Inlinelinc as a controller

I just added an Inlinelinc to control my pool pump.

In the My Lighting tree, it looks different than the other modules, it's text is in blue. Why is that?

I also wanted to create a scene that would have the Inlincelinc and one of the buttons for a keypadlinc in it. What I wanted to do was to have the Inlinelinc as a controller, and one of the buttons from the keypadlinc as a responder.

Except that when I drop the Inlinelinc into the scene, it won't allow that. It starts right away as making the Inlinelinc as a responder.

I guess I could make a scene with just the keypad button in it, and then make a program that would turn the scene on and off based upon the Inlinelinc's status.

Is there something I am missing here, or is this all correct. I have an ISY-99IRPro.

clark21236,

You cannot make an InlineLinc a controller simply because it cannot control anything else except its own load. Are you trying to have an indicator for the pool pump (whether it's on or off)? If so, how are you going to turn on/off your InlineLinc in the first place? i.e. what controls your InlineLinc?

With kind regards,

Michel

Why would you need to make the inlinelinc a controller since it really isn't? Well it isn't a controller any more than an appliance module is (since it has that button on the side)...

I can use the status of any insteon device as part of a program... it doesn't need to be a controller.

If 'somedevice' is 'ON' ('off' whatever) and the time is after sunset do ....

Yes I am just trying to have an indicator that the pool pump is running. I have a schedule in the ISY that turns the pool pump on and off everyday.

My plan was to have the keypadlinc button as a responder so that it would only show the status of the pump. I don't want the kids playing with the button turning the pump on and off. I just wanted the keypad light to reflect the status.

My plan was to have the two work together through a scene instead of a program. It seemed to me that since you have to control a keypad light through a scene, that it was the logical way to go.

Since that didn't work, I just made a program that looked at the status of the inlinelinc and turned a scene on or off to update the light on the kepyadlinc.

Sounds like you just need to create a scene, with both the KPL secondary and InlineLinc as responders. Unless I'm misunderstanding, in your scenario there are no true controllers - the ISY is the only controller.

When the ISY turns on the scene, the KPL lights up and the InlineLinc goes on. When the ISY turns off the scene, both go off.

You could also create a program on the ISY that checks the status of the KPL secondary and turns it back off if someone accidentally presses it.

You know MikeB, that probably is a better way to do it.

I could do just as you say, put both devices in the scene. Then have the schedule turn the scene on and off.

That is one of the things that I did want to try and set up. In case the kids turn the button off. Using the scene could make that easier to accomplish. If the ISY sees that someone has turned off the keypad button, then it could rerun the scene to turn everything back on.

I think doing it that way would make my setup much simpler.
