Geofence / 2 iPhones / I/O Linc Garage Door Control kit
I have used the Insteon 2450 along with geofencing to open my garage door for several years. I do not have it close the door when I leave. I do that myself from the car. The programs below work fine for me and/or my wife coming home. The garage door opens and the kitchen light turns on when pulling in the driveway. I use Home Assistant to handle the geofencing and it sends a rest command to my EISY to change state variable $s.J_ArrivedHome (or $s.T_ArrivedHome) to = 1 when the geofence zone is entered. I have another program that resets those ArrivedHome variables back to 0, 15 seconds after being triggered. My recommendation would be to cut out the part of your program that closes the door. ArriveOpenGarage - [ID 0020][Parent 0001] If $s.J_ArrivedHome is 1 Or $s.T_ArrivedHome is 1 Then Set 'Kitchen Light' On Run Program 'Garage_Open' (If) Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Comment: Open the garage and turn on Kitchen light whenever someone arrives. Garage_Open - [ID 003A][Parent 0001][Not Enabled] If 'garage door-Sensor ON=Closed' Status is On Then Set 'garage door-Relay' On Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') Comment: Trigger relay only if garage door is closed.

EISY solution for garage door openers
Im using the Insteon iolinc and have been for a few years now. When we moved a couple of years ago to a house that had MyQ, I took the iolinc from the old house, scrapped MyQ and installed the iolinc. Works very well with my KPL switches, geofence, Alexa, and Home Assistant. Haven't looked at the Yolink solution. Always wanting to learn more, I'll read up on that.

Problems Linking A New KPL
I’ll mention this just because its happened to me more than once. The device address can sometimes be misread. The letter O looks like a zero, etc. When I’ve keyed new devices in incorrectly like this I got the same error as you, “Cannot determine Insteon Engine”. Doesn’t hurt to double check the address. Good luck.

Geofence to trigger Blink cameras when leaving
No I have not used the node. Looks like that may be the way to go though.

Geofence to trigger Blink cameras when leaving
"program IF monitors the geofence variable and the THEN arms the blink cameras" Thanks, Yes I have geofencing set up and it works fine. Its the THEN arms the blink cameras part I'm asking about. The only hook I have is alarm_control_panel.blink_home in Home Assistant. I am trying to figure how to call that from EISY.

Geofence to trigger Blink cameras when leaving
Any answer to this? I’d like to do the same thing. I use geofencing already and have variables set up based on who is home so logically it should be easy to arm cameras based on these variables. I do not have the Blink node yet. Is doing something like this possible?

6 button KPL backlighting challenge
I just got my first 8 button KPL and noticed that setting the backlighting for one button does indeed affect all of the buttons. I'd rather it not behave that way.

Open Discussion: Themostats - what is working with EISY?
Currently using NEST thermostats and interfacing with Home Assistant. In our previous house we used Honeywell also with HA. I preferred the Honeywell because of the monthly usage reports. NEST sends monthly reports as well which are not as useful unless you care how many eco leaves you got.

Support Thread: IoX v5.8.0 (January 5, 2024)
I just updated my system remotely from 5.7.1 to 5.8.0. Went without a hitch. I only had to clear java cache and reinstall IoX after the update and reboot. Not sure what the update afforded me but I like to stay current.

Java issues
I think Insteon runs very easily with Home Assistant (Pi4). But I guess YAML and the cards do present a learning hurdle. HA is a great front end with the heavy lifting handled by EISY.

Package upgrade (5.7.1_7)
Thanks. I'm Version: 5.7.1_7. Good to know!

Package upgrade (5.7.1_7)
How do I know which version of 5.7.1 I am on? When I launch my admin console and got to Help->About, all I see is that I am running 5.7.1. There is no 5.7.1_7 or _5 or anything else. Is there another place to look?

