2486S manuals. Here is the rundown of what I have wired, starting from the J-box and KPL at the wall. J-box: - 4 Wires. Black line-in from load centre (connected to KPL Black line wire); Black from ceiling fan electrical box (connected to KPL Red wire); White (pig-tailed with Neutral wires including KPL); and ground. FanLinc at Ceiling Fan (Electrical Box): 1) 2 Wires. Black (Black from J-box Line connected to FanLinc Black wire); White (from J-box pigtailed with FanLinc Neutral wire and ceiling fan (White) Neutral wire) 2) Blue (Blue from FanLinc connected to ceiling fan Blue light wire); Red (Red from FanLinc connected to Ceiling fan motor wire (Black). I have installed a Harbor Breeze Mayfield ceiling fan. The ceiling fan kit has a pull-chain for both the light and fan. With the pull chains, I have adjusted the light to On and the fan to "High", prior to hooking up the FanLinc wiring. In the Harbor Breeze manual, there are three scenarios which can be used for connecting (the image is below). I chose the 3rd option as it seemed closest to what I needed to do. Can you see any areas where possibly I've incorrectly wired the J-box/KPL/FanLinc/ceiling fan?
  17. LeeG I ran "Run Help | About" and can confirm the ISY Firmware and UI lines both show 3.2.6. The FanLinc was added under 3.2.6. I will need to again open up the KPL switch J-box to confirm the wiring as well as open up the fan housing to respond to your other questions. I hope to get back to you with an update fairly soon.
  18. LeeG and oberkc, thank you for all your posts They helped me to get my garage kit / IOLinc setup working...finally!!! To update: As it turns out, part of my problem was the kit I purchased (c/w magnetic contact and IOLinc) was NOT entirely the way the instructions showed it should be. By that I mean there were only two wires (both white) attached to the reed switch. I purchased a new contact kit (NC and NO capable) which had three wires (green, red and black). I attached the black and red wires per LeeG's instructions and lo and behold, the IOLinc green light was "On" when the door was open and "Off" when it was closed. I then created a program following oberkc's and LeeG's posts. I then adjusted the IOLinc options. For some reason "Momentary C" would not make the garage ceiling lights go on or off as required. However, when I changed the setting to "Momentary B" everything worked according to plan. oberkc, I agree with you that the instructions are complicated and the manual is confusing. And to answer some questions: 1) The two garage SWL's were linked as a 3-way with a scene created for the 3-way; 2) The source for opening the garage door is either the Chamberlain wall mounted control switches or the remote in my CUV. One day I may also include a button on a KPL for operating the garage door, but for now I'm satisfied with how the system works. After all is said and done, this project is now complete and TWF (The Wife Factor) is two thumbs up. Thanks again oberkc and LeeG for all of your help.
  19. I've update my ISY firmware to 3.2.6, and tried to link the FanLinc, however the FanLinc still will not link (using Link Management>>New Insteon Device). I have checked the wiring on the fan and I've done it to the instructions (including leaving fan speed set to high and light on) and I've correctly connected the wires on the KPL (per instructions). Note: The KPL is a 6-button with top and bottom Light On and Light Off and the smaller middle buttons being Fan Off, Fan Low, Fan Med and Fan High. It has been linked to the ISY. If I press the KPL Light On button and try to link, it will link, but my understanding is that this is not how it is to be linked. If it is linked in this way and I follow the instructions written on posts in this forum for creating scenes for each fan setting, they do not work unless the Light On button is "On". Additionally, if I press the Fan Off button and try to turn the fan or lights on from the ISY client, it will not work. In fact, it cannot find the FanLinc (motor or light). Obviously, I'm doing something wrong otherwise everything would work to spec. Does anyone have any ideas?
  20. I have a Fanlinc 2475F and I am trying to set it up to use it with my KeypadLinc 2486S Relay v.36. I have been having difficulties with getting it setup, but in the forum I am seeing references to KeypadLinc Relay v. 40 as being what is needed to use the Fanlinc. Is this correct? The FanLinc version is v. BA.

When working on your suggestion "...I strongly recommend using the other magnetic switch wire combination and turn Off Trigger Reverse", I was wondering which magnetic switch wire combination would be used? Momentary A? Momentary B? The way the installation guide reads for this setup, it appeared to me to be Momentary C.
  22. LeeG and oberkc, thank you very much for your posts. I will try the suggestions out tonight. One thing I should point out, however, is an error in something that I wrote in my original post. I had written"...and have included "Garage Door Sensor-Sensor" and both of the 3-way SwitchLincs as responders". The grammar used conveyed that "Garage Door Sensor-Sensor and both the 3-way SwitchLincs were responders. What I meant was the "Garage Door Sensor-Sensor" and both of the 3-way SwitchLincs were in the same Scene, however, only the 3-way SwitchLincs are actually responders. When I read oberkc 's post I realized I didn't state the situation correctly.
  23. I have installed an Insteon Garage Door Kit c/w IOLinc. I am trying to set it up for the following: When the garage door opens I want the inside garage lights to turn ON and when the garage door closes to have the lights turn OFF (following a preset delay). Currently, I do not have the need to monitor whether the garage door is open or closed on a KeypadLinc (though I may go that route later on). The ceiling lights in the garage are controlled by two SwitchLincs set up as linked 3-way switches. The two wires from the reed (the garage door sensor) have been wired into the IOLinc (Gnd and Sense).I have linked the IOLinc to the ISY99i and have two entries under My Lighting: Garage Door Sensor-Sensor Garage Door Sensor-Relay I created a scene called "Scene 37 - Garage Door Sensor" and have included "Garage Door Sensor-Sensor" and both of the 3-way SwitchLincs as responders. Since I did not require the "Garage Door Sensor-Relay" I have not set it up. For "Garage Door Sensor-Sensor" under options, I have used setting "Momentary C", as well as other settings as shown in this image: When the garage door is closed the sensor light on the IOLinc is green. All appears to be working well: Lights go on when garage door opens and turn off when closed. The only problem is I can't seem to cause a delay in the lights turning off when the garage door closes (I would like to have the lights turn off after 5 minutes). When ever I attempt to change the Momentary Time, I get the following error: Note I know what is causing the RemoteLinc error, so I'm not concerned with that error (unless of course, it is causing the first error!). My questions are: 1) Have I set everything up correctly? 2) Is there another way to get the lights to stay on after the door closes? 3) Why do I get the error message? Any ideas?

  25. I'm fairly new to using the ISY-99i. So far my experience with it has been quite positive. For a small piece of kit, it seems to be able to do a lot. I have a question that I have not been able to resolve by searching on the forum. Does anyone have experience using the RCS TR60 (RS-485 communication) with the ISY-99i. I've seen some other RCS equipment on this forum, but not this one. I'm interested in its features, but I'm unsure as to if it can be tied into the ISY and if so, how to do it.
