Just bumping this as I have essentially the same question. Can I remotely place the z wave/zigbee dongle using a USB extension cable? It seems intuitively okay. If yes, distance considerations/limitations?

Managed to get a folder (not iox) at the top the tree
glacier991 replied to glacier991's topic in IoX Support
Thanks all. I guess what I did as I was in the process of organizing devices into room folders was to accidentally rename the network folder with a room name. I removed the contents into a newer folder down the tree and renamed offending folder back to Network. dOH 🤕 -
Feeling kinda stupid. Some how I managed to create a folder to contain certain devices at the top of my device tree, and hence iox is below it. Attempts to restore iox as the top folder have not seemed to work. Eliminating that new misplaced folder eliminates everything connected to it. EEK! How can I correct this? Chris

In case I was not clear, no hub or extra controller necessary. -
Open Discussion: Themostats - what is working with EISY?
glacier991 replied to Kentinada's topic in eisy
I am like DBuss, I control my gas fireplace with a millivolt GoControl and my baseboard heaters througout the house with StelPro's. All Z-Wave. I find them to do exactly what I want and are easily progammable both with ISY and now eisy. The StelPro's are pricey now, but their support is excellent. I had a failure out of warranty and they sent me a new one.. I know there are a lof of millivolt controllers out there but in my view the StelPro's are the very best for 240V resistive heat baseboard applications. Built like tanks. (BTW I run 8 of them in my house - now on year 6). -
Ross, how do you find the PB3 link to work with Yolink sensors? Are you satisfied with it?
-
Thanks Ross. I am always looking at new things and will check them out. I have had occasional issues with the wireless tags, but in general have been satisfied..but the people who have never had a milkshake want one, right?
-
Well...color me surprised. I (again) rebooted my eisy and this time all the missing tags were there. Problem solved. I think there may be an order of reboot question, but whatever, it works!
-
I recently retired my old ISY after screwing up the Z wave dongle use. I am doing a fresh install with no migration. I used to handle my Wireless tags via a node server I built on a Raspberry pi (back in 2018) with good results. Now with with the PG3 plug in I am starting over. I went to the PG3 "store" and signed up for the wireless tag node server. I wasn't sure what to do since I had been using CAO's info on my old homebrew nodeserver, so I signed up for a 30 day trial. Everything went okay and the wireless tag node server shows up in PG3. None of my tags show up. I have made sure I set to monitor them, rebooted everything, uninstalled/ reinstalled the node server but get only two nodes..none of the tags. I went back and reread old strings from 2021 and 2022, but they did not shed any light on my issue under PG3. Anyone have a similar problem? Any obvious solutions? Thanks. Don't mean to be beating a dead horse here.

Migrating from ISY 994i Pro v.4.9.0 Z-Wave V4.55 300 series to EISY & Zmatter
glacier991 replied to PhanTomiZ's topic in eisy
I fully understand. In my case I set up my ISY about 5 years ago and that was part of a remodel of a new house. I got the essentials working and turned my attention elsewhere. New times and a small investment time wise in what I have. Decided to create an entirely new build. My system will continue to be an X-10 (pro where available) Insteon, z-wave and a possible new zigbee addition. I have an XTB-IIr I never installed and will be adding that now too. two sides of the same coin. -
Decommissioning an ISY 994i and PLM for a fresh install
glacier991 replied to glacier991's topic in eisy
VERY helpful Paul, thanks. I will be starting with a brand new latest model PLM. I have copied and printed most of the stuff I might need, including programs, but will be building from scratch. Not that many devices or programs. Really appreciate your assistance over the years! -
Well, after much research and thinking, I decided to not go through the gyrations of migrating (for a number of reasons) and just start from scratch. Seeking ideas of the best way to make everything UDI just forget my ISY and leave no trace of it (except for my UDI account info) before I begin on my new eisy installation. Any tips, suggestions, advice to pointing to things I should read prior? Thanks all.
-
Thanks Brian. First things first - I ordered my eisy, the matter z wave add on, and the USB serial cable to connect to my new (and supposedly "improved") Insteon PLM. So, I have done a bunch of reading up on bringing up the eisy, and I think it should be relatively straight forward. An awful lot of what I have read is applicable to a migration from an ISY994. I decided to just " take down and decommission" my ISY994i, and start over. My system was in its early stages and I have maybe 12 -15 programs, maybe 30 Z wave devices and another 15 or so Insteon and X-10 devices. It will not be a Herculean effort, and I think I will save some time avoiding headaches in the migration process. Any advice on the best way to decommission my old ISY993i ? I'd prefer it to disappear without a trace so to have a completely clean new install. once I have it working I will loop back and wire in and hook up the XTB and the transceiver.
-
I have a WGL, and never included transferring it over to the XTB when i planned the XTB, which I am just now installing! Great idea. Thank you!
-
Thanks. I could not imagine a problem but never hurts to seek experience. Appreciate the reply.

Btw, thanks for the replies guys!!!

My bad. Somehow I recalled the 2813s had an rj13. Clearly it does not. Sorry for the confusion. I am more and more thinking that I might just get the eisy and the z wave add on and just start from scratch on my build. One thing I would like to do is to put the eisy and zwave in a more central location in the house, and put the xtbrII near the circuit breakers, about 20 feet of cable run away. I have been using cat 6 in my house Ethernet wiring, but plan to use prebuilt shielded cat 8 for that run, for the main reason of shielding..it will cross through a very noisy environment. Anyone see problems with that long a run? Oh and, I will of course have to use UDI' interface cable and couple it into the cat 8 run. Anything I am not considering?

I am in the same boat, will follow ( and share) as this progresses. -
Oh, I should add that my system has a number of X-10 devices and I have an XTB-IIR I plan to install, and a spanking new Insteon2413S, which I note sports an RJ-45 Instead of the old RJ-13. It would be 25 Feet away from new Eisy. I did read the curated post. Very helpful in making my decision to upgrade, but now need to ask these questions. Thanks. Chris

My ISY has been quietly (and reliably) running in the background for a few years, aided by a Raspberry based Polyglot server I built. Meanwhile I have been doing other things ( like a major house remodel). Of late I upgraded my crappy internet ( all I could get until now) with a much better one. So, with my new internet, as I was running thru my apps, I decided to upgrade the ISY firmware, which was just a click in the my isy port. Bad idea. I killed my z-wave. But wait...might have been time to upgrade to Eisy. Read the curated post on that and decided to do that. A couple questions, I'd if I may. 1. I should get the z wave add on to service all my Z wave devices, yes? 2. My system backup can be the current system? Or do I need a pre upgrade one? (Have one). 3. Is this going to be a complete system rebuild? I can do that, just need to how much time I need to plan (and how much beer to buy.) Any general advice or links I should read in all this? Any help gratefully appreciated. Glacier991 aka Chris

Using a devices power draw to trigger another device

Good point. It is the corner of a planned island, which should make it more future proof. -

You have stayed my situation precisely. Since I am designing and installing semi custom cabinetry, I have the luxury to adjusting and or building to match what I want or need. I like the idea of louvres. Cost? $400 vs upwards of $1500 for my approach. I have more time and talent than money these days, so.... Thanks for your insightful reply. I really appreciate it... Now, for those 10 minutes...? -

Thanks all. A couple of notes. The wine cooler has no fans. These are fans I am adding, outside the refrigerator. They consume 7 watts each. This refrigerator has the condenser coils, fanless, located in the sides of the unit. My monitoring is real time. I am gratified to know there is nothing clearly wrong in my little programs. I will next try and determine the source for the off command. Thanks everyone!
