Small (home) Office router replacement recommendations
slimypizza replied to Geddy's topic in Coffee Shop
A few years ago I picked up a 4 NIC, quad core, fanless micro computer and put pfSense on it. That’s my router. Love it. But then you need to add your own WAPs (I’m using Netgear Orbi’s at home) which may put you over budget. Works good though. We’re about to move to a bigger space and I’ll just add another Orbi to the mix for now. -
I wanted to report back. Thigs are working as they should now. I had one of the switches set as a responder and not controller. Things were working ok except for the lack of comm status to HA when switches manually pressed. Changing both to controller resolved the issue. Thanks for sticking with me on this. All good now.
-
The switches are both 2477S v.45. Yes, if I turn off either switch manually, the other switch changes its led status. In HA, the switches are referenced as switch.kitchen_light_1 and switch_kitchen_light_2. However, switch.kitchen_light is what I use in HA programming. Obviously not a huge deal but I, as many do, prefer my equipment to function as expected. Its encouraging that you have a similar setup and it works correctly. If you or anyone knows a solution I would appreciate it. HA syncs correctly with all the other 2477S and 2477D's I have in the house that aren't configured as a scene. Only the 3-way scene is giving me problems.
-
My issue isn’t with dimming. This is just a 3-way on/off scenario set as an ISY scene. This syncs fine with HA if I turn the lights on via ISY or through HA or through Alexa. But if I manually turn one of the switches on or off, the state doesn’t change in HA. That is, if I turn the light OFF via the manual wall switch, the status of the light in HA still shows ON. In HA the kitchen light scene is referenced as switch.kitchen_light

I have a 3 way kitchen light scene. If I ask Alexa to turn the light on/off, or if ISY turns it on/off then Home Assistant tracks it. But… if I manually turn the kitchen light on/off via one of the 2 wall switches, then Home Assistant doesn’t track the change and just stays in the previous state as viewed on the HA control screen. How can I get Home Assistant to track the state of the kitchen light scene regardless of how its toggled on/off?

I’ve had an Ambient Weather Station for a couple of years now. No issues. It works very well with Home Assistant (giving data directly from the weather station) and Alexa too (giving a verbal report when asked). There is an Ambient Weather Node server for the ISY994 but I haven’t needed to use that yet.

Trying to setup Occupancy v2.0 (with UD Mobile)
slimypizza replied to photogeek54's topic in UD Mobile
I use geofencing and haven’t had too many issues with it over the years. I formerly used (ios) Locative to send REST commands but when I started using Home Assistant (HA) as my front end UI a couple of months ago, I took advantage of the trackers it has that tie into our cell phones. Setting up a geofence through HA was easy and we deleted Locative in favor of this approach. I use this for our system to determine if we’re home or not. If everyone is away, that triggers a set of (ISY) programs to turn lights on/off and set thermostats. When someone comes home, the garage door opens and a subset of lights come on depending on the time of day, and the thermostats reset. I realize there may be perceived security issues opening the garage door but I consider those to be low. -

ISY Home Assistant Integration is slow & unreliable?
slimypizza replied to Venicenerd's topic in Home Assistant
I began using Home Assistant installed on a Raspberry Pi 4 this month. Works great. I’m using it primarily for the UI on my phone. Looks fantastic and functions well. I have also incorporated our Ambient Weather Station and Honeywell thermostats into the UI dashboard. My ISY994i still handles 99% of the automation functions. One thing I do is to use device.trackers to determine if me or my wife are not “home” and send REST commands to the ISY accordingly. That experiment is going well and if that continues it will take the place of the Locative app on our phones. -
Agreed. The single From-To program should work. I tend not to use scenes myself and I have From-To programs that control multiple devices without any problems.

I would try writing two programs: Prog1 If 3:30pm Then Set 'Nook Center Recepticle.1 On-O' On Set 'Nook Center Recepticle.2 On-O' On Prog2 If 9pm Then Set 'Nook Center Recepticle.1 On-O' Off Set 'Nook Center Recepticle.2 On-O' Off

Factory resetting the den switch, the switch that mysteriously was turning on 6 other lights, did the trick. Operation is back to normal. Thanks all.
-
This is really strange. After restoring all affected switches and confirming that the mystery scene/crosslink behavior was gone, it returned the next day. Same thing. Manually turning on the den light switch turns on 6 other lights. I did not factory reset the switches previously, just restore from the ISY admin console. Will try factory reset next.
-
Update: Issue seems to be resolved after Restoring all affected switches. At first I'd only restored then deleted/added the switch that was causing the strange results. Restoring all switches was necessary. I've no idea how this phantom situation came to be but glad to know that it is resolved. Thanks to all who read/posted.

I should mention I know for a fact this behavior was not the case all along. We seldom manually turn on the den light switch but I know that until some unknown point in time (today?) it did work as expected. We've had the switches for a couple of years. It is a good suggestion but this could not be due to leftover X10 or insteon links. This is really strange. OK so next I'm going to delete every affected light and then re-add. I'll report back if that made any difference.

