  1. Hi all, I have an occasional problem where all the devices in my network are triggered on, apparently by an Insteon motion detector (link to this problem here). Although I did narrow it down to a motion detector-triggered event, the problem was never solved. Most of the devices that get triggered during this anomalous event are just lights and are of little consequence, but one of the devices that gets triggered is a Insteon relay that I use to open/close the garage door which is a bit more of an issue for me. To mitigate the unsolvable problem, I would like to receive a notification if the garage door relay is triggered. Unfortunately, the rouge commands that triggers all my devices on (and consequently opens the door) isn't the result of a program and I'm not sure how to do this or if it is possible. TLDR; I have notifications setup for program-triggered events, but I'd like to have a status change of a device send a notification if possible. Thanks for any input. :Mike
  2. Here are the preceeding events. The "Beeps" are triggered by the motion sensor on the door and are used as an alert. 4. Hi all, Obligatory thank yous in advance, this forum has been a great source of information. Over the last few days, the lights in my house have been triggered on without my input. Sometimes it is one light (on a keypad link), and most recently it was every device on my network all at once (approx 20 devices of various types, including an I/O link used to control garage door!). The events do not occur at any regular time or in concurrence with any other activity on the Insteon network that I know of. And, there are no programs that include every device, so I can't imagine it was a programmed event. When I look at the logs, it shows the events occurring, but I cannot tell what triggered them. Is it possible that some local RF source is causing the problem? Or possibly that the ISY box is being accessed from outside (I have a static NAT setup thru router, but do not use the default user/password). Quite disturbing, any ideas how to troubleshoot? Thanks!
  5. You are right, I screwed-up the name of the module. Insteon says: "Please note that INSTEON Wireless Open/Close Sensor (2843-222) is the new product name and number of TriggerLinc (2421)." So, it is a triggerlinc not a togglelinc. That said, I think your solution will work - it makes sense logically. Let me give it a try and see. Thank you
  6. Hi all, I have a togglelinc on my front door, and a motion sensor on front gate. Both work fine, but I'd like to combine them in a way that the condition of the togglelinc determines what program runs when the motion sensor is triggered. That is, if the front door (togglelinc) is open and motion detector is triggered then action1 is performed, but if front door (togglelinc) is closed and motion detector is triggered then action12 is performed. I'm not sure how to do this because togglelinc doesn't seem to indicate a current state (open or closed), it just reports a change in state (when door is opened or closed). I'm not sure how to write the program do "check" the togglelinc. I am looking at docs, but thought I'd ask the forum to see if there is a "smart" way to do this. Thanks any/all. :Mike
  7. The beeps are not loud, but they can be made to happen in a lot of places so that helps! I'm using the beeps as a stopgap measure for chimes, but still looking for a more comprehensive solution. The idea of an I/Olinc and doorbell is a good one and I may try that later. Right now, I'm going ot try to figure somehting out with no new equipment as my SO continues to see these packages from Irvine, CA on the doorstep. Anyway I'll say again, this forum is great. Thanks for the help. :Mike
  8. OK, thanks to all. I've got that program working, and learned a bit while doing it.
  9. I see a "beep duration" setting, is there a way to make one or more of my Insteon devices beep? I have switchlincs, outletlincs and keypads. And, back to the original problem (Sorry for jumping around). I can't get the trigger/response to work correctly by following the examples above. I have a program "Door Trigger" that says: If Motion Sensor is on and light1 is at 100% Then Run "Door Responder" The "Door Responder" program says: set lamp1 fast on wait 2 seconds set lamp1 fast off wait 2 seconds set lamp1 fast on wait 2 seconds set lamp1 100% (to return lamp1 to its previous level of 100%) Problem is, lamp1 continues to cycle on/off way beyond the 3 blinks I have asked for. I think Door Trigger program gets triggered again b/c the motion sensor is still ON. I tried setting timeout for MS at .5, and I tried sending a "set motion sensor off" command through the program, but I don't think the device supports those options. Sorry if I'm being thick.
  10. This is not technically on-topic, but maybe someone has already come-up with a creative solution for how to use the motion sensor for a "doorbell"? Blinking a household light is somewhat effective (above problems notwithstanding), but it isn't an exact fit. Maybe a sound as well? I have an outletlinc that I can plug something into, but not sure what to plug into it. Thoughts?
