MIchel, thanks for the reply. I have tried doing what you suggest. The status line at the bottom of the screen shows "Busy" and the window that pops open says it is writing to the device. When it finishes, the little green icon is still next to the device and the controller which I have added thinks it can control the FanLinc but it does not. If what you say is the case, then why am I able to see the status using both the ISY Dashboard and the ISY Administrative Console, and also turn on and off the FanLinc?

I have an Insteon FanLinc (identified in the title) that I recently decided to change the devices that controlled it. I was able to register the new controls using the ISY Administrative Console. However, no matter what I do the FanLinc shows that it is awaiting updates to be written to it. How do you do this?

I need to upgrade an ISY99 to an ISY994. Is there any program to do this, or do I have to go buy the new device outright at retail?

I have recently had to replace my Insteon PLM used by my ISY to connect to the power line network. Following the instructions in this Forum, I did so and then did the Restore Modem command. Afterwards, a number of my non-battery powered devices are showing that changes are unable to be written to the particular device. I right mouse click on them and select Write Updates to Device. The interface goes through the motions of writing, and when it is done the status has not changed. Furthermore, now one or two of the devices are mysteriously being turned off even though there has been no command issued or program run that would cause the device to be turned off. What do I need to do in order to correct this situation? Thanks. GreyFox

Multiple isy's, multiple Echo's, and in multiple cities
GreyFox replied to GreyFox's topic in Amazon Echo
Michel, thank you very much! -
I have two houses that are hundreds of miles apart. Each house has an isy 994i, and each house has multiple echos and dots. I have just registered the second isy. I only have a single Amazon account with which the echos/dots are registered. My question is whether or not I need to change this to having multiple Amazon accounts in order to differentiate which isy that I am attempting to manage with the echos/dots. What do I need to do? Thanks.

I am a long time user of Universal Devices ISY. I started with the 99 and have upgraded to the 994. My ISYs control Insteon devices I am also a user of the Amazon Dot/Echo devices. While I have taken the time to integrate the ISY/Insteon devices with my Elk alarm panel, I have yet to tackle the integration with the Dot/Echo devices. I see from poking around on the Internet that it appears that I am able to do this either by having the Dot/Echo device working directly with the ISYs, or working through my Mobilinc Pro app. My question is what are the pros and cons for either choice? Which works better? I am sure whichever path I follow it will be complicated. I have more than one house, and each house has more than one Dot/Echo device. It's a shame no one ever taught me that increasing the flexibility and power increases the complexity by the square of the flexibility and power increases.

Well, I think I have an idea what the answer to my question is going to be, but I'm still going to ask it. Following the directions in the video, I click on Help in my ISY interface and select Purchase Modules. My browser pops open and I see a message that says my ISY has no modules installed, and there are no modules available for it. If I go to the About menu option, I see that my Product is an ISY 99i (1020), my UUID is 00:21:b9:00:e7:d4, my Firmware is Insteon_UD99 V.3.3.10, and my UI is Insteon_UD994 V.4.2.30. My expectation is that Universal Devices has left its long time users in the dust with no support for Echo integration. Hopefully, someone will tell me I am wrong and point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the replies. Well, clearly I am in over my head. My security camera allows me to send a message either as HTTP/1.0 or as raw TCP/IP. I am attaching a couple of .png files, each one of which shows what data needs to be entered to configure this. So, I either need to lay my hands on some good documentation (I am not a programmer) or find someone to help me understand and configure this.

I utilize security cameras to monitor people coming and going around my property. The cameras are high quality and quite sophisticated, and capable of creating various forms of alerts. I am interested in finding a way when one of the cameras detects motion and it is after dark, for it to cause certain of my ISY controlled Insteon lights to come on. It is my understanding that the cameras can cause an html message to be sent across a network. Would this work? Is there a more efficient way to accomplish this goal?

Has anyone attempted to do any programming in order to implement ISY integration with the Amazon Echo?

