Yup, I am running Nodelink. I will give that a try. Yup, it is actually a python3 program I wrote that I want to trigger. The program talks to my Solaredge inverter using Modbus over TCP to update power usage info. Thanks, guys!

I would like to be able to have an ISY program trigger a bash script or python program to run on a raspberry pi. I have Polyglot running if that helps. Any ideas?
-
What are the improvements to the ISY itself in this new hardware? I am fine using my existing setup with a RPi3 as Poly server, but am very interested in anything that might add <Clarkson> more power! </Clarkson> to the ISY itself. Like zippier interface performance, faster loading of program section, even bigger number of devices, etc.

I just added to my note as you posted. I think you are correct. The device is showing up as binary_sensor, which is wrong. binary_sensor.zw_044_19_water_temperature Perhaps there is a way to override this by customization. More to come...
-
Thanks. That worked in giving me a good detailed log. I am seeing that all the data is going to HA, but I am not seeing any way to see the data reported by HA. Here are a couple lines from the log showing my ZW044 device giving my hot tub temperature: <?xml version="1.0"?><Event seqnum="548" sid="uuid:32"><control>CLITEMP</control><action uom="17" prec="0">98</action><node>ZW044_019_1</node><eventInfo></eventInfo><fmtAct>98°F</fmtAct></Event> 2019-06-23 21:57:30 INFO (Thread-2) [homeassistant.components.isy994] ISY Node Control Event: ZW044_019_1 CLITEMP The correct temperature of 98 is being reported, but I do not see anything but on/off showing in the HA console. I will dig around some more. I am noticing that this device shows up as binary_sensor in HA: binary_sensor.zw_044_19_water_temperature. Perhaps that is the problem. It should just be sensor, right? Thanks for the help!

Yes, please let me know how to enable debugging for ISY component. And yes, I am running 5.014. I am not seeing any errors in the main log file, except for a few z-wave nodes that are not being used.

Thanks, guys! I went ahead an just added my entire ISY for now, and will monitor impact on performance. Might need to go to a beefier machine down the road, though. The reboot time on the Pi is just terrible. Sometimes several minutes before it comes back up. And since I have to reboot with every configuration.yaml change, it really is painful. One thing I notice is that all my sensor devices such as z-wave temperature, z-wave electricity monitors, etc all show up as binary sensors with no values. Is there something I need to do to get the values of these devices to show up?

I too am now addicted to Home Assistant. I started using it for my Roborock S50 vacuum to create room specific clean up commands linked to Alexa. Up until now, I have not done any integration with ISY, mostly out of concern that having my roughly 150 Insteon and z-wave devices linked to HA would simply kill performance on both devices due to constant updating of status. I am running HA on Rpi3. Is this a valid concern? I was thinking of using the ignore_string setting, but since that only allows one string, it is not very useful. I guess I could put all the devices I do not want linked to HA in a folder with a random name, but that seems a bit of a kludge.

Thanks, @k0d3g3ar! I am curious what version of ISY you are running. I am thinking the Fortrezz might provide both Total Amount and Flow Rate data, but might require V5.12 or higher to see it correctly. But what you describe would be an alternate route. I am probably going to go ahead and get the FortrezZ and play with it. BTW, do you have your inside or outside your house? I know it is rated only for inside use, but I might try to create a cover for it so that I can connect it as the pipe comes into my house from the ground.
-
@k0d3g3ar, I too am looking at getting the FortrezZ 1" flow meter to monitor water usage in my house. Does the ISY see both Water Amount (e.g. 60 gallons) AND water flow rate (e.g. 3gpm)? I am as interested in flow rate as total flow amount over time. Also, I am curious what is the minimum flow rate that the device will detect. Typically, I am seeing meters not going below 0.5GPM but I would like something that might go even lower. Thanks!

I just realized my version is getting a bit old. V0.9.19. What is the best way to upgrade nodelink? Use the same install script, or can I just replace nodelink.exe? Running on RPi.

CLOSED --- Z-Wave 500 Series Beta
blueman2 replied to Michel Kohanim's topic in Z-Wave - Series 300/500
I could never get my new 500 series z-wave board to work correctly, so I went back to the original one about 3 months ago. Today, I decided to try again. I went through the steps in Post #1, but when trying to restore, I always get the message "The Z-Wave dongle has not been restored. The data could not be written to the Z-Wave dongle". Repeated the steps again and got same results. Did z-wave full backup and then restore using 5.0.14. Any ideas? EDIT: well, after 3 attempts to restore and use the Series 500 dongle, still no joy. I am going to remain on the older series 300 dongle. Not sure if my 500 series dongle is bad or if I am doing something wrong, but just not able to figure it out at this point. Maybe try again with 5.0.15 when that comes out. -
Possible to request status of device or variable through Echo?
blueman2 replied to dsstrainer's topic in Amazon Echo
This can be done, but requires some work. I use this function all the time to check status of lights, pool pumps, ELK security status, etc. -
That is what I thought. Yes, I usually run another program 'then' segment to ensure follow through but wanted to confirm. Thanks, Paul!!
-
Question regarding programming. I used to know this, but my memory has failed me. Will a 'Then' segment terminate if a line in the 'Then' segment does that causes the program to no longer be true? Or will the 'Then' segment complete regardless of the Trueness of the program?

