  1. Was hoping to continue my previous post, but its been closed. As stated, I got the 3-way to work fine, via 4 short programs. Why would creating a scene be better? (which I dont really know how to do). Wouldnt insteon's method be better, without getting the ISY involved at all? one less thing to screw up?
  2. forgot to hit the "save" button. Wrote 4 short programs to keep the 2 switched in sync.
  3. Finally needing to replace a Smarthome X10 switch, and happens to be a 3-way, with a master and slave. Its unfortunate, as physically, those are the best switches I've had. So replaced the main switch with an Insteon, and capped the red traveler. works just fine to control Kitchen. I have removed the X10 "slave" switch, capped that traveler, and installed another Insteon there, attaching the white and black wires. lets call this switch Kitchen 3-way. ISY 994 recognizes both these switches fine, and I can use ISY to control Kitchen. Was going to write a program.. If kitchen 3-way is switched ON, control Kitchen to ON... and a similar one for off. But it doesnt work. What am I doing wrong? Edit: solved
  4. The QNAP power cycle schedule only allows for daily / weekly events, best I can gather. Wouldn't this really simple routine work fine with much less complexity than other proposed solutions? It could power on my QNAP for 24 hours each quarter, allowing time for backup. I prefer a copy of files, rather than the synology proprietary backup system. Its really simple to duplicate those dates, so I could easily add 4 or 8 more, to cover a few years.
  5. Was just about to delete my post, as I too found that box! So now will my general logic work OK? It really seems by far the simplest approach: I could say IF time is from 12 am to 11 59 pm on 3/15/23 or 6/15/23 or 9/15/23 etc, turn ON, else turn OFF.... and I would list 8-12 quarterly dates, to cover the next 2-3 years?
  6. I got that screenshot from YOUR post on 12/9/2020!
  7. Both Firmware, and UI are 5.3.4. updated java, cleared cache, and now the ACTION button appears, but no calendar. My thought would be. if that calendar appears, and functions like I want, I could say IF dae = 3/15/23 or 6/15/23 or 9/15/23 etc, turn ON, else turn OFF.... and I would list 8-12 quarterly dates, to cover the next 2-3 years?
  8. I think I successfully upgraded to firmware v 5.3.4 from the above linked post there should be a screen like below, however, I dont have that "Action" button, nor do I have the calendar/date function at the end of each line. what am I doing wrong?
  9. It appears my task may be easier to accomplish with Firmware 5.X, but I am still on firmware 4.9. Best I can gather, there is no clear, concise changelog available for the version differences? also, it appears there is no simple way to upgrade firmware, and I run the risk of having to start over with all my programs? ugh
  10. OP here. Appreciate the input. Let me add a bit more context. My ISY programming, and network management skills are much more basic than 98% of the folks here. Terms like "node server" don't have much meaning to me. here's more of the "Big Picture"... I was hit with a ransomwear attack last summer, where the bulk of the files on my old QNAP 2-disk NAS were encrypted, and I came close to loosing lots of important things, until I managed to find an old hard drive in a closet to bail myself out. Because these were files I dont access regularly, I didnt even notice the encryption until 3 months after the attack. Trying to avoid that again, so bought a new Synology as my primary NAS, and was going to attempt to automate its backup about once a month (or 2?), via windows task manager, and FreeFileSync, to the QNAP. For added security, that QNAP was going to be mostly powered off. It is in a mode such that when power is restored (after power outage, etc), it boots back up. So, using a basic insteon module, have the QNAP turned on for, say, 24 hours on the 15th of every month (or every other month?), then turned off. I would assume is the QNAP is powered off, it will be nearly impossible to hack into. I would schedule the backups to happen during that 24 hour window of being powered on. thanks.
  11. I can see how to use the ISY to execute a program on certain days of the week, but I want to know if I can use it to turn an insteon module on for say 24 hours, once a month, or even every other month.
  12. My system is X-10 & Insteon... thinking of adding the Z-wave dongle to my ISY. Can I replace the Insteon 6 button controller with this, and use the ISY to "translate" the zen32 signal, to control a insteon or X10 switch?
  13. Edit - noticed in the File section, there is an Enable Internet (ISY) selection... which I try... but it fails. the Console itself is communicating with the cloud, because it prompts me to install the update...
  14. Am attempting to use the 30 day free ISY portal trial... I am trying to install it after being prompted in the console ... but I keep getting TCP Client DNS error... what am I doing wrong?
  15. I only have one wired router... but multiple "daisy chained" switches. I moved the ISY one switch closer, and now I've found it at the same IP address as always. Though, as I think about troubleshooting my network communication issues, it seems like neither the ethernet drop, nor AC outlet of the ISY should matter at all... but the AC outlet this PLM is plugged into is the issue... dealing with a network that about 50% remains X10... and am hesitant to invest more $$ into X10 or even insteon, as it appears now the future is Zwave.
  16. I was going to move my ISY to a different ethernet drop on the other side of the house, to attempt to address some signal issues. It appears by moving it, my ISY console can no longer find it. I dont want to have to do a factory reset or other major action. Can I assign it a static IP address? I thought I had done that years ago... maybe not. Is simply moving the ISY a major issue for a novice like myself?
  17. Should, for some reason, the UDI server be down, will the launch work to start the admin console? And if not, what is the "plan B" eluded to above?
  18. I've had my ISY for ~5 years, and mostly happy... apologies for this basic question. Is my system "stand alone" or does it require a Universal Devices server somewhere? I was thinking the Admn Console was software I installed... but maybe not?
  19. any idea when the Z-wave dongle will be back in stock, or why the price seems to have escalated from the upper $40s last time I looked, to $70?
  20. OK, I think my 2 programs are cancelling each other out. In addition from the light being on from Sunset to 11 PM, I also want it to be on from say 5 am to 30 minutes after sunrise... so if I use the logic suggested by Techman, the night program would turn the morning one off...
  21. I thought I had this working ... but at the moment, I can't even find the "between" option and also not clear how this is different from sunset to 11 pm turn light on, else turn off
  22. Unfortunately, I need help with what should be a simple program. Currently, I have one program that turns on my outside lights at sunset, and a separate program that turns them off at 11 pm. I could not seem to easily find a way to accomplish those two actions in a single program. Is that possible?
  23. you may be correct. I was assuming (wrongly?) that if I followed the Smarthome linking process, the 2 switches would function as a 3-way by directly communicating with each other. No hub or external controller needed, and that if I followed the preferred process using the ISY, Switch A would not directly communicate with switch B, but only via an intermediary - ie the ISY. But are you stating my assumption is wrong? If I link via the ISY, but then unplug the ISY, the 2 switches will still function like a normal 3-way?
  24. OK... so I will ignore the Smarthome instructions and try the ISY version ... can someone provide a link for the basic recommended physical wiring of the 3-way using my insteon switches?
  25. If I do direct linking, wont the ISY still see any activity of that switch, and also be able to control it? If for some reason the network is down, will the switches still work, or at least one of them?