Package upgrade (5.7.1_7)
Same here. It seems to want an update for: pkg tpm2-tools must be upgraded to 5.5_1

Network/server error logging into MyQ service
Was (sort of) happy with MyQ for a year or so but the recent persistent login/connection issues were too much for me to want to deal with. Installed the Insteon I/O Linc Garage Door Control over the weekend and all is well. Disconnected the MyQ unit which had come with the house we purchased last year and I won't consider using it again. The Insteon unit integrates well with my EISY and HomeAssistant system and is much speedier triggering events such as turning on outside floodlights when opening the garage door in the evening, and the integration with Alexa is smooth and instantaneous.

ISY994 to EISY Migration - mostly uneventful
I’d been putting this project off for a while but yesterday decided to proceed with the migration from ISY994i to EISY as well as installing a USB PLM. While not trivial, I did complete the migration in an hour or so. All in all it went….okay. There were a couple of confusing moments (causing me to initiate perhaps needless multiple reboots of EISY and my router) and the migration guide could probably use some editing but it got me through. I don’t use Z Wave but I do use Home Assistant as a front end which required deleting then reinstalling the ISY/IoX integration and for some reason I had to rename a few devices in HA and one Insteon lamp module had to be reset. The portal transfer was straight forward. I’m glad I remembered the free trial step. All seems to be running well and I have my old ISY994i and PLM as a back up should I ever need it. I don’t see any performance improvements but my ISY994i was working just fine anyway and while I do have a lot of programs it’s not a huge number. Alexa seemed unruffled and there was no need to rediscover devices. The EISY seems to run hot but I think I read that is normal. Thanks to all who posted their prior stories and solutions to problems. That was a big help to me to read before attempting this.

UI version mismatch
Just a thought but how are you assigning the static IP address to your new ISY994? Are you making the assignment in the router based on the MAC address – of the old ISY994? The new ISY994 will have a different MAC address so the old assignment will not work. Assuming this is what is happening, you will need to enter a new static IP assignment based on the new MAC address.

Any idea when eisy will be back in stock?
I inquired a few days ago (4/19) about EISY availability. Here's the prompt reply I got: Hi John, we should have them in 2 weeks. With Kind regards,

ISY994i & Ployglot V2 Questions
I have a couple of Kasa plugs and use Home Assistant to integrate them into my system. I have HA running on a Rpi4 and is a fairly simple solution to integrate Kasa and other protocols (Nest, Blink, SmartHQ, MyQ, etc) into a single interface.

Ambient Weather Needs to be Restarted After Power Failure
You say this has happened a few times before. You really should consider a UPS for your Polisy and avoid disruptions due to quick power off/power on occurrences.

Insteon HUB (2245) cloud servers shut down
I began using the Home Assistant app a few months ago and dropped Locative in favor of the geofencing built in to Home Assistant. I use the IOS version but there is an Android flavor as well.

2450 I/O Linc replacement?
I should have searched harder. Since posting I found a couple of ZWave options: ZWave garage door controller and perhaps the Zen17. If anyone has experience with these or can recommend something else that would be appreciated. Thanks.

2450 I/O Linc replacement?
Is there a good replacement for the Insteon 2450 IO Linc ? Perhaps another manufacturer makes something similar. I haven’t found it. I use it for garage door sensor and controller.

Port Forward / ISY Portal
I subscribe to the ISY portal but that’s not how I access it remotely. I have a reverse proxy set up on my router and access the ISY remotely via a URL on port 443 (which is open anyway).

Trying to setup Occupancy v2.0 (with UD Mobile)
I use geofencing and haven’t had too many issues with it over the years. I formerly used (ios) Locative to send REST commands but when I started using Home Assistant (HA) as my front end UI a couple of months ago, I took advantage of the trackers it has that tie into our cell phones. Setting up a geofence through HA was easy and we deleted Locative in favor of this approach. I use this for our system to determine if we’re home or not. If everyone is away, that triggers a set of (ISY) programs to turn lights on/off and set thermostats. When someone comes home, the garage door opens and a subset of lights come on depending on the time of day, and the thermostats reset. I realize there may be perceived security issues opening the garage door but I consider those to be low.
