Hi Walt, I have the same experience (I'm about 30 miles north of you) with my PG&E Smartmeter. Lost communication a while back. Perhaps there's an issue on their end that needs to be resolved.
-
My light levels are all over the map and don't seem to follow any logic. I wonder if the stations are the problem?
-
Is it possible to have a system with both operating? What conflicts might arise?

Don't put too much faith in Weatherbug. I found my local stations to have enough errors or gaps in data to throw off the evapotranspiration calculations. Case in point: it's been raining for 4 days and the local school station is reporting 0 inches of rain. Never mind the lack of light data. This approach is fine from a hobbyist standpoint, but is not reliable enough for professional or home automation use. The latter requires 99+% reliability without user intervention. I have to constantly second-guess my ISY program to make sure the yard is watered properly (right now it's trying to water my plants in the middle of a thunderstorm!). It gets very old after a while! We need a 100% reliable source of information to base our evapotranspiration calculations on, and Weatherbug is not it.

Michel, This is the EXACT same problem I reported to you a few months ago. My PG&E Smartmeter no longer communicates with ISY either. I get the identical messages and behavior. GB

Don't kid yourselves: Google has only one objective - to find out anything it can about you and your habits, then sell this info to the highest bidder. There are NO good intentions there! NEST is their best current bet for discovering what you do at home; other cloud-based sensors are good targets as well. Makes the SmartMeter paranoia look like child's play in comparison. Long live ISY!

I seem to have lost the ability to read my SmartMeter; even though it is connected, there's a red exclamation mark and the time appears to be un-synchronized. How do I resolve this?

Nothing happens if I select Floor Plan in my ISY.

suggestions for accessing my ISY from iphone / ipad
GuitarBuilder replied to someguy's topic in ISY994
Another vote for MobiLinc. -
I would be interested in hooking up an Axis P7214 Network IP Video Encoder to my ISY system - it accommodates 4 analog video cameras. Will that interface with my ISY994iPro?

Can we have a sticky with the "ideal" program for Garage Doors? It seems like everyone is asking the same questions.

First new Insteon deployment in years-need suggestions
GuitarBuilder replied to ResIpsa's topic in ISY994
I would suggest you use the Insteon LED Bulb in each can: http://www.smarthome.com/2672-222/INSTEON-LED-Bulb/p.aspx -
I think you should reconsider, Michel, and here is why: The $10K expense, although not small from a cash flow perspective, is peanuts when you view it as a marketing and sales investment. If you go to the PG&E website at the link above, you'll see a list of only 6 approved HAN devices, none of which are as good as the ISY. Since ALL PG&E customers have to visit this page to start the process, it only follows that a good number of them will actually view the list of devices - it's a great advertising exposure for Universal Devices. Now comes the good part: all small and medium business customers in California (PG&E and SCE) will be on mandatory time varying pricing by the end of 2014. For some this is OK, but for quite a few of them it is a problem that can only be mitigated through smart energy management (as is possible with ISY, not so good with HAN displays that require customer action). The utility will encourage HAN use as part of the mitigation. That is about 1,000,000 (yes, one million) potential customers for you. But wait, there's more: all residential customers will be put on time varying pricing over the next 2-5 years as well, with the same issues. Your potential market there: close to 10,000,000 (yes, ten million) households. For PG&E only, you can use half of those numbers for your total available market. Spending $10K to reach about 5.5M customers is not a bad deal in my book!

Michel, Has the ISY been validated by the PG&E HAN team? If not, I strongly recommend you do so as soon as possible. It would put it on the list of approved devices on their website. Here is the link: http://www.pge.com/myhome/saveenergymoney/energysavingprograms/han/validateddevice/index.shtml

The PG&E SmartMeter is provided by Silver Spring Networks. Their customer support may be of help: http://www.silverspringnet.com/services/customer-support/#.UW7rVbXvsrU

I apologize in advance if this question has been answered before; I searched, but only found references to using REST. I'm looking for a simple way to query my iMeter Solo in regular intervals and make the data available for viewing, preferably on my iPad in MobiLinc. Is this possible using variables, for example? If so, does someone have a program that I can use? Thanks!

Release 3.3.4 (RC1) Is Now Available
GuitarBuilder replied to Michel Kohanim's topic in Previous Releases
I installed 3.3.4 because I wanted to add an LED Insteon bulb and have nothing but problems since then. I had a very stable system before with no issues. Now, I get repeated warnings that various devices are not communicating properly; the onset of these coincides exactly with the upgrade to 3.3.4. In addition, the very reason I upgraded was to add the bulb and it refuses to recognize it! Back to the drawing board, guys! I would greatly appreciate being able to get back to my old stable state. -
Hey Michel, I'm in CA! However, our utilities have not yet enabled the HAN radios in their Smartmeters. This is because they are just now re-evaluating how and to what to transmit the data. Hint: if you're not in already, NOW is the time to get the ISY evaluated in the PG&E HAN v2 program! My Smartmeter is a Silver Springs unit; I don't have details on the HAN radio, but I can try to get it........ We have a tiered rate structure that is soon converting to TOU with Peak Day Pricing. I'm anxious to get an intelligent program in the ISY that can help me manage overall energy consumption to stay out of the higher rate tiers and manage specific energy use on demand response days. I think the ISY is capable (correct me if I'm wrong), so the main challenge is to make the ISY an integral part of the HAN. BTW, I don't value hourly real-time meter data, and here is why: it's a lagging indicator! For me, being able to monitor energy consumption at various usage points 24/7 is far more valuable; I can predict trends and forecast the need to curb usage far in advance of the meter telling me. The Smartmeter data is merely a confirmation that I made the right decisions. What I do need from the utility (perhaps via the HAN or via the Internet) is the real-time rate information so I can forecast my bill impact. In addition, I would like to see demand response period information (here in CA we get 24 hour notice) automatically streamed to my ISY (not like AutoDR), but as a date/time variable, again in the interest of being pro-active instead of reactive.

I'd like to chime in on this subject: It's looking more and more likely that the utilities will go in the direction of Zigbee Smart Energy for Home Area Networks and energy management: http://www.zigbee.org/Products/ByStandard/ZigBeeSmartEnergy.aspx A lot of companies are already on this bandwagon, giving it good credibility and a variety of products to choose from. I would urge UDI to make the ISY-99x compliant with Zigbee SE as quickly as possible. For selfish reasons, I'd like to keep mine and not have to replace it with another system!

Awesome! Thanks!

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find the answer with search. Is it possible to retrofit an ISY-994i to add Zigbee capability?