Shannong, if I understand you correctly you have two 4 conductor 22 AWG cables connected to an RJ45 plug on one end, and 5 of the total 8 conductors connected to the terminals in the furnace. You then make another 8 conductor patch cable of 22 AWG with one end terminated into an RJ45 plug and the other end gets connected (at least the 5 conductors that match the furnace side) to the wires leading to your thermostat. Am I correct?
-
Shannong, would you please provide a wiring diagram of your workaround, showing both a before and an after. Thanks.
-
Shannong, if the ISY software can change the temperature setpoint, which is set on the 2441TH by pressing a button, and the ISY software can change the mode which is set on the 2441TH by pressing a button, why can't the ISY software toggle the energy saving mode, which (theoretically) is set by pressing a button?
-
Excellent, shannong! However, I would expect that since there is no way in the 2441th to disable the energy saving mode, I would doubt that Universal-Devices is able to give us a way to disable it. However, Universal-Devices is able to give us a way to turn the energy saving mode on or off via the ISY. Hint, hint, Michel. And if they did that, we could programmatically have the ISY test to see if it is turned on, and if it is, to turn it off. I'm not holding out hope that SmartHome will give us any relief.
-
Shannong, thanks for the reply. Hopefully Michel and Universal-Devices will come to our rescue.
-
Shannong, it looks to me like the problem is that energy saving mode operates independent of the thermostat setting. It is similar to the functioning of thermostat calibration. The thermostat is constantly reading the ambient temperature, and the user is able to give it an offset by which demand for either heat or cooling is determined. The problem is that the thermostat does not change the set point that the ISY sees. Michel, Universal-Devices could really help things by incorporating a control for this stupid energy saving feature into the ISY interface. How about it?
-
Michael, can you describe how exactly you changed this wiring. It seems to me you are risking combining the voltage of 24 volts from the furnace and 24 volts from the transformer. Also, how do you get an ISY program to run every 15 minutes? Thanks.
-
HVAC is Rheem/Ruud. I replaced my 4 wire thermostat wiring with 5 wire.
-
Having created the program suggested by pgershon, I have been watching the behavior of my 2441TH. A few minutes ago, it activated the energy saving mode. In looking at the ISY interface for this device, there is no way to turn off or on the energy saving mode. It sure would be helpful if this could be added, as this would then allow me to programmatically regulate it as well. Any chance?
-
Shame on me for not reading the Forum before buying a new 2441TH. I have installed it in the past couple of days, and I am experiencing the same behavior as described by the rest of you in this thread: The energy saving mode turns itself on randomly, and the mode changes itself randomly as well. Based upon the collective comments of al of you, I have no doubt that the issue is entirely hardware/firmware, and has nothing to do with the ISY. It would appear that SmartHome has no interest in fixing its product. So, I have adopted the workaround supplied by pgershon - a pair of programs in the ISY to check that the 2441TH stays in the mode I have selected, and also holds the temperature I have selected. As an aside, I find their documentation totally lacking. For example, how do you turn Hold off and on? How do you turn the daily program on and off? I am also surprised that Universal Devices hasn't added to its GUI management of energy mode, set-backs, etc. for this device. So, my question is, before I jump from the frying pan into the fire, are all of these issues resolved with the Venstar T1800 combined with the Insteon adapter? With these two pieces installed, if I can connect to my ISY remotely, can I fully control the thermostat? Am I able to see somewhere what the ISY GUI control looks like? Are there other issues with the Venstar of which I should be aware?

I have just acquired a new Insteon 2441TH which I intend to control with my isy99. It has been my experience with my other Insteon devices, configuration upon installation is best done via the isy rather than by doing the linking, etc., using the set buttons of the various Insteon devices. Is this the case with the thermostat as well? My intent is not so much to link as it is to merely control set points and the like. Any tips?

LeeG, thanks for the reply. Indeed, I did the things you pointed out. And there is only a single LED flash. But it turns out that I guess I was being impatient as it appears to have started working perfectly after a while being left alone. Problem solved. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the clarification. I now have a new issue. The motion detector is supposed to be a scene controller the responder for which is a SwitchLinc 2477S. The SwitchLinc is controlling a pair of fluorescent lights, and it works just fine. I can toggle the switch on and off, and I can control it with the ISY. However, even though the motion detector sees motion (the red LED will flash), it does not send any signal to the SwitchLinc. Both of these devices were added to My Lighting in the ISY. I then created the scene, clicked and dragged the SwitchLinc as a Responder onto the scene, and clicked and dragged the sensor line of the motion detector entry to the scene as a controller. I guess I am missing something, but I don't know what it is. Can anyone enlighten me?
