  1. Has anyone ever used Apple's Disk Utility to make a .dmg file from an SD card? And if so...can you apply the .dmg image to a brand new SD card? Kinda sounds like a cool way to back up the whole SD card and have something one can quickly restore to a new SD card.
  2. You could coat a cheap 1 wire sensor with silicone ( or similar) and drop it in the tank. But I think I'd rather mount the sensor on the outside of the tank on the glass. For all practical purposes the temperature would read the same whether totally underwater or attached to the tank glass on the outside. But I know nothing of exotic creatures immersed in a hydrogen/oxygen compound.
  3. What happens if the ISY is not present for any reason? It may be disconnected from the network, or wall wart unpugged. Does the 3way control still work? Does it matter how the 3way links are created, be it via a scene in the ISY or manually creating the links with the light switches?
  4. If DDNS is implemented in the isy it would be something I never would use. My vote.....is for POE for the isy.....and not devoting development time for DDNS. Wall warts stink.

    Port 8080

Also.....mobilinc will automatically prefer an SSL connection and it will flip over to SSL just fine. It would be nice to see the flipover initiated at the ISY level as opposed to leaving it entirely up to the 3rd party software. Or a checkbox to completely disable unencrypted transactions. Thx.

    Port 8080

Guess I'll have to test it. An admin console checkbox to auto-prefer an SSL connection? Or disable unencrypted all together with a checkbox? Or maybe an automagic flipover from unencrypted to SSL if the ISY is pre configured for SSL ? My firewall is like that. If I approach it with a browser on port 80 it automatically flips over to port 443 and redirects my browser over to an SSL connection. Recently there's been a news blip about hackers breaking into home automation systems. I hate the hassle but I guess I'll have to do it.

    Port 8080

By default, my ISY994 will conduct business in an unencrypted fashion via port 8080. If I wipe out the 8080 in admin console (leave it blank) will that kill unencrypted access? There wouldn't be any other untoward consequences ? I realize that I can also just not let port 8080 in throo my firewall, or use a VPN but it's inside my homenet that I want to kill. Thx.
  8. Ok...kool...this has particular relevance to for me because I am building a little funtoy thing. I am replacing all 8 buttons on an 8 button KPL with all clear buttons and some colored buttons kit. This KPL will do nothing but lite it's backlites in a random pattern sort of simulating the slowly changing/blinking lites on the star trek bridge computer.....sort of like. It's going to sit in the wall of my bedroom and look very important Actually, I may assign a few buttons to do things but mostly it's for Das Blinken Lite Show.
  9. So you can remotely turn off the backlite for 1 individual button only if there is a scene with that button in it? And then you set that scene to off? There is no direct command to turn off 1 button's backlite? I know that a manual buttonpress does in fact turn off the button's backlite, just wanted to make sure that a scene has to be involved in order to remotely turn off 1 backlite.
  10. You say a beep is a problem due to distances involved. So instead, use a light. Flash the light. 1 single red Xmas bulb plugged into an applicancelinc. You could dim it by 50% or more if a bright red flashing thing is annoying. Insteon does an outdoor appliancelinc if weather might be an issue. I use one on my coffeemaker for remote on/off when I forget to turn it off. Really kool little square plastic box, not zactly totally waterproof, but then it does not need to be. And put a different screen door on with a pet opening so you do not have to actually go to the door to let Bowser in.
  11. I'm looking at the same type of thing - audio notifications in different rooms of the house. Speakers with IP addresses that speak multicast audio that is delivered via 802.11 wireless and TCP/IP based audio amplifiers. Having audio that is TCP/IP based sure makes it easier to get the audio into and out of a computer as well as transmit the audio all around the house. Doing this may add a layer of sophistry to deal with, but so far I'm liking this solution the best. If I can just get it all to work with a raspberry pi I'll be happy. One thing that I watch out for - the device MUST be a POE device. I can't tolerate wall warts. If a device is POE, it's always stated in the blurb, advertising. If you don't see POE mentioned then there is a wall wart and it is usually not pictured in the ads....watch out if you require POE devices, they like to hide the ugly wall wart from you and make it look like it doesn't have one. kinda like this..... http://www.cyberdata.net/products/voip/ ... index.html The speaker has a little button on it - press the button and the speaker actually speaks it's IP address to you. Kool!
  12. I've got this little cardboard box - I cover the sensor....check out reaction.... uncover the sensor....see the reaction. It's been awhile so I can't remember exactly how linear it was. At my lat/longitude the daylight is extremely not linear to begin with. I think experimentation is the best way due to all the variables involved.
  13. As a troubleshooting measure I would temporarily assign a static addy to the ISY. Then, once you know for a fact what it's addy is.....enter that into mobilinc. If you really really want to use a DHCP address then go back and set the ISY for DHCP. Become cognizant of your DHCP source and what range of addresses it is handing out. I can usually find what addy a device has by pinging addresses within the known range of DHCP service. It's also possible that you have no wireless connection on your phone so make sure the phone can surf before you expect mobilinc to work.
  14. Is there a such thing? Or just make a scene with everything in it that you want to turn on?
  15. Here's the gig...... My iphone....it's the TV/Cablebox remote. It has only about 6 buttons on the remote that match the 6 things I usually do. If I need full functionality I swipe over the remote. The remote flips over and shows all 621,239 buttons...just like your average remote. (grins...)..... So what is the best remote program for an iphone? I'd consider an android device if it has built-in IR and an easy to setup program that doesn't have a bazillion buttons on the remote that I never need. What are the best options? I have roomie and it's wonderful but still too many buttons.