  11. Thank you for the replies. I'm going to play with these ideas and see what I can make happen. Will report back. :Mike
  12. Hi all, I am playing with my new Motion Sensor, and have run across a puzzle. Hope I can get some suggestions. I'd like the sensor to trigger a scene that blinks one or two lights in the house when it is triggered (using it as a "doorbell"). I can write a program that flashes the lights (turns a scene on/off in succession), but once the program is run the light will either be left ON or OFF regardless of its status before the scene was triggered. It would be nice if I could somehow return the lights that were blinking to their previous state when the program was completed. Like maybe query the device for the on state and use that variable to return the devices when the program is done. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks. :Mike Walker (walkman9999)
  13. Moving it to the top level was the trick, thanks all.
  14. Thanks for reply. If I right-click on the device, I do not seem to have a "Replace with...." option. (see attached)
  15. I'm replacing hardware (switchlinc for switchlinc) and would like to pull the old switchlinc and have its link database copied onto the brand new replacement. I am experimenting with the "restore device" option, but I think it will be looking for the old Insteon ID. Is there a way to copy the old link database to the new device or do I have to add the new one and manually re-create the links? I have a feeling the answer is obvious, but I cannot find. Thanks any/all.
  16. Thanks Bill, I like the paradigm of simplifying things rather than using the complex solution I was getting myself into. Seems like keeping it as simple as possible leaves more avenues open as the requirements change. Appreciate the input, I'm considering this problem solved! :Mike
  17. That seems to work wonderfully. However, while testing I realized that I use the formerly separate scenes when adjusting lighting via mobilelinc. I suppose I could just have the former "High Hang" and "Low Hang" scenes still exist and not associated with the keypadlinc buttons anymore so that they were accessible through mobilelinc. Would this be the most "graceful" way to accomplish this? Or is there a better solution? (As an aside, I find this forum to be invaluable, and appreciate the great advice!!) :Mike EDIT: The only problem I see with the above solution is that when a scene is activated via mobilelinc, there is no keypad indication that the scene is "on". So someone local to house would not have an accurate status of the scenes. (Admittedly, this is a bit pedantic!) EDIT #2: I think I figured it out! If I add "B" and "D" as responders to both "High Hang" and "Low Hang", they will reflect the status of the scene even if it is triggered via mobilelinc. And, those same buttons can still be controllers of my new scene that has various light levels. Would still like confirmation as to whether this is the best way to accomplish my goal if anyone cares to comment. Thanks all!
  18. Good day all, I have two mutually exclusive scenes that should never be on at the same time. One is the lower light version of the other. Each scene has a keypadlinc button assigned as a controller. Lower light scene ("Low Hang") uses button "B", the higher light level ("High Hang") uses button "C" across all my keypads. Is it possible to have scene "B" turn scene "C" off when it is activated, and to have scene "C" turn off scene "B"? Thank you for any input. :Mike
  19. That was it. Switched to 8 minutes and all is well. Great forum, very helpful answers in here. Thank you.
  20. Hi all, Standard disclaimer, I'm still learning the ISY-99i, and the Insteon system, but I've looked around the forum and not found an answer other than that my devices may be too old to work with the ramp rate feature. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated, and happy to run more tests. Thanks in advance. :Mike I have the same problem with all the scenes, but a typical scenario is below. I have a scene that includes 7 Switchlinc devices. They are: 2 x 2476D Switchlinc Dimmer W/Beeper v.40 2 x 2477D Dual-band Switchlinc Dimmer v.40 2486D Dual-band Keypadlinc 8 button v.40 2 x 2477D Dual-band Switchlinc Dimmer v.41 If I adjust the local ramp rate, the ramp rate works as expected when I use the physical switch. But when I create a scene including these devices and it seems to ignore the ramp rate specified in the scene and use whatever the local ramp rate is set to. I'd like to use the 9m ramp rate to have lights come on very slowly. As it is, even with the scene ramp rate set to 9m, the lights come on with 4.5 second ramp rate, which is what the local rate is set to. One other thing, the scene doesn't use a switch for a controller, the devices are all responders and I use a simple ISY-99 program as the controller for this scene (If time is 9pm, then set scene ON). I get the same results when I trigger the scene from MobileLinc PRO. I wasn't sure if the problem was related to having a scene with no device as controller, so as a test I made one of the switches a controller for the scene and I had same results. I run diagnostics on the scene and it shows no obvious errors (pasted below). And I don't seem to have any other communication problems in this network that includes about 15 devices.
