  1. Those two statements lead me to conclude that the sensor IS sending out state change announcements, and that ISY/PLM database is not corrupt (computers general always work, or always don't). The random nature of your failure suggests to me that there is something keeping the insteon messages from reaching your PLM. Were this me, I would be doing some troubleshooting to identify the possibility of comm errors. I can tell you that I use garage sensor status and control as conditions for programs, and it works well. I don't believe there is a programmatic reason for this not to work. thanks for the reply...given there isn't a programming reason for it not working, I ordered a couple of access points to insure communications are being sent/received properly. John.
  2. I have two new IOLincs linked to a keypad controlling 2 garage doors. When I press the keypad A button, it flashes twice, the door opens, and the A button stays on. When I press the A button again, the button flashes twice, the door closes, and the light goes off once the door is fully closed (about 15 seconds). Perfect (thanks to the Wiki)! Problems arise when I use the sensor value to trigger lights via a program. While the keypad button always indicates the correct sensor value, ISY does not. Consequently, I open the door, keypad button A is on but the value in ISY is unchanged until queried. Occasionally, ISY will update the value based on the sensor value changing but it gets out of sync with the correct value. I've tried reading all the threads and some seem to indicate that the issue was an old IOLinc issue with the IOLinc not sending the sensor value. However, given that my keypadlinc buttons do change correctly regardless of how the sensor value is changed (via keypad button, remote control, or manually), I'm stumped as to what the cause/solution is. I have momentary B and trigger reverse selected. When door is closed Sensor is ON. Ideas? thanks, John.
  3. If this is correct, then that means the PLM must be linked to the IOLinc or at least one other device in the network, is that right?
  4. Lee - does that mean all my pre-2012 devices are vulnerable to an unscrupulous neighbor? Or if I have at least one 2012 device, is the entire network security hole is plugged?
  5. no I assume the same. I don't believe there is any need to link it to anything if your only purpose is to use it as a repeater of insteon commands. thanks...I wasn't sure about the need to link it to at least one insteon device so that it knows what network it belongs to. Otherwise, couldn't a neighbor buy a 2413U and start scanning (would probably take a long time to do) all the insteon device codes to arrive at the correct one to open a garage door?!
  6. I have a 2413U that i want to use as an access point (not to link ISY994 to the network). However, when I try to link it to isy, it gives me an unsupported device error message (why?). Not showing up on the ISY network may not be an issue as I only want it to rebroadcast RF commands to a detached garage. Anyone see any issues in using it in this manner? I assume the 2413U will work as it can still be linked to another insteon device to listen to all the network commands and to rebroadcast them in an indiscriminate manner. thanks, John.
  7. thanks guys... happy to report that the console launches properly and the color bar issues in the UI are fixed. I receive my zwave dongle tomorrow and will report back on functionality. JOhn.
  8. My firmware is 4.02 but my UI is 4.01, should it also be 4.02? Clearing Java cache doesn't fix the console launch issues for me.
  9. In my case, i get the red flag and exclamation mark when my laptop awakes from sleep mode. Is there any way to reconnect with the isy without closing the admin console and restarting it? Logon doesn't work.
  10. Installed fine. Couple of notes: 1. when selecting Desert theme (likely applies to all themes as it did in 4.01), a blue bar from the default theme remains horizontally in the tabs area. Same default blue remains around the devices to be adjusted on the scene page. 2. I still need to click on the isy finder to launch the admin control panel John.
  11. When you click on the desktop icon it runs the ISY Finder (not Firefox). Prior to 4.0.1 the Finder would look for your ISY and when found launch the Admin Console which covers the window of the ISY Finder. With 4.0.1 the ISY Finder doesn't launch the Admin Console. You should see the ISY Finder window with the address of the ISY in the Window. Double click on that will launch the Admin Console. thanks a lot Andy...where were you prior to my spending 2 hours running through all sorts of uninstall/clear/reload gyrations?
  12. thanks Andy... In actuality, I'm not using Firefox ( i don't think), I'm clicking on a desktop icon to access the admin panel. when i use a firefox page, it works fine.
  13. bingo, clicking on the line in the finder brings up the admin panel! What's strange is that despite 2 factory isy resets and about 100 java cache empties and java reinstalls, the about panel shows 4.0.1 UI and 3.3.10 firmware - weird.
