Just to make sure we are talking about the same app, I'm looking at rogertalk.com.........
-
Do you just set up Alexa as a radio connection?
-
Roger looks like a 2-way radio application like Zello, I don't see an Alexa connection. Am I missing something?
-
For those who like to use Alexa from their smartphones, a new application was released to Apple App Store this week that allows you to do just that. The app is called Lexi and costs $5 (rounded up). You can see a demo on their website at heylexi.com. It has a couple of limitations such as not supporting Amazon Music or books but I wouldn't use them on my iPhone anyway (too large of an investment in iTunes). The application is a tap-to-use type of app that requires you to tap and hold the screen while you talk to Alexa (just like Zello and other 2-way radio type apps). This also prevents any interference with Siri and eliminates the need for a wake up word. I do not have an Amazon Echo (yet) so I have not connected anything to my ISY. I am in the process of signing up for the ISY Portal so I start using Alexa with my home automation. This allows for a cheap intro for using Alexa (again with the above stated limitations) without buying the hardware up front. JP

That makes very good sense, the location in the carport is not far away from an AP but it might be bouncing the signal around because of some barriers. I wasn't thinking of a communication issue as I was getting a good motion indication every time I tested it but maybe it is not seeing the response. On the bench, I have a dual bank outlet inches away from where I test. And yes, when I tried jumper 2, I did remove jumper 5. I was trying to see if doing it locally had any difference than using the ISY-99. I don't have a readily available solution to my problem but at least I know the problem now. Thanks again,
-
I have a v2 motion detector that works just fine in my carport. However, I'd like the LED to not flash when it detects motion. I have tried both jumper 2 and using the Set Options panel on the Admin Console to turn off the LED. In testing on the workbench, both methods seem to work and yet when I put the detector back in its place in carport, the LED starts flashing again. It is a little frustrating. Anyone had a similar problem or know what stupid thing I might be doing (or more likely not doing)?

I just installed my first RemoteLinc 2. The strange thing is the numbering of the buttons is right to left then top to bottom (almost like the put the board in backwards). Not what I'd expect. Instead of: A=1 B=2 C=3 D=4 etc. What it has is: A=2 B=1 C=4 D=3 etc. Anyone else seeing this? It does seem work and I'll rename them anyway but it just took me by surprise.

Thanks for the info, I happen to be looking that the TS-16 earlier this week. I might try the TS1 MEI version before investing in the larger models.

Zellarman, which portserver are you using?
-
Making the change to the program and saving it again appears to have corrected the problem. Thank you,
-
Yes, that is correct. I will try your suggestion and watch for tomorrow morning's execution.
-
Yes, the program is enabled and the last run time was: Heater Off (daily) Heater Off (daily) On - Idle True Tue Mar 01 07:30:00 PST 2011 Tue Mar 01 07:30:00 PST 2011 Wed Mar 02 07:30:00 PST 2011 On the Event log, that would explain it. I have another PC that is starting the Admin Console inadvertently.
-
Another minor observation (problem), I sometimes run the Event Viewer for extended timeframes to try and capture strange events (troubleshooting). Normally this works just fine and I typically save and clear its log twice a day (and restart the viewer) if I run it for more than a day. I normally set the Event Viewer to "Device Communications Events" (old level 3). However, since moving to 2.8.16 (from 2.8.12 BTW), the log stops recording anything beyond "Status/Operational Events" (old level 1) sometime in the wee hours of the morning. Yesterday, I started the viewer are 13:36 and it ran fine until 05:37 when it seemed to change its recording level. I am pasting a part of the event log to show the issue. BTW, I have a program that issues a general Query (all devices) at 6:00 AM every morning and I would expect to see that traffic in the event log starting at 06:00. I have a very simple program that turns down the heater every weekday morning at 7:30 (in case everyone leaving forgets to turn it down). This has been one of my most reliable programs. The program is "enabled" and the program summary shows that it should have fired. IF On Mon,Tue,Wed,Thu,Fri Time is 7:30:00AM Then Set 'Heating / 14.25.64-Main '60° (Heat Setpoint) Else I've noticed that it is not firing at 7:30 AM since I upgrade to 2.8.16. So far, this is the only program (out of 20+ with schedules) that appears not to be working. The log shows no command being sent out from the ISY. I only noticed it today and my first thought was that it had to do with the M-F type scheduling. I also have a pool program that is M-F (another for weekends) and I thought it might not be working as I remember having to turn on the pool manually last week. However, it fired today as expected so that is not it (my pool pump not responding to ISY commands, while not frequently, does happen). Before someone asks, this does not appear to be related to the RF adapter problem. The t-stat is being fully responsive and the log shows several status updates from the t-stat before and after the 7:30 time but no command to set the setpoint to 60.
-
BTW, a quick comment, when you select Start Linking and the panel pops up with the three options, before you press the Finish button, you need to go to the adapter and press the set button for about 5 seconds to put the adapter into linking mode (flashing light). If you don't, you get the result that you observed above and that is that the linking function didn't do anything. The adapter has to be in linking mode to use the auto discover feature in the ISY. After pushing the set button, return to the ISY and press Finish.

Or could it be that the ISY thinks that it must update a link for a scene attached to a remote's button and that is what is pending? I've had that problem before.....
-
Sorry, you're right, I was thinking at the OS level....

This sounds somewhat similar to a problem that I had with another application that needed to send emails and I was using Gmail for the SMTP output. Since the Gmail port it was using (465) needed SSL and the application did not support it, I install Stunnel (v4.nn). Think of using it like a proxy, I changed the application port to something defined in Stunnel and configured Stunnel to talk to Gmail port 465 with SSL. It has been working for years with no issues. Not sure if this helps or I misread your issue.

I upgraded to 2.8.10 and have a T-1800 t-stat (w/v2 adapter) and everything appears to be working fine for me (to the degree that anything runs fine here).

Thanks, when I clicked on a similar link earlier, it took me to a Yahoo search page, this time it worked.

I may have been dreaming but I thought that back in 2.7.x days, a Java stub application was created to allow access to the Admin Console without having to use and keep open a browser. Now that I'm awake, I've searched for this information on both the wiki and here without success. Was I dreaming or is there one and if so, where can I search for that information?

Interesting, I have observed a similar problem but have not brought it up here as I was having other problems (replacing my 2441). With the new 2441, my previous problems seem to have gone away but while I was experimenting last week, I used the Setpoint Up 1 and Setpoint Down 1 buttons. After I did, my T-1800 changed setpoints randomly causing the furnace to turn on unexpectedly. I have not tried the buttons since and haven't had the time to experiment some more since this happened. However, nothing unexpectedly has happened since. JP

I have replaced the RF adapter and the communication to the T1800 seems better now. I have only had it installed for a couple of days so it is a little too early to determine if my problem is gone yet. The old one was a v2.0 and the new one is v2.1 if that is of interest to anyone.

Just a quick update on my problem, I removed the wireless adapter from the thermostat several times and re-inserted it. It now appears to be sending updates to the AP without problems (still watching because I'm not totally sure and I'm still running my v1 query loop). Question, is there a way to turn on the fan manually from the ISY? Program mode suggests that you can turn it on but not off (no FAN OFF choice) but it does not appear to work. On the main menu, there is also not an obvious way to turn it on and off. The fan state is always ON or AUTO. Thanks, JP

And ultimately that is my plan as well. Just a few bumps in the road as I move that way.
