I am able to login to portal, Alexa discovers my devices but none of the commands work! Wife just asked "why doesn't it always just work?" This isn't helping with the WAF!
-
Me too!
-
No worries! Thanks for being on top of it!
-
Me either. Portal maintenance was yesterday morning early right? It seemed to be working yesterday without any issue!
-
Very good, off to do some reading! Thanks!!

Thanks guys! Any reason to look at an actual foscam vs. the smart home branded one?
-
Is this true for all IP cameras or just the ones mentioned above?

Ok, so here it goes..... Looking for a cheap (within reason) PTZ wifi camera that can be fully controlled via the ISY network module. Looking to be able to adjust position, start and stop recording to an FTP site, etc. it would also be nice to have the motion in the camera be able to also send a command to the ISY but this isn't critical as I could do what I need with Insteon MS. I would prefer to have something that communicates directly to the ISY vs going through a pi or similiar. I have a NAS that I will use as the FTP server to house the snapshots or vid clips. Camera quality is not extremely important, yes I want a decent picture but it doesn't need to be 4K! outdoor rated is also not required but would be nice! Real world experience using the capability I listed above would be awesome! Ok, ready, set, go!!

I sent the following email to Amazon.... Alexa used to say "ok" when confirming a response, then she started just using a tone to confirm response (which was nicer than the "ok) and now it's back to "ok". Why do you keep changing it and why are you not telling the consumer when you are going to make these changes? They responded with a typical canned response explaining that I can update at any time via the Alexa app! Yeah thanks, that's exactly what I asked!! LOL Follows up with this email.... I asked the question as to why Echo used to say "ok" to confirm commands, then ok was replaced with a tone and now its back to "ok" The person that responded gave me the canned response (probably out of some customer service book). What I want to know is why Amazon makes changes to their software without any notification to the consumer. I can imagine that if every consumer called amazon every time they made an undocumented change, echo tech support would be very busy! My question is very simple. Why doesn't Amazon publish release notes for when they make changes to the functionality of the device? Other major software developers (Apple, Microsoft, etc.) publish release notes or provide documentation, why doesn't Amazon? And got this response.... Hello James, Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts about the OK prompt on your Alexa devise. I would like to give you an answer that doesn't sound canned and that would address your concern. At this moment I do not have one. Most answers are in the official Amazon Echo help and FAQ page or on the Customer Questions and Answers section. I understand that you would like to have Amazon publish release notes for when they make changes to the functionality of the device besides the weekly news on Alexa sent to customers on a weekly basis there isn't a release not at present. I’ve passed your suggestion to our development team. I do apologize for any issue this may cause you, we really want you to feel supported a 100% always. At least it wasn't another canned response! Guess I will wait to see if development responds, probably not

Completely agree. I think this is the only internet connected device I have ever owned where the manufacturer just pushes changes without any input or communication with the consumer (and frankly I don't care for it). I ran through the a list of connected devices I own.. Isy Xbox one DVD player Apple TV iPhones iPads Asus router Ip camera's Not one of these devices will install an update without letting the consumer know and then the echo comes along.... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the echo but them making changes whenever they want is annoying!

And now she is back to saying "ok"! Anyone else notice this?
-
Not directly but depending on what you have for hardware you can probably do it. I know you can do it with a pi and an isy and some custom code (which you can find on here) if you have a hub you might be able to do it with IFTTT. Might help if you provide which components you have

Awesome work! I will give it a whirl tomorrow!!! Thanks Benoit, Michel and UDI in general!

Thanks for the quick reply michel! Anyone else have any clever ways of maybe tracing inconsistent issues with a program? Thanks Jim
-
I have a couple programs that seem to execute inconsistently and I was wondering if there is a log somewhere that shows the execution steps of a program similar to the log for devices? Unfortunately some of these programs are using notifications etc. so I can't look to see if a device turned on or off because that isn't what the program does. I checked the error log and there are no errors so I assume it is executing (it shows the last run time to be in line with when it should run) but the notification doesn't happen.

Hmmmm!! That's funny because I don't ever remember having to do this before but it worked! Thanks!! Boy it's tough getting old!!