  14. the correct isp address and uuid are in finder...when i add them by selecting the Add button, the same ip address and uuid remain in the finder. I emailed a screen shot.
  15. I cleared the Java cache again, the applet downloaded again, but I'm only getting the isy finder. If I re-enable Java in my Firefox browser, I can launch the admin panel successfully from the web page. I've also removed all Java versions and reinstalled Java V7-15 on two computers with the same result. I also did a factory reset on the isy with no success or change. I went back to v3.3.10 firmware with no change, only the isy finder box appears no matter what I try. John Do you have the same problem? With kind regards, Michel
  16. yes, it does find the correct ip address because when i enter that ip address followed by: /WEB/INDEX.HTM it loads my lighting page and its fully functional. is it possible 4.01 didn't load fully and needs to be reinstalled? I also tried installing the admin panel from the settings page on my lighting but has the same non working result. I installed firmware for the ISY 994i Series as i have a 994 ir pro...i assume the ISY 994i Z & ZS Series firmware is for the zigbee 994 version and not a zwave version.
  17. I loaded 4.01 and it works without issues so far. A couple of notes, I had to power down the isy after the upgrade to get it recognized. After reading about the new color UI, I decided to clear Java cache, and disable Java on web browser. However, when I select the new Admin Console icon on my desktop, the ISY Finder will load and finds the ISY but the Password query box doesn't popup so I'm not able to load the full admin panel. When I try to load the last previously stored backup, nothing happens. Ideas? FYI, I found the instructions on the 4.01 beta announcement page (first page of this thread) to be confusing so it's highly likely I did something incorrectly! thanks, John.
  18. very clever! now I now know what the network module is for! thanks again.
  19. great feedback, thanks. How do you use isy to control the camera? For me, a 5-15 second lag would be okay in the daytime as i believe some cameras can be set to ftp images that occur prior to motion being detected (they must be caching images on a continual basis to internal memory)....thoughts on the usefulness of this? Also, what is the isy rest command? i searched the manual to no avail. JOhn. At the moment, there is no way of sensing motion at the cam and notifying the ISY without a third party monitoring the cam and alerting the ISY via the rest interface. I tested this using my pogoplug. I configured the cams to upload images to the ftp running on my pogoplug. I have a script that watches for files in the ftp folders and issues a rest command to the ISY when files are detected. While this works, the lag from actual motion to ISY reaction was variable from 5 up to 15 seconds and I decided that was more or less useless. Now I just rely on standard motion sensors and other insteon traffic. As for the integration of video and lighting, I have my ISY point my PTZ cams based on motion detected by motion sensors or when certain switches are controlled or garage doors open/close or triggerlincs turn on. If the house is in away mode or vacant mode the ISY enables the record on video motion feature of the cams and if after sunset , ISY brings up suitable lighting so that I can capture a good image of whats going on. If the house was just vacant and not in away mode, after a 2 minute delay, i stop capturing images on video motion detected otherwise I continue to capture until a manual reset. -Xathros
  20. thanks...i think the remote access would be good to have...since houselinc is now free, the price difference is substantial. I have an ir linc, is there any reason i should buy the isy with ir capabilities? Can anyone talk about integrating ip cameras (or lack of integration) with isy... can ip camera motion detection trigger insteon events? It seems redundant to have insteon motion detectors everywhere i have an ip camera in order to then create an insteon action.
  21. I know a lot of users rave about the isy and its flexibility. What are the key benefits of isy over houselinc other than the ability to leave the PC off and let the isy run any needed programs? I haven't done a lot with houselinc yet, but at first glance, it does appear powerful. thanks. John.
  22. thanks again, got it to work on a different computer...probably a device driver issue. Thank goodness i didn't buy it recently...
  23. hmmm...can't get 2.9.59 at this time, latest update is 2.9.56....i tried updating device drivers too but no go.
  24. good input Lee.... I didn't think houselinc was free, last time I checked (yesterday) HL wouldn't work/recognize my 2413U. Previously, I had been told by Insteon support that i had to purchase a "special" 2413u to work with houselinc though i now see the Houselinc package they sell comes with a USB dongle of sorts. I will double check again. Using HL v. 2.9.56 and when i try to manually set up the plm, i can select 2413u but the "next" button is greyed out. John.
  25. good answers, thank you very much. is there a place here to sell a slightly used 2413U?
