  1. I finally had to replace my PLM, as it was losing links, etc. I followed the procedure to replace the PLM, including "Restore Modem" on the ISY, which, according to the Admin Console, worked fine. However, some of my programs are not working. For example, I have one light switch programmed so that when you double tap it 'off', it turns off all the lights in an area - which is no longer working. Also, when the garage door opens at night, it has a program to turn on two lights - not working. However, others, such as the automatic on/off of the landscape lights and the programs for keypads are working. Any suggestions on troubleshooting would be appreciated!
  2. Michel, Thanks, the wiki instructions worked, although one note is that I had to use a secondary gmail account. My primary gmail account is set up for two-step verification and so I was receiving an incorrect password error. Best - John
  3. Michel, Thanks for the reply. I do have it set to default server. I see the wiki has instructions for setting up via gmail, which is what I use, so I will give it a try! Thanks again! John
  4. If an error log or screenshot would be helpful, please let me know. I could not find any threads that address a problem with texts nor anything in the wiki. Thanks - John
  5. I have a simple program that sends a text to my phone after the garage door has been open over 30 minutes. It's been working fine until the last couple weeks and now I no longer receive texts. The garage sensor displays correctly in ISY and the program indicates it is running when the door is open. I tried to test the text function in the emails/notifications window and I get an error: "Mail server error, [To timed out] | Subscriber didn't reply to event:1 [27]". Any help is appreciated.
  6. Sorry for the delay in responding. Thanks for posting the screenshots, I'm going to work on implementing this soon and this should help considerably.
  7. Hi Brad, could you post screenshots of your final, working, setup: folders, programs, etc.? This has been a helpful thread covering several concepts useful for new users (like me).
  8. Ok, thanks!
  9. Hi Michel, I just completed setting up remote access, with only a few hiccups along the way, but it is now working. Since I am hardly a networking expert, I had a question about your last post: The wiki example changes the secure port to 1443. Is there anything magical about greater than 2000? Thanks!
  10. Ok, thanks. I plan to write some 'away' programs and will use a separate folder for them.
  11. Lee - thanks for the program example and the explanation of benefits of using a scene. You lost me here. Are you saying that creating a folder containing the program (and with the condition "ON" for the folder) is a better alternative to the sample program (or are you saying to place the sample program in a folder with the condition)? I'm also confused by this statement as the program sample appears complete (with the ELSE), so what second program is needed?
  12. Thanks for sharing both garage programs, just finished installing my sensor and am setting up a notification - this is very helpful! Agreed!
  13. Thanks for the explanation of the terms - very helpful! The devices are linked via a scene I set up with the ISY. They were not linked outside of ISY. Thanks - that was what I was trying to determine. It's not a big deal to have the Fast On trigger instant on, it was a marginal preference to have it ramp over 1 or 2 seconds, similar to the Lutron dimmers I replaced with the Insteon dimmers. Sorry, I was not clear. I was looking for a more comprehensive ISY programming guide. The wiki is great, but I have seen commands and parameters in code examples posted in the forums that are not in the wiki - so was curious if I was missing some documentation. The users are very helpful, but I was trying to self-help as much as possible.
  14. Lee, thanks for the response. So, that's why I was asking about a reference guide, in order to try to determine these types of things, although I don't understand the context of all of your terms. Some appear to be Insteon parameters and some seem to be ISY parameters. In regards to Fast On, I was expecting that I could create a program such that if either controller (switch) has a double tap (Fast On), then instead of instant on, then the scene ramps on over 'x' seconds. So I was not using a function of Fast On, but a condition of Fast On.
  15. Hi I have searched the wiki and either am missing it, or looking in the wrong place, but I can't find a comprehensive "Reference/Command" guide because when I am reading through posts in the forum with code samples I keep seeing new commands or parameters. I apologize, as this is probably "in plain sight", but I just can't find it. For example I saw the following code: If From 11:59:00PM To 5:50:00AM (next day) Then In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom 2nd SW' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 20% (On Level) In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 20% (On Level) Else In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom 2nd SW' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 65% (On Level) In Scene 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' Set 'Interior Lights / BathRoom Main' 65% (On Level) But did not see the (On Level) parameter in the Wiki. I have also seen (Ramp Rate) in other code. FWIW, I am trying to write a simple program to change the ramp rate on a 3-way circuit to 2 seconds (rather than instant) when the "Fast On" is pressed from either switch. Thanks!
  16. Thanks, as a new user it's not always clear which instructions to use - Insteon or ISY. Your response helps considerably.
  17. Hi Lee - thanks for the reply. To link new devices to the ISY, I have used "Link Management / Start Linking" in the ISY's Administrative Console and then press SET on each device to add to ISY. This is the method in the ISY user manual and has worked fine. Not sure if there is a different way to use the SET button to add devices that you are stating not to use? So, add each device independently and create a Scene containing both devices? Lastly - so I can understand the system better, if I had manually "Grouped" the devices per the Insteon installation manual, would this have any effect when I add them to the ISY? Or would the ISY ignore this and I still would add them independently (and then create a scene)? Thanks again!
  18. Tagging on to an existing thread here with a newbie question. I am installing my first Switchlinc with multiple switches. It is a 3-way circuit with two 2477D Switchlinc dual-band dimmers. I have an ISY994i controller with a three existing outlets/switches. In the Insteon installation guide it instructs you to create a group (containing the two switches) manually (using Set buttons on each switch). The ISY Console also has a "Group Devices" function. My question is whether there is a difference or a preferred method for grouping the switches. Thanks for any assistance!
  19. Yes - thanks! This worked fine. In fact, I ended up placing the ISY & PLM upstairs by a infrequently used PC and had to connect the ISY to a D-LINK Wireless access point that is hardwired back to a switch in the media hub closet (which is then wired to the router). Initially I received an error that the PLM could not be found so I rearranged the plugs, rebooted and everything worked fine.
  20. Ok - thanks! I will give this a try.
  21. Hi - I have a new installation of Insteon, including an ISY994i and PLM (2413S) as step one. My router is in a network hub closet with only one outlet and this outlet has a large UPC which controls a number of items. It is clearly stated that either a filter is needed for this second plug on the outlet, or I need to place my PLM and ISY somewhere else. My question is: Does the ISY need to be plugged directly in the ROUTER, or can it attach to my network elsewhere, more specifically to a network SWITCH located in another part of the house (with less electronic gear). Thanks!