So I rebooted my isy to try and fix a different issue and now Alexa is broken. If I ask her to turn off bar lights, the light ring spins for 3-5 seconds and then she says something like that command doesn't work for device "bar lights" If I go into the portal I am unable to add any new spoken links to devices, programs, etc. but I can delete the ones that are there. I was going to unlink everything and start from scratch but thought I would check here first. Also if I unlink will I lose my ability to reconnect if more than 450 people have already connected? Thanks Jim

So I have a repeatable issue that a discovered tonight and I am not sure what would cause it. If I delete a program from the admin Java console, close the console and start it back up my programs I deleted are back. If I make a change to the program and do the same log out/log in procedure the changes are retained which I would expect. What would cause me to not be able to delete programs? Is the portal somehow retaining a copy of all the settings and programs? I did enable the Alexa connected home beta yesterday, not sure if this problem existed before then or not! Any ideas?

Awesome Awesome Awesome!! Nice job guys! It was worth the wait. I currently have 5 devices and 6 programs all working perfectly. If you tell a program to turn "on" it runs what is in the "Then" section and if you tell it to turn "off" it runs what it is the "else" section. Not one issue with Alexa understanding the spoken words! I do have one question, Do you know if it will be possible to have programs execute by saying "Alexa run (program spoken name)"? and have it execute the "If" portion of the program? I know this has not been fully tested yet but was wondering if any thought had been given to the trigger words for programs? Thanks Jim

Level one support was frustrating, had me unplug all the lights and my hue bridge, wait 2 minutes and plug them all back in. Since I don't really have any bulbs or hue bridge I just sat there waiting patiently! Had to scramble when he asked which hue bulbs I had. I told him a hue lux and at the same time was googling to get a model number in case they asked! He proceeded to tell me that Phillips just pushed an update to their bridge and that he didn't think the lux bulbs were supported anymore. I proceeded to explain to him that sometimes they work and other times they don't so they are still supported! At this point I was starting to raise my voice at which point he patched me through to level 2 By the time I finally got to level 2 support (who was going to contact development) the lights were working better (I think they did something on their end and didn't tell me) Every since the phone call they have been working flawlessly (except for the discovery, that sometimes takes 3-4 times to work) I asked them several times if there were issues on the cloud side but they never gave me a straight answer. I also voiced my disapproval of how they can just make changes to the cloud based services and break stuff and then leave it up to the consumer to have to log a complaint!
-
I just called amazon and spent an hour with them and I am no further along. Obviously they are changing stuff in the background! This is the problem with cloud based services is there is no patch to download and install so the end user never knows what's coming! so here is what I have seen that has changed over the last few days Things in " " is the friendly name as defined in the emulator What used to work was Alexa run "bar" lights. Now only Alexa turn on "bar" or Alexa turn off "bar" The reason I used run was because I have programs that are checking the current state of the light and performing the opposite. Kinda silly to have to say turn off if the light is on, of course you want to turn it off. appending lights to the end of the phrase even though its not part of the friendly name also worked but not anymore. I also have a lot of problems getting it to discover devices after a change. I can try 4 or 5 times and nothing, then wait 5 minutes and try again and it works! Very frustrating!!!!

Same here! The WAF factor just took a big hit!!

Also watching this thread as I am very close to pulling the trigger on a harmony. I will tell you that IFTTT is very very powerful and they are adding cabability everyday but if you are looking for something that provides almost instant response I think you will be disappointed with IFTTT. Some days it's really good and other days it could take 20-30 seconds for it to trigger. I just learned this hard lesson when trying to use IFTTT to bridge the gap between my echo and my isy for lighting, etc. I finally ended up buying a pi and running the bwssystems ha-bridge which doesn't rely on cloud services. Again I still use IFTTT for some things but mainly for things that are not time sensitive. Just my 2 cents!

finally read all 53 pages, it was worth the read! Huge thanks to Barry, BWS and blueman! The contributions and debugging efforts are what made the 50+ pages worth the read. I am happy to say I now have the ha-bridge and the AWS config tool running well on a windows 7 machine and working pretty nicely with my ISY and echo. I also ordered a pi 2 so I can get all of this working on the pi. I am also thinking of pulling the trigger on the harmony elite which includes the hub. This would be to replace my 12 year old URC MX-800. Just wanted to say thanks! Great work everyone! Thanks Jim