How To Guide: Getting Alexa to provide verbal responses
blueman2 replied to blueman2's topic in Amazon Echo
Another update for those using this custom skill to get updates about their ISY devices. Amazon has now blocked the invocation name "me" from use by custom skills. So, I can no longer say "Alexa, tell me......" to get a response. Alternative is to use some other made up word, such as "Bob". Amazon requests we use 2 words for invocation name, but it appears one word still will work (for now). So now I have to say: "Alexa, ask Bob pool status" to get my response on how my pool is doing. -

pjjameso, I have been having similar issues with Aeotec Gen 5 plug switches that I use for extenders. But due to my travels, I had to go back to the older z-wave board in my ISY so I was not able to determine fully what was going on. One thing I meant to do, but did not, was to exclude the devices and then re-include them using SECURE mode. This is a special way to include these devices that sends security info and allows them to better deal with locks, etc. Here is a clip from the instructions on how to do this with Smart Switch 6: Remove Smart Switch from an existing z‐wave network: 1. Insert the Smart Switch to power socket, The Smart Switch LED will follow the status (on/off) of its load’ power level. 2. Let the primary controller of existing Z‐Wave network into remove mode (If you don’t know how to do this, refer to its manual). 3. Press the Action button. 4. If the remove success, Smart Switch LED will blink slowly. If Smart Switch LED still follows that of load status, please repeat the process from step 2. Send Security Node Info frame. For the ISY, under Z-wave | Z-wave Secure Devices, select "Allow secure devices to be added" Add Smart Switch into an existing z‐wave network: 1. Insert the Smart Switch to power socket, The purple LED will blink slowly. 2. Let the primary controller into inclusion mode (If you don’t know how to do this, refer to its manual). 3. Press the Action Button twice. 4. If the inclusion success, Smart Switch LED will keep turning on. Otherwise, the LED will still blink slowly, in which you need to repeat the process from step 2. -

Broyd, nonce is security related term for one time use of a cryptographic value. I do not see anything amiss in your event log, but others may correct me. @gviliunas, do you have any door locks in your setup? -

I always do this. In about half the cases, it is not needed, but does not hurt. -

@captainc, First, you have to exclude it from the ISY system. I know, that sounds stupid since you have not included it yet, but trust me. Do an exclude on the ISY, press the button on the device, and it will exclude. Then try including it. -

Scott, I too have the Intermatic MultiWave pool controller. But I was able to get Intermatic to install v39 firmware, which is fully compatible with z-wave. So I now have full control over all functions, including variable speeds, all relays, temperature settings, etc. Just FYI. -

@Michel Kohanim, not sure if this is meaningful, but I have noticed several of my z-wave devices have 2 identical association groups. Both are between the device and the ISY. @Scyto, All my Schlage locks required them to be right next to the ISY when they were included. This was on the old z-wave dongle. So I am not sure about the new dongle. Once included, I have always been able to use repeaters to help get the signal across the house when using the old dongle. With the new 500 Series, the repeaters do not appear to be working correctly, but I am not sure. -

I reinstalled my Series 500 dongle today and let it 'settle' for a while. After about 4 hours, still not connecting well to many of my z-wave devices that were working fine with old dongle. Interesting is that my Front Door Lock (Schlage BE469) has four V6 repeaters between it and the ISY, yet it sees none of them and is using a weird routing using non-v6 repeaters that are much, much further away. As a result, the front door lock works less than 10% of the time right now. The ISY can see all four of the V6 repeaters that are very close to the door, but the door will not use them in the route. See below that all the repeaters that the door sees are non-V6 devices. I have 5 V6 repeater devices in my house, and the front door sees none of them. This is not a dongle issue, but rather came about when multi-channel was implemented. UDI decided to err on the side of adding nodes which are phantoms, rather than missing ones that are real. This happens big time with my multi-channel pool controller (Intermatic MultiWave) which has 10 real nodes and about 15 or 20 phantom nodess. I have created a folder to keep all these phantom nodes in. If you delete them, they will come back, so just keep them.