Here’s a strange one. I just noticed that an insteon 2477D dimmer switch which we seldom use manually (so I don’t know how long this may have been happening), now controls 6 other insteon lights. WTH. I did not program this. Ever. The switch in question controls the light in the den fan. Pressing it on now turns on that light, the living room light, the dining room light, the front porch, the front flood, the back porch and the back flood. Pressing off turns all those lights off. This only happens when using the switch manually. Everything functions normally going through the admin console. Also, the other lights that come on do not show up in the ISY console as ON. I can turn them off via the console but they don’t register as being on even though they are. All I’ve done so far to troubleshoot is to delete the den light switch and re-add. That didn’t have any effect. Any ideas?

I fixed it. Strange. I had to go in to Alexa.amazon, Smart Home, Groups, Kitchen Group and then scroll down to "Scenes in this Group" and check "kitchen light". For some reason it was unchecked. Doing so and Saving, allowed me to once again turn the light on and off via verbal command. I've no idea why/how this was changed.

Looking for a little help. A simple scene to turn on/off the kitchen light no longer works when speaking to Alexa. It’s a scene consisting of a 3-way switch arrangement. Worked fine for a couple of years but now Alexa says “Kitchen doesn’t support that” when we say “Alexa turn on the kitchen light”. Same thing if trying to verbally turn it off. I can control the light just fine from the ISY admin console page or manually. I have removed and the added the scene/device from alexa.amazon.com. This happened out of the blue. No updates or additions to the network. Any ideas or advice on how to restore this functionality – the ability to control the kitchen light via spoken command? Thanks.

Update Portal firmware...now login problems
slimypizza replied to vmastros's topic in New user? Having trouble? Start here
This (flashing red light and error mode) has happened to me every time I've ventured to try out ver 5.x and then gone back to v4.x. My solution each time was to pull the memory card from my IYS994i, reformat it, and then reinsert and reinstall v4.x. It's a pain. -
Can you VPN into your home network from your office? If so you can access your ISY that way and your employer doesn’t have to support Java.

It said dimmable on the box. I made sure of that when I bought it. I agree a non-dimming bulb might cause issues but this wasn't the case. Like you said, it could have been just a bad bulb.
-
I’m using 2457 dimming lamp modules. It has to be the bulb. The problem moved from one lamp to the other when I swapped bulbs and then disappeared completely when I put a different bulb in.
-
I have two couch lamps (one on either side of the sofa). One of the LEDs had begun to flicker (yea these don’t last 20 years like they say) so I bought a 100w replacement bulb, Cree, soft light, dimmable. After replacing the bulb I gave Alexa commands to test turning the lamps on to check brightness, hue, etc. Looked good so I had Alexa turn the lamps off. Then, a few seconds later, the lamp with the new bulb came back on. That’s strange. I told Alexa to turn it off and then the same thing happened again. Alexa and I repeated this several times. Then I switched the bulb to the other lamp. Then that lamp started acting the same way, coming on a few seconds after turning it off. Seeing the odd behavior was isolated to the new bulb, I replaced that bulb with a 100w soft light, Philips LED bulb and all was well again. Has anyone heard of such behavior with a Cree bulb? FYI, the bulb I replaced was also a Cree but larger and had been in the lamp a couple of years. The new Cree was a 100w but an overall smaller bulb (both have an A19 base). I guess I’ll stick with Philips from now on. I'll be taking the Cree LED back to HD.

Insteon devices are unresponsive in Alexa app
slimypizza replied to slimypizza's topic in Amazon Echo
Thanks oberkc. I got it sorted out now thanks to you and to Brad at Universal Devices. In my rush to get things back to order here, I forgot the need to add a spoken for each device. Programs were intact but the devices were not named and so they were not detected by the Alexa app. Your comments and screen shot were much appreciated. -
Insteon devices are unresponsive in Alexa app
slimypizza replied to slimypizza's topic in Amazon Echo
I do not see a red X next to each device in Portal. In fact, while in Portal, the only place I see my devices listed is when I go to: Select Tool/Connectivity/Amazon Echo and then got to Device and then the My device drop down menu. This is where one would add Spokens and there are no red X’s. Does this indicate something wrong with my Portal setup? To further troubleshoot, I created a new profile for my Alexa app and enabled the ISY V3 skill. Then I had Alexa discover new devices but it found nothing. I’m reaching my wits end with this but cant help but feel this has something to do with my Portal account. I’m open to suggestions as to what to try next. The goal is to have the Alexa app discover the 30+ Insteon devices I have installed. They all worked fine prior to my router failing and taking down several other services. All is restored now except ISY/Alexa functionality. Alexa works with my wifi thermostats, Ambient Weather Station, and Sonos system but will not reload my Insteon devices.
