Garage is listed under device, would it still be able to be used like "garage lights" What about the word "LED's"? Thanks Jim

Michel - my comments in no way we're meant to be negative, I love this stuff and I love that we get to be on the cutting edge but I also would hate for anyone to get a black eye because someone thinks that this should have had more development time before being shared, as long as everyone has the right mindset then keep the alpa and beta's coming! Thanks and keep up the good work!

I have also spent quite a bit of time over the last two days playing with both the UDI skill and other Alexa integrations(skills) mainly the IFTTT. Obviously Alexa can handle more complex phrases as it does a very good job in IFTTT. I have several recipes that include 4 or 5 word phrases and elexa has about a 99% accuracy with understanding what I am asking for. The other thing is with IFTTT you can type in any phrase when you are creating a recipe and it is able to understand it. I fully appreciate the effort that UDI is putting into these integrations but if it's release was a bit premature (because the second certification will make it better) maybe it's launch should be reconsidered? Again, don't get me wrong I think we all appreciate the effort but I personally would rather see the engineers and developers spending time making the skill rock solid vs. trying to get this version sort of working! I can't say thank you enough UDI, this stuff really is cutting edge! Keep up the great work with whatever direction you decide! Thanks Jim

I have the same and it works fine!

See my post above as I also had issues with the word light, seems to not like that word!

First off, Thanks for getting this out there! I promptly went out and ordered the portal module. Also thank you for working through this, I can imagine its difficult sometimes to get all of this stuff working together! I got everything setup and wanted to provide my feedback so it can help those working on debugging it! As you already know it doesn't like the word "lights", maybe that's a protected word because it would be used with so many other skills? I also found that it doesn't like three spoken words, it just seems to ignore the last word. again, I think you guys know some of the issues but below are things I have tried and whether it worked or not, keep in mind. I was always working with one insteon device and always told alexa to refresh between changes to the spoken word Spoken Word: Worked(yes/no): reason: living lights yes living lights near no dropped the word near from what was heard living near no ignored the word near, only heard "living" living fan big no heard the correct phrase but returned with "could not find device called living fan" living big no heard the correct phrase but returned with "could not find device called living" living fan yes living room near no heard the correct phrase but returned with "could not find device called living room" living room yes living yes kitchen living yes kitchen room no heard the correct phrase but returned with "could not find device called kitchen"

Are these really two of the big selling points? A service like dyndns.org (for a little money each year) solves the changing ip issue (pretty easily also) and port forwarding is also pretty straight forward! I would think if you have an ISY and you are leveraging home automation you could configure port forwarding? Maybe not?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! That's exactly what I was looking for! So for me I think I am going to abandon the nest and go with another insteon thermostat! This will allow me to do more controls then I have today with the nest and avoid me dumbing down the nest to satisfy my need. I can also avoid a PI(at least for now) as part of my arsenal since it sounds like all the integration I will want with Alexa will be available soon enough with the isy and a portal subscription! One last thing, is there a thread or any discussion of exactly how the isy skill will work and what options/flexibility it will have or is UDI keeping it a surprise until launch? Oh and another last thing . Do you know if the skill will work with 4.3.x or will we need to upgrade to 5? Thanks Jim

Thanks for the information. maybe you can help me answer these questions? I think answers to these will help point me in a specific direction. 1. What does the Alexa skill being developed by UDI get me that a hue bridge and a mapper doesn't? This will make the difference of whether I add a PI to my environment or use the skill for native integration. 2. With the changes in certificates will this allow me to talk directly to my nest via a network resource? I don't believe this is possible today because of some https issue or url redirect? Thanks Jim

First off, if this isn't the best place to post this please feel free to move it! It seems like there is a lot going on with integration and new enhancements which is exciting but also frustrating! I am at a point where I am trying to determine the best path to take but I am having trouble finding clear descriptions of what features 5.0 and the isy portal bring to all of this. Here are my questions, maybe someone here that is closer to evertything going on can help? 1. What exactly are the new features in 5.x and how do they compliment or compete with other options like echo integration using hue bridge and a "mapper"? 2. Does the isy portal add significant capability to the isy outside of not having to setup port forwarding (which I am doing today with mobilinc and it works fine) 3. I hear significant changes are coming to network module in 5.x, does most of the benefit come only if you also purchase the isy portal? Can I control my nest natively? Can I integrate with my echo natively? Basically I am making some shifts in hardware and I am trying to figure out the right direction? I have a nest which I have "sort of" integrated with my isy by using IFTTT, I am simulating away mode based on geofence so I basically have all the fancy features of the nest turned off so I can control with the ISY. This sort of defeats the purpose of the nest so I am thinking of swapping it out for an insteon thermostat(which I have two of and they work pretty good) I just bought an echo which I have integrated using the hue bridge and a mapper but I have it running on a Windows 7 machine, again thinking about getting a pi to run this on but if this functionality is coming to the isy natively then maybe that would be the right path. Just looking for some detailed product roadmap direction Thanks in advance Jim

Very helpful, thanks!! I will take a peek at the SDK kit!

Yeah I understand the downside but it doesn't change its cool factor! Frankly I hope Amazon does a bit to make Alexa more personable? I spent an hour tonight speaking commands to Alexa to control my lighting via my ISY and got really tired of the same old "ok" response! At least Siri changes up her response when responding to certain requests!
-
I think you missed the point... This thread is about echo integration. I know I can do that with geofencing and mobilinc (I am doing it today) but the main cool factor would be to get the personalized responses from the echo. Kinda like Star Trek!
-
So I was just thinking how cool would it be if we could control how echo responds to our requests. An example: I come home and say "Alexa, I am home" this triggers a program in my ISY which turns on some living room lights, sets the thermostat, turns on the TV, etc. once this is completed the ISY sends a command to the Alexa which tells Alexa how to respond where she says something like. " Welcome home James, I have turned on the living room lights, set the thermostat to 72 and turned on the tv for you!" Now that would be cool!!

Thanks! I got impatient and got the hue emulator running yesterday and used g1of4's mapping program, seems to work really well from my windows 7 machine! Is this a decent combo or does what Barrygordon have offer better functionality? While I am talking about functionality, does anyone know if the official echo skill will allow more flexibility around the "friendly names". It would be cool to not have to say "on" or "off" Thanks Jim

Trying to avoid reading 40+ pages, as I have already read 30 other pages on this forum tonight alone! I just got my echo today and want to try one of the emulators but looking for some basic pros and cons on why I would go with the hue vs. the Wemo? Thanks Jim

Yup, mine too!

Yup, I think I am going to buy one!! Any idea on when the skill will be available? God I love technology!!

Last night I was leaving my garage and when I turned off the garage lights (controlled by insteon switch) about 3 seconds later every device in my house and garage that is being controlled by Insteon came on. I checked my ISY log and it didn't record any of the devices being turned on so I don't think this came from the ISY. What else could cause this? I would think this sort of major "signal on" could only come from something like the PLM? Anyone else see this before? Thanks Jim
