lukeharrington Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Hello Im a long time lurker and have a question that im simply unable to figure out. I have an ISY-994i running an insteon network throughout my home. I have about 100 devices with numerous scenes and programs. I recently installed a 6 button Keypad linc and a toggle linc in a new room, created a scene, and made both devices controllers within the scene as ive done many times before with no issues. The scene responds properly in that it turns on and off from both devices as well as some remotes and control lincs and in the admin console. The problem is that the light that is controlled is much dimmer than before with regular switches. Ive checked that all the items in the scene are correct so that scene level and device level is at the highest. Ive also made sure I have 120 volts going to the light from the load wire attached to the toggle linc. The light seems to flicker some also. What am I missing? Thanks again

oberkc Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 It sure sounds as if you have not missed anything. My initial reaction was "on" levels set to something other than 100%, but I guess you checked that. Other thoughts/questions: a) does the light come on at apparent same level regardless of which device sent the control command? what does ISY admin panel show as level? Is it 100% c) have you tried another light bulb? d) voltage at fixture (same question as Brian H)? e) have you tried a fast-on at the new device? Any difference? f) factory reset of new device? g) faulty device?

lukeharrington Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Sorry. No. Not a fan linc. A seperate switchlinc controls fan. I'm using the toggle linc as the load controller. Admin console shows 100 percent. Replaced the bulbs I haven't checked voltage at the light. I'll do that this evening and report back. Thanks so much for the prompt replies
oberkc Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 You have done the things I can think of. Pending result of fixture voltage test, I am thinking bad switchlinc. When you measure voltage, I suggest doing so at output of switchlinc (across red and white wire) and doing so, if possible, under load. It is concieveable to me that the switchlinc is putting out 120VAC, but the voltage at the fixture is lower due to some wiring issue. It would be a shame to return a good device, only to later find out it is a wiring problem.

LeeG Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 lukeharrington An Insteon Dimmer chops off part of the AC Sine Wave even at 100% On. If there is anything in the fan light and/or circuit that are affected by this the load could be dimmer or flicker. It sounds like the fan light has some built in dimming capability or is dependent on a clean AC sine wave that is adversely affected by the operation of the Insteon Dimmer.
oberkc Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 And if you wanted to test for LeeGs theory, you could temporarily connect directly the load and line wires in the switch box (bypassing the switch). If the lights come on bright, then you have isolated your root cause to the switch (itself, pending voltage test) or LeeG's propose incompatibility.
lukeharrington Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 You guys are amazing I remembered that I had installed a remote controlled fan and light dimmer (cheap one from lowes) about two years ago. So all I need to do is simply remove it and my newly installed switches should work at full brightness? Separate question.. Where is the best source for info on how to do programs with the isy. I feel so dumb when working with them
