plars3n Posted August 5, 2013 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Hello All, I have installed mini remotes (RemoteLinc2) in a couple of ISY systems. They work great in scenes for controlling other INSTEON devices. But, I can't get them to control programs and variables. When I run a trace, at any level, I don't see any traffic generated by them. Scenes work, but nothing is shown on the ISY. I need to program these remotes to increment variables for ceiling fan and window shade control. Until the ISY sees the commands they generate, I'm stuck. I've tried restoring, deleting and then adding them again, holding them close to the dual-band PLM when pressing buttons, and adding the buttons to scenes and devices; everything short of animal sacrifice. Nothing works. Any ideas? Thank you. Link to comment

Nothing works. I can only think of the obvious things. Are you putting the remotelincs into linking mode? Are you choosing the option in the ISY admin panel to write the changes to the battery-powered devices? Have you checked the batteries? What other RF insteon devices do you have? Access points? LeeG Posted August 6, 2013 Share Posted August 6, 2013 If the previous ideas do not resolve suggest doing a Restore Modem (PLM). It sounds like the link records needed for the PLM to receive messages from the mini remote were not created. This can happen when the PLM link database becomes full. Often there are duplicate and out dated link records that can be compressed out with the Restore Modem (PLM). Link to comment
plars3n Posted August 11, 2013 Author Share Posted August 11, 2013 Ok, I did some testing. First, I did the PLM restore, no change. I then deleted and added the remotes, no change. I took the remotes back to my office and added them to a 99i running 3.3.10, they worked great. To summarize, I have two 994i - 4.0.5 installations that have this issue and a 99i - 3.3.10 that does not. I suspect a bug in the 994i and/or 4.0.5 version of firmware. LeeG Posted August 11, 2013 Share Posted August 11, 2013 I suggest running Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3. Delete the Mini Remote, add it back and post the event trace showing both the delete and add. It still sounds like the PLM does not have the responder link records needed for it to receive messages from the Mini Remote. Link to comment

Note the 15 on the end which indicates the add of the responder link record to the PLM did not work. LeeG Posted August 14, 2013 Share Posted August 14, 2013 One of three possibilities The PLM is full because of duplicates and out dated links Solution is a Restore Modem (PLM) The PLM is full of active valid links which requires Scene management to reduce the number of active valid link records. A Show PLM Links Table followed by a Count will show how many link records exist in the PLM. The Show processing is valid only when NO Insteon traffic reaches the PLM while the Show is running. Otherwise the displayed link records will be falsely high or low. This can be differentiated from the first possibility by doing a Restore Modem (PLM) and not having the link count drop below 992 which is the max count for a 2413 PLM. The Show PLM Links Table and Count should be done 3-4 times to insure the same Show and Count results. The PLM is defective and will not accept new link records. Link to comment

This level of support is just one of the reasons I insist that every system I sell, or work on, has an ISY. I ran several PLM Link tasks and received accurate matching counts. The number of links changed, although in the log I saw no other traffic. Run Number 1 370 2 288 3 192 4 115 5 48 I don't understand why the number of links would change. It must be time for me to re-read the manual. Extra Credit: I Deleted and Re-Installed a dimmer just to see how it worked with the PLM. Pruning down the log, these are the results. LeeG Posted August 16, 2013 Share Posted August 16, 2013 If no Insteon traffic was received during the Show PLM Links Table display the only explanation I have for the varying numbers is a defective PLM. However, it only takes a single message from a thermostat for example to affect the Show display. If you can trace a Show PLM Links Table and send the trace file to lwgwork@embarqmail.com I'll take at the trace. I'm inclined to think Insteon traffic is affecting the Show results. The PLM can be Factory Reset (NOT the ISY) which will physically reset the link database to zeros. Then a Restore Modem (PLM) to rebuild the link database. Run Help | About and verify the UI line indicates 4.0.5. Link to comment
