Timing is perfect on the last post(s) started by Bumbershoot - for me anyway.My prior usage of ISY really did not get me into variables, REST or much serious programming stuff. Now that I am doing a more extensive, and final, installation of HA in my "new" place, I guess that is where I am headed. As a self learner the learning curve is steep, but folks here have humored/kindly helped me along the way: e.g. I could not for the life of me find how to insert time into a notification and got a kind assist from Bumbershoot. Shortly thereafter I "belatedly" discovered system variables. Then I started wondering how I might get info contained in certain sensors (the AEON 6 sensor array reports various things - temp being the one of current interest) into a variable. I have been doing some searching trying to figure this one out on my own - without notable success...and voila'...Bumbershoot unwittingly helps me better understand. BUT, I also now realize that using Nodes, "Occupancy" in the Portal and POLYGLOT, means it is time to move to 5.10c. Can't do it on 4.62. Or am I wrong here ?

As I suspected. Thanks. My triggering event occurred after we had gone to bed. The dot in the bedroom was in effect" flashing" in the dark bedroom when my wife woke up inthe middle of he night and asked "what was up?" with Alexa. I then wasn't sure, but didn't want to explain my suspicions in the middle of the night. She eventually ends up liking my HA adventures, but not usually during a test and burn in phase.

I set up a test notification, designed to trigger when ISY turned off my Hot Water heater for the night. Worked like a charm, except I noticed that my Echo dots all started showing a different color... one slowly cycled a white ring on and off, another something slightly different. Stopped when I picked up the notification. Is this a design to alert a user to a notification? Or something unexpected? Or maybe I missed it somewhere.

Maybe I will "cheat" and just ask here, how can I insert the time of an event into the notification? Ex. I have a resource that notifies when he hot water heater is turned off by ISY. I'd like the notify announcement to tell me the time when it is triggered. (Sorry, I hate it when newbies just ask for knowledge and do not do their homework first, and yet here i am....)

Strong concurrence with the above. Already ISY can do so much more than I expected, and I have barely scratched the surface of possibilities. I have to admit I thought PLM was dead, and me with $1000 of X-10 and insteon devices), but with ISY, I think the importance of some of the aftermarket cures for known PLM problems (Jeff Volpe's offerrings come to mind) and the addition of Z-Wave, ISY bridges the needs nicely... and the addition of Alexa voice control etc is almost icing on the cake. My wife has always viewed my forays into HA with some skepticism, but to hear her call commands to Alexa when she thinks I cannot hear is heartening. Even she is liking the newest addition of Alexa voice control, plus the other offerrings Alexa offers (kitchen times are a popular plus).. Mobilinc is also a nice addition, though I am running the android version without the cool voice feedback. Happy to have found ISY and UDI ! -
Hope you don't mind my posting in this thread. I made the mistake (newbie) of assuming that the Mobilinc Portal would work with the Amazon Echo but discovered after buying the Mobilinc portal that it does not. I had it disabled, and followed the instructions to connect directly to ISY using the trial version of Mobilinc... worked like a charm. After a brief while I decided to continue to sue Mobilinc and bought Mobilinc Pro. However when I uninstalled lite and installed pro, using the same log in set up, no soap, would not work. So, I uninstalled Pro, rebooted by ISYand my router and cleared the Java cache, reinstalled Pro, and now I get an error message. The error message says Mobilinc is unable to connect to your lighting controller. ISY is online. Any ideas why it worked with lite and not with Pro? UPDATE: I tried uninstalling Mobilinc Pro, and rebooting my phone, reinstalling Mobilinc Pro ...and ....voila, it worked. I think it somehow was a cache issue.from my initial use of the lite version In case anyone runs into something similar. And thanks stusviews (see below post) for the heads up about Mobilinc and Wes, I checked their site and he does appear very responsive and helpul.

Add me to the list. By way of brief history, I had difficulties initially getting my ISY up and running, and had both the portal and mobilinc up and running. Thinking the mobilinc might have been causing the initial issue I asked UDI to turn it off, and after that I was able to get up and running... curious, I thought as others seem to run both the ISY portal and mobilinc fine, apparently. Well things moved along and I was enjoying my Alexa integration, and decided to see what might happen if I had UDI turn on (reactivate) my mobilinc. Yesterday they did, I did my part and lo and behold, mobilinc... cool little app....BUT!! no Alexa. When I looked to see what was up, I find in my.isy.io that it says ISY not online, and that it went offline at about 7:39 PM yesterday, about the same time I activated mobilinc add on. Is there some known bug where the ISY PORTAL and mobilinc won't play together? The fact that Mobilinc works tends to suggest somehow I have connectivity via the cloud. So, I guess I need to decide which is more important to me, Alexa or mobilinc, for now.

I am a relative newbie here and with Alexa, but in my limited experience with Alexa, I think one way would be to use a DOT, and wire the Dot (hardwire) to the line input on your Onkyo and play it that way. Your Onkyo would have to always be on, unless if has a wake up feature when a signal is present. The Echo will not provide an output signal to anything, the DOT will.

Thanks Michel/Blueman... I will post a screen shot tonight. I had read in the thread of others problems, issues with copying etc, and so carefully (I thought) typed it in, and carefully (so I thought) compared it... but as I grew tired I thought maybe I was chasing the wrong thing, wondering if maybe my portal (in which I had never used the networking portion before) might the issue, hence my prior Q, But now assured the problem is likely me, I will do as you suggest. Kind of you to offer your time to assist in this fashion. -

Great thread. I am new to ISY and added Alexa, and finding s steep learning curve, but worth it, this is icing on the cake. I too am getting the dreaded TCP client request failed. [Net module Rule 1:400] I have checked and rechecked and done manual data entry to be sure, everything is ok... any ideas where the root problem likely lies when you get that error message? Thanks ! -

Thank again Stu.... figured it was something like that. However as this is for now "proof of concept" trial for a new house....I am gonna be a little shy. BUT, do want to explore that in the end stages of POC, by August, so hope I can rely on your expertise on this....some...<g>. I am an old hand at X-10 (almost 25 years) and somewhat of an Insteon newbie., like 8 years worth, mainly integrated it for my x-10 system needs when it added to it.. Z-Wave is new to me and I am learning as I go. Forums are always great... have helped and learned on them.

Thank Stu... however a cautionary tale lies here. You are right I did not have the Mobilinc portal, just the offered add on of Mobilinc. And as it turned out, that was the problem here. Once disabled the problem disappeared. I think problems may yet lurk in that marriage. I would like to utilize both the ISY portal AND Mobilinc.... But at startup I am jut going to sideline that until I get more proficient. I've been in HA since the 80's and feel like a dinosaur coming to all this..(I even did voice control when you practically had to pirate the AT&T voices!) Great stuff today, and ISY is pretty awesome! I would be derelict not to mention to product/customer support... simply the best I have ever encountered. Bar none. If you are lurking and considering investing an an ISY system, but fear the "dragon" of a high end system and jargon, etc... jump in, UD staff will be there for you!! (cannot say that for some others by experience) It is an awesome time to be in HA. A tip of my hat to Michel Kohanim for the assistance..

I just got my ISY yesterday (it replaced a previous unit which was defective). All is fine now...except... I added the ISY Portal and linked it to my Alexa skill for ISY.Worked justfine.Alexa could turn on lights etc as asked. Then, out of nowhere she stopped,saying in response either "that device is not found in your devices" or "ISY is not on the UDI portal" I show in config as online. Could my later addition of the mobillinc module be causing this difficulty? Any other ideas? Thanks for any assistance.
